A week for leaks

1020

This seems to be a week for leaks.  I hear one club recently refunded two investors to the tune of £500k each.  Don’t worry, it wasn’t Celtic, and I hear the club involved are one of the most financially secure in Britain.  I also hear the national broadcaster rejected a former presenter’s request to return to the fold.

Still nothing from the SFA, who were responsible for issuing associate membership to Newco Rangers, on the leak from the club’s board meeting that the Association expressed alarm that earlier information had leaked from chairman, Malcolm Murray.  Mr Murray recently instigated an investigation into the relationship between Craig Whyte and Charles Green, the nature of which could invalidate Newco’s associate membership.

Far from being alarmed at leaks, the SFA should be keen to see full disclosure.  Reports suggesting otherwise are alarming.  I am sure the SFA president has already demanded openness and clarity…….  Relax, standards of corporate governance at the SFA are as high as ever.

I am also sure the leak from Newco was not a shot across the SFA’s bows, providing a glimpse into what looks like some murky conversations which people at the Association could have much to lose from being exposed.

    Daly is 30.

He isn’t that good a player.

He is a decent player and no more.

    He won’t get any better.

He won’t have a resale value.

He comes into the same category as Sandaza, Kyle, Shiels and Black.

He’s from Ireland and we know how the lunatic fringe of the Sevco support feel about that.

    What’s not to like?

Italian media claiming that Antonio Conte will decide if he is staying at Juve within the next 2 days..

It is claimed he’ll walk unless the Juve suits come up with the money to enable Juve to compete with the big boys in the Champions League . It is also claimed that Conte wants control over who Juve buy and sell . He is said to be very unhappy that the suits landed him with the likes of Bendtner and Anelka .

Some have him at PSG or Monaco . Some have him at Manchester City or Chelsea .

    We’ll see.

  13. Because we have always been an all inclusive Club, a Jon Daly to Sevco equivalent is difficult but it has me wondering what a player`s background would need to be before a large section of our fans would find him difficult to accept him.

  14. Let’s be altruistic for a moment.

Most of us have spent our lives condemning Them for their sectarian, bigoted policies.

It is the biggest stick we have to beat them with.

Therefore, if the Daly signing comes off, we should welcome it as a small step in their ” cleansing” and give them credit………….

Na, it doesn’t work for me either. They’ll have to die again.

  18. hamiltontim,

In many clubs, it is not the manager who decides.

In fact, the name ” manager” is not the job title.

    It is ” coach”.

Coaches come and go, perhaps usually after two or three years.

Clubs want continuity of style and whenever possible, personnel.

That’s where the director of football comes in.

In theory, if a manager decides which players he wants for his team, then when he leaves, the next guy will want his own payers.

This leads to staff turnover and eats into funds.

Far better to have a competent DoF, who sources players to fit the club’s style and have a coach with a similar philosophy to coach them.

Continuity of style, starting with youth teams, through to the first team.

    Easy.
