For me most of the singing on Saturday at Aberdeen was fairly good natured and of the wind up variety. Most of the energy right at the security segregation where I was stood was banter and not malicious from what I saw. It was only on here reading folk who were not there that it seemed to get very aggravated. D

Highlight for me, aside from the great goal and win, was joining in with the aberdeen fans singing walker was a wxxnker.

  2. Unfortunately I had to cancel heading to Germany this week as I have a meeting in London.

Can anyone suggest best London venue to watch celtic game as Man C and Arsenal will surely be the main games on in most bars ?

My lovely sister Jean, how much I miss her….

St marys first then St Pats…

BTW I was with her as we laughed at the memory of laughter of memories in Maple Ridge in Vancouver and she said “if you ever meet a guy called TOSB, remind himI lent him a fiver”

Burnley78. I posted yesterday that Walker seems to have a permanent Scoul on his coupon.

    Nicholas is a proper Charlie.

I can’t understand the reluctance of each to give us credit when it’s due.

Thank you. I enjoy your posts too as I do the posts of all of the Bhoys from Coatbridge. I’m very proud to have been born and brought up in a town with so many Celtic supporters. I have many, many fond memories of the Brig.

Tony Donnelly, however, is a buffoon. He is the Pol Pot of CQN. He opposes any questioning of the Board whether it is justified or not. He derides those who would aspire to, or who have gone on to further education. Tims must not better themselves, they must not aspire to rise higher, to rise above their station in life. They must be subservient, forelock tugging, obsequious crawlers who know our place in the scheme of things and accept, without questioning what the Celtic PLC want us to believe. If it was down to the Tony Donnelly 67’s view of the world, Celtic supporters would not have opposed the bungling Board of the Kelly’s and White’s and we would simply not exist today.

    Good Evening All.

First of all a big THANKYOU to ACGR as his extra special dram has raised a magnificent £162.50 for the Celtic Charity Foundation Sleepout.

The winning bid came from a chap in Wemys Bay whose name I will withhold just in case he prefers that.

    Cheers to both Gentlemen.

Now for something completely different as they say:

It is some time since I posted a new Strandsky Story but I have been working on a few for quite some time.

Having had a knee operation earlier this week, I have used the time to finish off a rather long piece — 20,000 words long to be precise.

It concerns a story that I first heard of many years ago but which is actually a current and real time story as it may well have some legs in it yet.

It features the exploits of one of the most remarkable men I have ever heard of and is mainly situated in the city of Rome yet it is also a story of Ireland, Britain and many other places.

I know some people like to while away the nightshift with one of these so grab a coffee, take a 40 minute break and go back in time to the events of yesteryear and specifically remember 30th October 1963!

This is Big Hugh, God’s One Iron, the Via Rasella and the Man in a Suitcase!

    https://broganrogantrevinoandhogan.wordpress.com/2016/10/30/big-hugh-gods-one-iron-the-via-rasella-and-the-man-in-a-suitcase

And if you enjoy it then follow the suggestion at the end.

Oh, and Bobby Grant if you are looking in I haven’t forgotten the story about when Bonnie Prince Charlie and Jimmy Hagan came to town. That might just feature next or next but one!

Why did all of the beautiful girls go St. Mary’s before they came to St. Pat’s. I can remember a couple of them:-)) My own dear wife was a St. Mary’s gal – and a cracker she is too. ☘️:/))

Franny B, I was on Celtic news now earlier and made the mistake of going on click bait site HITC, it was something Ryan McGowan put on twitter about Tom.

As I said in an earlier post, I may have taken the content out of context but he suggested Tom should leave us.

  9. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Burnley78, I hope A Walker takes note of both sets of fans opinion of him.

  10. Oh my God, Matt. I am so sorry to hear that. I re read your post and it did occur to me that that was a possibility. I didn’t know her well but knew who she was, if you know what I mean. She was a beautiful girl and one of my friends will be very sad to hear of her passing as he had a massive crush on her.

had said in a letter home to his brother that he would

“rather die of starvation and suffer 10,000 deaths than help that dirty foreign crew to keep my countrymen in subjection”.

  12. Burnley

As I’ve said I was the last Celtic supporter in my row before the segregation point, row S. The discourse between both sets of fans was far from banter, certainly from them. Mostly, we were winding them up but their response was vitriolic and menacing.

  13. One of the best thing about Coatbridge is the rich architectural vocabulary. You’ve got :

    – The Long Row

    – The Slap-up

    and (my favourite)

    – The Building

    Powerful and evocative language…

    :-)))

Back again Bhoys update Matt just song and I can’t believe he was quite good he still will not tell me about Dingwall. .HH

  15. Headline from the Herald.

(Braveheart Wallace ready to accept leading role against England at Wembley.)

I could not give two hoots about the Scottish national team but if they are pinning their hopes on the grass they are in trouble.

In the two games we have played the huns this season he has been hopeless and a huge contributor to our victories..

Even the huns forums have been demanding him being dropped..

Hope the mssm get their wish so the clown can embarrass himself in front of a huge tv audience.

Sterling for a hat trick maybe a sure bet.

There is a wee poem lurking in the scattered pages that litter my floor.

It was written for wan person…me!

I dont care if anyone ever finds it….Jean knows what it says.

  17. So did I. The Slattery family, cousins to famed Coatbridge actor and Celtic supporter, Ian Bannen. I can attest to the fact that they lived 80 stairs up. I was a pal of another cousin of theirs and we visited once or twice.

  19. The old Westerns were always on at the Saturday morning minors. I remember watching them at the Western, on Dumbarton Road, in Partick, the Kelvin on Argyle Street across the street from Barney Flanagan’s ‘The Berkeley”. I also saw them at the ABC on Byres Road.

I also remember that our first televisions at home were from either D E R or Radio Rentals.

    Paddy’s Castle in Cuparhead

    and

The Widden Brig between Bank St. and Summerlee. I’m sure there are some more. :-))

    Classics mate. :-)))))

When I was at school, our Geography teacher was talking about The Fountain and asked one of my fellow pupils if he knew where it was.

    “No, Sir” he replied.

“How long have you lived in Coatbridge, son? You must know where The Fountain is?” said the teacher

“No really Sir – they keep on moving it…”

Cue – 2 of the belt!

    Happy days! LOL! :-)))

I’m in Amsterdam at the moment with my wife.

We’re going down to the game on Tuesday. I’m thinking of happy times and happy memories of the Coatbridge I grew up in and lived in until I was 23 and the people I knew and grew up with. Some of them I wish I had been braved enough to have been on speaking terms with at the time.

I enjoy your posts Matt. Especially your ‘on tour’ posts. The high spots of Dingwall made me laugh out loud. You can’t put a price on that nowadays.

    Hail! Hail!

  22. For all you ‘brig bhoys. My cousin, John Martin, RIP, lived in Townhead. He was a P.E. teacher and played for Carluke Rovers and went to Motherwell. Unfortunately it was at the time of Hunter, St. John etc. and he didn’t make may appearances.

Any of you go to school with him?

I was in John’s company quite a few times with ‘brig teachers I knew, Buchanan Arms/West End bar being 2 of the venues.

Enjoyed his company, his stories, and seem to remember Jameson being consumed!

  27. One last TV western before heading for the bunk house ……

Your cousin was probably a bit older than me so I didn’t know him but it stirs strong memories within me. My older brother took me to my first three Celtic games in 1959 while I was still 7 years old. The first game I saw was against Motherwell at Parkhead (sic) and I’m sure it was a 3-3 draw. I was becoming football daft but my daft brother decided to join the Merchant Navy and left me in the lurch. My father would not allow me to go into Glasgow on my own at such a tender a. Glasgow must have been a bit like Sin City to Lanarkshire Da’s in those days. (Ask Big Jimmy) :-))

About this time, or earlier, Motherwell played Rangers (1872) in a Cup replay at Ibrox and the young Well team beat the stickies 5-2 at Ibrokes. I kind of fell in love with them and a couple of years later my Da allowed me to go out to Fir Park to see their home games. They had players like Willie and Jimmy McSeveney, Hastie Weir, Willie Hunter, Pat Quinn, Ian St John, Bobby Roberts. A really good, but inconsistent, team Bobby Ancell was their manager. Later on a guy called Joe McBride became my hero. When I was at St. Pat’s, a ghuy from Baillieston took me to see Celtic v Motherwell in the Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden, A 2-2 draw. I was supporting Motherwell. Joe scored both of their goals. Celtic won the replay 3-0. In the close season Joe McBride signed for Celtic. So did I.
