The Football League in England have woken up to the notion that they do not have a working business model. Solidarity payments from the FA Premier League’s new TV deal will earn Championship clubs £2.3m a season (considerably more than Celtic will receive from TV for winning the SPL), with League One sides earning £324k and League Two sides earning £250k.
Unfortunately, for those hoping to establish a well-balanced and competitive structure, parachute payment to those relegated from the Premier League will earn each club £69m (£23m in year one, £18m in year two and £9m in years three and four).
The Guardian report that today Championship clubs are expected to warn the Premier League that they risk permanently damaging the “integrity of the Football League” by increasing parachute payments to the proposed level. An unusual case of a group asking for some of its members to receive less money.
The Football League doesn’t have a viable business model. Clubs spend unsustainable amounts of money trying to attain the riches of the Premier League, where they can add zeros to both income and expenditure. Most fail and many of them plummet down the divisions. Even those who drop into the Championship with parachute payments (albeit at the old level) find deleveraging too difficult.
The SPL doesn’t have a viable business model either. They should be talking to the Football League and see what benefits could accrue from working together.

As a share holder I normally receive an invitation to the AGM every year however last year (Nov 2012) no such invite was received! Is this something anyone else has experienced or has it just gone astray in the post?
Any advice/assistance would be appreciated.
Rangers star Sandaza duped by Glasgow cabbie
Rangers striker Francisco Sandaza was duped into admitting he only joined the club for the money by a Glaswegian taxi driver posing as a US-based agent.
Cabbie Tommy, a Celtic supporter, somehow obtained the Spanish forward’s phone number, pretending he was Jim McGonagle, a fictional MLS agent looking to sign European players to American clubs.
Sandaza, who joined Rangers from St Johnstone in the summer, has struggled in Scotland’s Third Division, admitting to “Jim” that he has struggled with injury and would be keen on a move to America.
In a candid and at times embarrassing recorded conversation, Sandaza admits that the weather and standard of football are not good, lifts the lid on his £4,500 per-week wages, and says he would move to MLS without blinking if he was offered “a bit more money”.
“I only signed for the money,” he said. “I didn’t sign for the level.”
Sandaza values himself at £500,000, adding he would like to see any proposed contract before Rangers are informed:
“First if you have something official for a club that wants to pay money for me, show me the contract, and if everything is okay I will give you the okay to speak with Rangers.
“If I don’t see anything official first I don’t want any trouble with Rangers, maybe the press finds out.”
Rangers fans calling for his head should take note that the 28-year-old calls the club and the fans “amazing”, while he refuses to criticise manager Ally McCoist, saying he will not talk about personal matters with someone he has not met.
But it is an embarrassment for the player and the club, and given his stop-start season Sandaza could well be on his way sooner rather than later.
‘Tommy’, meanwhile, could be in a spot of bother – it is illegal to record telephone conversations for anything other than personal use.
Did the “7000” have a license to march on Hampden??
Charlie Adam: “We need to attack. We need to go and try to win the game. We’re at home. It’s going to be a tough match.”
Scottish press numpty: “Do Scotland need to attack?”
Sigh…
10 years ago, eh. Seems like yesterday. One of my best feelings ever, walking out of Anfield that night. The Liverpool supporters were brilliant too in how they accepted the defeat.

SKY working perfectly.
Just have to explain to my wee flatmate how to keep it that way……..
I’ll keep you up-dated.
Listening to the conversation between Tommy and Francisco Sandaza was uncomfortable.
How would Tommy feel about similar for someone associated with him – if Tommy had been conned into giving the number.
Publicity hounds and those who mouth off are legitimate targets. I don’t see FS in that category.
Tommy should bear in mind that the Celtic family are a forgiving lot.
Steinreignedsupreme-Will be one of the Cardigan’s followers asking that one no doubt.
Siesta time zzzzzzzzzzz
As a wannabee member of the Bhoys of the Auld Brigade, can I suggest “You’ll never walk alone” for the Celtic film?
Winning Captains-Yes to the app,as long as there is an “off oot” alert, for when he actually finds his way oot the revolving door.

Your welcome.
Beer Duty escalator scrapped,1p OFF a pint from Sunday midnight.
Re-post from previous blog, keen to get an idea on support for this, so we can get it in place asap…thanks
When at Celtic Park I struggle to get online. With this in mind we are looking at creating a CQN App which we will call CQN Today. It would simply carry the most recent blog from Paul and the comments posted thereafter. Would this be supported if it had a one off cost of say £1.50?

Would be nice to have a CQN app, but as a few posters have queried how would the app
get you a better internet signal at Celtic Park?

10 years ago tonight I was in the Main Stand at Anfield watching first Thommo + then a John Hartson screamer propel us towards a European final.
A memorable night. Liverpool fans were as good as gold in defeat as well.

I remember listening to a phone-in on 5 Live later that night and the following night, and to a man, the Liverpool supporters were congratulating Celtic, and the fans, on the result. That’s one of the reasons I have a lot of time for supporters from Liverpool, including Everton and Tranmere. They certainly know their football down there, and that includes females too. (not intended to be a sexist remark, but they do know their football too!)
Just saying like……

A magnificent effort from the Wee Oscar Cyclos (smiley) and support team.
MWD there’s a GB hat put aside for your bhoy, tell him well done from me…impressive stuff.

Memories of Anfield in 2003.
Sitting in the Main Stand beside a fellow Celtic fan and his dad. I’ll never forget the 3 of us doing a wee mini huddle after Hartson had scored the second. The Liverpool fans beside us were as good as gold in defeat and wished us all the best in the tournament.
A truly glorious night.

Not sure how that solves the problem of getting online at Celtic park. Also, will it be for iPhone, Android, windows or all of them?
Make it £1.49 and its a deal.

Aye-ironically because mobile b/b ain’t as fast!
Still, hunner quid a month that wee Rupert will never see….
Dysfunctional clubs abound. Galatasaray are bust, really. They are standing on their tippy-toes in the deep end. One wee ripple and they’re drowning.

A big hand for the Celtic management, who have not punted the club’s entire future on a European run.

Yes they did. GCC broke their own policy of requiring 28 days notice and hastily convened a Friday afternoon meeting to grant the required permission.
Strathclyde plod also recognised the strong feelings the dying club’s fans had too. “Chief Superintendent Andy Bates, Divisional Commander at Strathclyde Police said: “We understand that passions are running high at the moment and appreciate that people feel the need to demonstrate their feelings”.
Makes you wonder why they didn’t understand the GB passions and need to demonstrate ?

We have a guy who specialises in building apps and he says it can be done. Would want to test it first!
It would also be good when the blog crashes etc
Somebody else suggested £1.67 – that had a better ring to it. Talking of 67, had the privilege of having a long conversation today with a Lisbon Lion and the match. Can anyone tell me who WON the penalty for Inter Milan and who SCORED it?
mazzola scored it

Thanks , what an inspirational post i really enjoyed reading that
a pair of Italians.
I don’t mind admitting that I have grown a bit tired of TIG. Unfollwed him on twitter, his agenda is increasingly lacking intelligence or purpose.
The war of words has begun ahead of Friday’s clash between Croatia/Serbia.
Croatian coach Blazevic says “Croatia will cruise to a 4-0 win”.
Sinisa Mihajlovic says “as a proud Serb i will never coach a Croatian team”.
Incidentally, Blazevic was the Dinamo Zagreb manager who rejected a then 18 year old Mihajlovic after a trial saying he “wasn’t very good”.
Roll on Friday at 1700.
