A few players look close to burn out

154

At the risk of hyperbole, I don’t think I have seen a Celtic team as dead on its feet as the one that limped through the final minutes of the cup final on Sunday.  While I would like to finish the Europa League group stage undefeated, Thursday’s game in Cluj is just not worth the muscle fibre.  We have earned the luxury to treat this game as a training match; do so.

Callum McGregor, James Forrest and Scott Brown all need a midweek break.  Odsonne Edouard, Mohamed Elyounoussi, Leigh Griffiths and Mikey Johnston require various levels of action to get them back to full fitness.  Players burn out and there are a few who look close to this position.

We have a huge game at home to Hibs on Sunday and a trip to Tynecastle one week tomorrow, facing Hearts under new management.  I know the game on the 29th feels like the next big date, but win the games between now and that game will take care of itself.

Tom Rogic signed shirt raffle for Celtic FC Foundation

The Celtic squad wore a special shirt for last month’s league game against Motherwell, bearing the Celtic FC Foundation Christmas Appeal logo instead of the normal Dafabet logo on the front, and the words “Christmas Appeal” on the back, instead of the Magners logo.

Tom Rogic’s signed shirt from that day is available for raffle.  Each donation of £10 or more will be entered into a draw, which will take place on Friday 13 December.  The shirt will be posted on Monday 16th (or available for collection at the Hibs game on Sunday 15th).

The Celtic FC Foundation do incredible work throughout the world all year round, but their work with those most in need in the winter months, and for children and families coping with chronic poverty, can give warmth, nourishment, self-respect and  human compassion that some people struggle to find.  All donations go straight to the Foundation.

This is why Celtic exists.  You can enter here at JustGiving.  Good luck and thank you!!

  1. Ajax, sitting on a cash pile of €87m at the end of last season and with a profit in the transfer market this summer of €67m scrape through the qualifiers and finish third in a very average group.

At no point in history has Rangers ever been demoted, put down to a lower division or suffered any similar form of punishment in Scottish Football.

There has been no punishment for financial irregularity, no expulsion from the league or any other form of chastisement.

Rangers Football Club, the one and only organisation/entity based at Ibrox, voluntarily placed themselves into Administration due to the overwhelming debts, particularly due to their unpaid tax debt and having failed to agree a CVA were subsequently placed into Liquidation.

This Liquidation is still in process as the recent announcement from BDO confirms.

Having been placed into Liquidation, Rangers Football Club ceased to operate. They still exist but only until BDO completes their activities.

Every time you refer to the club currently operating at Ibrox as having suffered demotion or any other similar term, I recommend you ask the SFA to provide you with official documentation recording the official decision by the SFA to apply this punishment to the club.

I think you will find that no such document exists because no such action was ever taken.

Every time you refer to such a demotion, you immediately undermine your entire report whatever it may be.

If you cannot be trusted to report such stories accurately, your ability to report any story is seriously questioned.

Please check your facts and report them accurately.

If you or your directors/editors cannot bear the thought of reporting the truth, I suggest you simply say nothing.

Gordon Smith says “Rangers have lost the first trophy of the season, but if they make the last 32 it will be progress on last season.”

You can only lose something that you originally own, and they’ve won nothing to lose since their inception in 2012………………………

Amazon continues to invest in Sports rights to boost Prime membership – they had already had some recent success winning some streaming rights for Premier League games in the UK, now they have added some Champions League games in Germany. In the UK, Amazon said the £90m they spent for 3 years of 20 games streamed online, led to record numbers of sign-ups to Prime, (costs £80/year) for the first batch of 10 games shown last week. This brings competition to BT and Sky in the UK. In Germany, Amazon Prime Video will show ‘first-pick’ matches on Tuesday evenings of each game-week from the 2021-2022 season. The deal will cover a total of 16 games. The Champions League rights are currently held by Sky Deutschland in Germany, which sub-licenses a package to sports streaming platform DAZN.

Good morning CQN from the Central Highlands where daylight has just dawned and it is currently SNOWING heavily. The mercury is just limboing under zero c.

Spent most of yesterday reading the Internet, I think I nearly finished it.

Thinking about Football during my lifetime I have arrived at the conclusion that it wasn’t really Rangers that I despised, rather it was their followers. Since those same followers now follow Sevco, I enjoy their misery surrounding their interaction with us, in just the same way that I did when they followed Rangers. Whether they are deluding themselves that Sevco is Rangers, or whether they genuinely believe that Sevco is Rangers, matters not a jot, they are the same flies, and it may make me a bad person, but I enjoy their torment and misery, I truly do.

    Off to read more.

Bankie – I’m actually quite happy the SMSM has been told to run with this story.

Whilst they think it perpetuates the ‘hard done by’ narrative and deflects from Sunday’s failure, it reminds everyone else:

    1. Rangers were/are in the process of being liquidated and no longer exist;

    2. The ‘same club’ narrative is a joke;

    3. The SMSM are nothing but useful idiots.

It’s no bad thing that everyone is remided of the facts once in while.

  14. Memo to those who suffered on Sunday December 8 2019:

Former Scottish FA chief executive Gordon Smith says Celtic’s League Cup final winner over Rangers on Sunday would have been ruled out for offside had he been successful in his attempts to introduce VAR as a member of UEFA and FIFA’s influential football committees a decade ago.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha…

  16. Formerly GM………….

All good points I’d agree with. My position on this is vague, sketchy and subject to change……… especially following a win or defeat to the ideals of Celtica.

    :)

The thing for me is that facts rarely change anyone’s minds – we have all the facts available, there was even front page headlines delivering the truth o’ the matter…..and yet we now have to suffer repeated falsehoods throughout the media footprint.

Boaby Ewing stepped oooot the shower singin’ The Sash – bold as brass.

The mouth-breathers of the hun support are very well lead by robust, effective media sleekits. “The Big Hooose “remains open…..apparently………”The rainjurz wull ne’er die”……..apparently…..and even the might of Tim-infested HMRC has been forced to knock 5 mullyin off the tax bill………

The facts say one thing but the perception / reality is….different.

What scoddland’s fitba’ society needs is a Truth and Reconciliation process akin to the one in Sith efrika………………and it needs the culprits properly charged, convicted and punished for what they did.

    There ye go, sortit!

  17. Good morning from a bright but cold North Staffordshire.

Have had bad news that my mate Tony from Hartlepool has been diagnosed with a secondary tumour.

Can those inclined remember him in your prayers.

  18. Something that just occurred to me. Our goal on Sunday is now always going to be referred to as offside and if VAR was available it wouldn’t have counted. Does anyone know if the technology used by TV on Sunday is the same as that which VAR uses ? If so , fine , if not, then the argument is moot.

  19. In ither news……………

Pressure may indeed be only for tyres…………………….

but in scoddland it clearly disnae apply to the skouse ned either!

    Shameless.

IMHO The mentality of the hun supporter derives overwhelmingly from the ” culcher ” of the club.

A protestant club for a protestant people was the mantra.

Aren`t permitted to say that today , but that mentality persists.

There are many Rangers supporters I have known to be thoroughly decent people .

    Just misguided .

    :-)

Our Club mentality , by contrast , was ” open to all ” .

Even to Royalist Tories like me .
