Banning 128 fans seems impossibly indiscriminate. I don’t know how it was decided but it sounds like “those eight columns and sixteen rows” – painting with a very broad brush. If so, the Club must meet with those in the affected area as soon as possible to allow fans who have had nothing whatsoever to do with vandalism or dangerous behaviour to continue to follow their club. If such a letter arrived on my doorstep, I would want to face the Club urgently. We’ve all been tarred by the pyros, banners and vandalism, but some are paying a higher price.
Unless there is specific evidence against an individual, the default expectation must be that bans will be lifted after interview.
Back in July, after the Club and the Green Brigade met to agree a way forward following some early season Uefa disciplinary problems, we wondered if either could control every last hanger-on hoping to ‘stick it to the man’. Statements in recent days from both organisations show how impossible this has proven to be.
When I wrote my article on Saturday I didn’t expect the condemnation of the previous night’s incidents, from all sections of the support, to be so comprehensive. We’ve seen elsewhere the damage procrastination and deflection can be. There is no need to deflect. We will not blame Chelsea fans. Nor is there need for ‘whataboutery’. Vandalising seats and throwing flares is now endemic in our game but Celtic fans are judged by higher standards. The Celtic support is characterised by by enormous generosity. Still.

Would you consider there’s a cut off age for wearing Ugg Boots?
Man in forties Gordon St CSC
I thought sex rather than age was the defining factor? You mean wear them impractical Big Slippers?
4-2-3-1 presumably
Sorry if this has been discussed earlier – where is the game being shown tonight?
Unusual team selection!
From the next edition of CQN Magazine….
7 January 1978
Rangers 3 Celtic 1
…this match was marred by two minutes of mayhem caused by dreadful refereeing by John Gordon. Celtic were trailing by a goal to nil and pressing hard for an equaliser when Joe Craig, Celtic’s centre forward, was pushed in the back by Colin Jackson as he tried to head the ball in at the far post. Jim Reynolds in the Glasgow Herald stated that it looked a clear penalty but the referee said ‘no’ and was besieged by irate Celtic players. While the protests were going on, Rangers took a quick goal-kick, and with only Frank Munro and Peter Latchford against a five man attack, John Greig finished off the move by tapping the ball into the net to make it 2-0. The Celtic fans came over the wall and the players refused to restart the game. Celtic’s trainer Neilly Mochan went into the centre circle to prompt the players to resume.”
PS Celtic fans came over the wall! In 1978 – Can’t blame the Green Brigade! Who can tell me about being at this game?
Burghbhoy….
Might be better with the red sauce option on that mate.

Just heard your reporter, live from the Nou Camp, while previewing the Barcelona – Celtic tie, use the term “violence” to describe the behaviour of some Celtic supporters at Fir Park last Friday night.
That is an unwarranted misrepresentation of what actually happened, and an immediate retraction, and apology, is required.
Winning Captains….
Posted the link to the game a couple of pages ago.
Massive scrap outside but was at the young teenager attitude of loving throwing punches at Huns that day.
The day my hatred for Rangers reached great heights…..then grew exponentially since.
No need now…..they’re deed.
Just been mentioned on radio that to complete against Barca tonight, the Celtic team “will need legs”.
Soccer 101.
Bada bing. Doc.
Thanks.
Lenny going for pace tonight the slow coaches on the bench.Interesting.
SSN: ‘Celtic guaranteed to finish bottom of the group’
Just in case anyone missed this fact on any of the 10 previous occasions it was mentioned in the last two hours.
It’s all about the Ramsdens Cup for some people.
Ryecatcher
Yer prob. Right, and he prob. Is, but like the rest he toes the party line.
I am sure PL will be on the phone to SSN as we speak,to suspend them until further notice.
Interesting to see how this team lines up, 4-2-3-1 likely?
Pacey looking, Matthews left back or right Mid?
Don’t think anyone would have predicted it, I certainly didn’t think be this line up.
winning captains
I remember a similar refereeing punty-up for the dead club during a more recent (ish) game at Celtic park. We’d just scored and whilst the Celtic players were still celebrating in the Rangers’ half they were allowed to restart the game. I remember Danny McGrain thwarting that cheating episode with a sliding clearance.
How can Biton play – did he not get a 3 match ban as well?
ryecatcher
Thanks will look back now. Don’t suppose you fancy writing me up some of your recollections of that match from a supporters point of view? My email is david@CQNMagazine.com – if you could it would add to the feature enormously. Would need it by end of month.

Go for it tonight Celtic- play a forward
I see the MSM are growing arms and legs on the chairs story- by next week we will have been responsible for the dobbers Manchester riot
The Celtic need to wisen-up and stop giving them sound-bites over this. For some reason they seem to be assisting in the crucifixion of our entire support.
PetetheBeat, no it was just a one match, a wayward tackle, not violent conduct.
He’s only been suspended pending investigation – not banned!
;-)
Wow! Some team, I could have sat here all month and never picked that one, ah well if that’s it here we go, mon the hoops.
I thought Biton got two games?
Googybhoy…..
Night out in Sam’s Chop House (Jewish Quarter) on Friday night.
Any good from you or your mates’ experience?
I really like Fisher.

Anyone participating in this and hoping to get anywhere should point out there have been no charges of ‘violence’ brought against anyone over the events at Fir Park.
Make sure you point out Sky Sports should not be making judgements when no one has been charged, and that you were led to believe the company ran courses on the correct way of dealing with these kind of stories.
I am led to believe complainants are likely to get more success using this approach.
The 78 game at Ibrox…I was there but seem to remember the Celtic players threatening to leave the field. This is one of the biggest examples of cheating I’ve ever witnessed but as was JPR Gordon in charge its no surprise.
Even my Oldco mates admitted later that night that they were embarrassed.
3-5-3 ?
Winning Captains….Will send you something before Xmas….That game was a watershed moment for lots of Celtic away fans who decided not to run and fight back in Helen Street that day.
