128 seems impossibly indiscriminate

1423

Banning 128 fans seems impossibly indiscriminate.  I don’t know how it was decided but it sounds like “those eight columns and sixteen rows” – painting with a very broad brush.  If so, the Club must meet with those in the affected area as soon as possible to allow fans who have had nothing whatsoever to do with vandalism or dangerous behaviour to continue to follow their club.  If such a letter arrived on my doorstep, I would want to face the Club urgently.  We’ve all been tarred by the pyros, banners and vandalism, but some are paying a higher price.

Unless there is specific evidence against an individual, the default expectation must be that bans will be lifted after interview.

Back in July, after the Club and the Green Brigade met to agree a way forward following some early season Uefa disciplinary problems, we wondered if either could control every last hanger-on hoping to ‘stick it to the man’.  Statements in recent days from both organisations show how impossible this has proven to be.

When I wrote my article on Saturday I didn’t expect the condemnation of the previous night’s incidents, from all sections of the support, to be so comprehensive.  We’ve seen elsewhere the damage procrastination and deflection can be.  There is no need to deflect.  We will not blame Chelsea fans. Nor is there need for ‘whataboutery’. Vandalising seats and throwing flares is now endemic in our game but Celtic fans are judged by higher standards. The Celtic support is characterised by by enormous generosity. Still.

Missed this. What went on here, can you point me in the right direction?

A slightly effeminate guy went into Camerons and said:

“Can I have a mince round?”

:Ach, please yerself. ” said the butcher. ” We`re no` very busy anyway.” 0:-)

  4. Jungle jim not many these days mate….ashamed to say.

Never missed one home or away for years when I lived in Glasgow.

Been in Anfield watching the Pool more than Paradise watching the Hoops in last 15 years…but a Celtic fan first and always.

  5. I spent the first 10 years of my life over here in construction. As the building trade at home is/was predominately Irish and fae Donegal well over here it was Italian and predominately Calabrese.

I was pretty much on my own although there were Portuguese (Azores) and Germans, who incidentally called the Italians Vops.

The Wop word was commonly used especially by the younger Canadian/Italian who referred to the older ones as that. They in turn were called Wopahos. Neither was viewed as an insult

I myself used this term years ago on the Big Lhist and like TD was jumped upon, I also tried to explain myself and the most vociferous attacker stated that if he used that term where he lived then he would have to watch himself. He lived in Hamilton, Ontario which contains many of the Italian Diaspora. At that I thought “you’re talking a lot of Raphael.

Once I left that field and went into Engineering I rarely heard the term or used it myself but it was common in the 70/80s.

Incidentally when we beat Milan at the old Exhibition Stadium in TO the ex-pats where singing “I’m no a Tally I’m a Tim”.

Anyway as George of the Jungle says “off oot”.

My reason for asking was that I would bring you a bridie if you manage to make it up to a game some time. The offer remains open.

  8. You know how some people go mad about podium placing? Well I seem to get an inordinate amount of new page podiums. Of course, it will now stop happening.

Yep hankray, there are 5 boys in the Spillane family. Their father died at a young age leaving the 5 weans eldest being about 6. Their Mother was a nurse and had to go back to work to keep things going. My Mam used to get them their dinners etc. Other neighbours pitched in as well, that was the way it was then. Can remember well the incessant noise as John started out on his music career. He has carved out a bit of a niche for himself now, and is doing very well. A grand family, his Mother who only died a couple of years ago originally from West Cork.

Will gladly bring you a proper Cornish Pastie in exchange whenever I next get up home.

Good to see you back on here. It is NEVER a good idea for the good guys to stop posting. A better way is to treat ill-informed posters as you would the MSSM …..ignore them.

21 year old Dutch student out with his girlfriend in Milan . Group of neds mistakenly assumed he was a Ajax supporter and attacked him . The intervention of a Moroccan kebab shop owner stopped him from getting a serious beating.

Jungle Jim, I’m not really back. Just that hankray posted a video of my old next door neighbour, and I really enjoyed it and felt obliged to post and thank him. I’m slinking back into oblivion now, HH

  15. With all the corruption and cheating down the years against our club ,now being proved through the Charlotte leaks, it’s unbelievable how quiet the board has been with barely a statement apart from when the Green Brigade have been at fault.

Looking at the deidco side of things , when the Huns have a problem with their bored their various associations always manage to get their point across and get help from the media and get face to face meetings with the people who matter.

Seems to me that apart from canvassing enough votes for a resolution to the AGM then there is no avenue to air our frustrations to our custodians.

Or am I being nieve here. Are the CSA and the trust in regular contact with John Paul? Or any other supporter group?

Maybe our board are complicit, compliant with all the skulduggery going on …guess we will all find out when we play the tribute act for the first time.HH

  17. Corkcelt………. You could say that the Spillanes and yourselves were almost one family.

John is a fine musician and songwriter and all that “noise” and practice has paid off big time.

    Nice story.

  18. I just love Celtic supporters !

We are playing the fabulous Barcelona tonight and some of us are talking bridies and pasties!!

I can`t decide if I believe we will gain a surprise victory tonight or Barca will run riot.

No they don’t. The Zombies have been trying to arrange a meeting with their mysterious board for months ahead of the forthcoming bun flight on 19 December.

All the greeting from Ramsey, Crawford, Finlay and Cochrane through the media has not helped them one wee bit.

  23. Googybhoy…

I have a meeting in Ardwick tomorrow.

Would you be jealous if I went via Ancoats and bought half a dozen meat and potato pies?

I agree with you on some points, that its not used by some companies correctly but with some it is, dont take this wrong way please! but are you middle aged around 40-50?

I work now for a major player and trust me I am audited regularly and also trust me they do not spare expense when it comes to safety, I am a mere site manager and I can get what I want no questions asked if its for the safety of the operatives.

Things have changed in the last 10 years!
