128 seems impossibly indiscriminate

1423

Banning 128 fans seems impossibly indiscriminate.  I don’t know how it was decided but it sounds like “those eight columns and sixteen rows” – painting with a very broad brush.  If so, the Club must meet with those in the affected area as soon as possible to allow fans who have had nothing whatsoever to do with vandalism or dangerous behaviour to continue to follow their club.  If such a letter arrived on my doorstep, I would want to face the Club urgently.  We’ve all been tarred by the pyros, banners and vandalism, but some are paying a higher price.

Unless there is specific evidence against an individual, the default expectation must be that bans will be lifted after interview.

Back in July, after the Club and the Green Brigade met to agree a way forward following some early season Uefa disciplinary problems, we wondered if either could control every last hanger-on hoping to ‘stick it to the man’.  Statements in recent days from both organisations show how impossible this has proven to be.

When I wrote my article on Saturday I didn’t expect the condemnation of the previous night’s incidents, from all sections of the support, to be so comprehensive.  We’ve seen elsewhere the damage procrastination and deflection can be.  There is no need to deflect.  We will not blame Chelsea fans. Nor is there need for ‘whataboutery’. Vandalising seats and throwing flares is now endemic in our game but Celtic fans are judged by higher standards. The Celtic support is characterised by by enormous generosity. Still.

Auldheid. I don’t doubt you are a trust worthy fella but in my opinion maybe to trusting I have found in business matters many thing are said and many people take different interpretations of what is said or meant.I can give an example in Celtics situation PL has said in many occasions in the past he would bring in a marquee signing can you tell me the last time it actually happened now im sure if you asked him or suggest he was being economical with the truth I am sure he would tell you that is not the case but that he is still looking for the marquee signing. I would also say I hope I am reading it all wrong and that you are right but somehow I don’t think I am. H.H.

It is a matter of judgement at the end of the day and that depends on information.

The issue here is did the SFA do a proper job of granting a UEFA licence in 2011 and do proper monitoring thereafter?

Both Celtic and requistitioners accepted that on the granting aspect the SFA were technically correct to grant at 31st March but there are questions to be answered about the monitoring.

The reason why this is still important is to see how a club that had no intention of paying their tax bill were able to represent themselves as if they were. Either the rules are not strong enough or somebody was less than diligent in applying them.

I think it is the latter, requiring a change in the former. This makes it an SFA/UEFA issue with Celtic indeed all clubs having a vested interest in closing any loopholes to stop it happening again.

And if it is in Celtic’s best interest, it’s in PLs interest. Hence the adjournment.

  10. See that a few wanting to have a pop at PL and the board in acting with perceived undue haste in blaming and suspending some members of the support for events which unfolded at Motherwell

You have to appreciate that Celtic will be in possession and have information on the identities of a fair number of persons in the vicinity of the damage and no doubt they will be aware of wether these persons are affiliated to any group by association or by membership

As most travelling Celtic supporters who attend away games on a regular basis will tell you the majority of stewards stewarding the Celtic away support are the self same ones who steward the match days at Celtic Park and are well aware of the identities of members of particular groups

    I hope you are right.

So does that mean all 128 suspended are absolutely 100% guilty?

Long time lurker. Hobbies included being overly suspicious of the PLCs motives and laughing at alleged Celtic supporters who continually spout the same nonsense that is dished out on a daily basis by the SMSM and the Zombie hoards. The premise being ‘if it quacks like a Hun then it is a Hun’ albeit deluded enough to believe it is in fact a Celtic supporter.

I doubt very much that 128 persons are 100% guilty but I imagine that a fair few of them were well aware of the damage being caused and the persons responsible and had ample opportunity to move away to another part of the stand thus disassociating themselves from the real culprits

  21. Lustig heading for an op after the game again’st Barcelona it seems, that’s a real shame in my opinion as he was up there for PoTY.
