Appetite, Callum, Gerrard sounding like Gloria Gaynor

381

Ahead of the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Hibs we discussed our exit at the same stage in 2014 and how that despite the procession towards the league title, it hollowed out the remainder of the season.  Match day lost its edge and even a record 29-point winning margin could not compensate.

With a secure-looking 8-point lead in the league, the champions have a Scottish Cup semi-final to look forward to.  Only a point separates Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, while Hearts are just three adrift of Killie.  It is Newco who look abandoned, out of the Cup and with an 8-point gap above and below them.

You know a manager is struggling when he beings to sound like Gloria Gaynor, “I will improve”, was what Steven Gerrard told reporters after facing up to the prospect of a season which promises no more than a second place finish.   Of course he will improve, it is hardly credible to suggest his managerial knowledge and experience will diminish from this point.

Maybe he will get £20m to spend in the summer and be able to beat Aberdeen comfortably in the cups.

Celtic visit Dundee on Sunday, a team with more motivation than any side from Glasgow.  They are in the play-off spot, one point above automatic relegation and three from catching Hamilton and safety.  Celtic are vastly better than Dundee in every department, but we will have to match them in appetite or suffer the consequences.

Neil Lennon suggested Callum McGregor may feature on Sunday.  Our creative resources have been severely depleted with the absence of Callum, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic.  The latter two may be back for the semi-final, but we will need Callum fit and ready for games before then.

  1. GFTB- I think KT is a better defender aw day long but AR is much better going forward ?He has a peach of a left foot ?IMO

  2. Bada 10.23pm

Andrew Robertson right now is probably better and playing with better players but remember when Andrew was Kieran’s age he was kicking about Dundee Utd then Hull.. I still think KT is a far better defender and player … by the way I think the two of the are magic but 100 times out of 100 give me KT everyday of the week

I think KT has much more potential, and was a much better player, than AR, but the latter has improved immeasurably, while KT has regressed.

AR is marginally better going forward, but on his day, KT was not far behind. And, again, on his day, KT was a superb defender, and great defensive left backs are as rare as hens teeth in the modern age of wingbacks.

Sadly, KT seems to have had his natural skill and confidence kicked and/or coached out of him.

  4. GFTB ???

    Couldn’t really pick one

    Murdo, May 1979 4-2 game ?

    Lambert Jan 1998 2-0 game ?

    Henrik chip Aug 2000, 6-2 game ??

Again Andrew Robertson has done amazing but still KT every day of the week… just you wait until Kieran is a bit older :-)

Celtic let Andrew Robertson go as he was too “wee” am sure Peter Lawwell the devil must have nightmares about that … or the Sevs should have signed him after he was man of the match at Hampden and the bigotdome back in the ole 3rd division journey :-)

  6. NorrieM 10.34pm

It was Tommy Coynes highlights at CQN 11 not mine ….

I would say my favourite ever goal was 1989 cup final after the centerany season which was amazing stopping the cheats getting that treble was massive

It’s always good “arguing” “comparing” good players …

In my opinion nobody can get near the Maestro but Broony is trying his best …

This is players that are relevant to my eyes :-) not the Lions or other great players …. am talking the last 40yrs… that’s quite a long time !

  9. GFTB-agree,but broony still doesn’t come close to the maestro ?

Hearing big billy has passed ?

  10. So Hunny Gee thinks the Sevs are hard done by, not saw Goldsons latest assault but saw his straight leg the other night and didn’t even merit a yellow, by all accounts the Colombian Messi also went for a Killie player going down the tunnel, MacGregor the thug another yellow card for playing to the “gallery” …. a player will be hurt one day as these idiots don’t play by the rules … they think they are untouchable …. hopefully Neil gets his third away win in a trot tomorrow, and as for some who think it’s better for Neil not to get the job on health grounds…. am pretty sure Neil thinks differently but will appreciate their concern :-)

  11. If this is true, then God Bless him and his family.

We might not have been about in 67 but we were about in 88…. your sentiments about our King Billy had no malice whatsoever and if some read your posts they would realise the same….

  25. When ma Dad was my current age he developed a terrible case of ear-ache. One of his brothers, ma uncle Alec had suffered from it many years before and so ma Dad asked him what cured his attack.

    Alec said ‘try whisky’.

So ma Dad went and got a half bottle of whisky and tried it.

Sadly ma dad had been a lifelong tee-totaller and didn’t realise that Alec meant for him to try drinking it. Which explains why when I walked into the house at 2.30 one morning ma Dad was dipping a cotton bud into a glass of whisky and poking his ear with it, while complaining that it wisnae working.

Anyway I explained to him that Alec meant for him to drink the stuff…but for purely medicinal purposes.

So trusting my judgement he tried a wee sip.

10 years later he began a campaign in Coatbridge’s Old Monkland to get whisky on prescription as it seemed to be a ubiquitous cure for all known ills, quoting his own miraculous cures over that decade as evidence.

Why any of that matters I really don’t know, but it occurred to me that as I am now at that age I should consider whisky as a panacea for life’s ills, although in my case most of life’s ills have actually been caused by whisky in the first place…and women….and wackybacca….so from now on I am going to avoid anything beginning with a ‘w’.

In the meantime tonight I pondered evolution in general and humankind’s place in it.

This is my half conclusion since having got half way through it, I opened a bottle of Malt, texted a fine lady of my acquaintance (in the living room) and rolled a joint, hence avoiding the three scurrilous ‘W’s.

So to evolution…or as I call it

Oy!!!! You!!!! Darwin…I want a word

(by the way, It is quite reasonable to assume that I am not totally right in the head!!)

Young Darwin as he sailed the seas, studied fish and birds and bees,

Nurtured mould, dissected rats, then wondered why “…that cats are cats?”

To speculate, to explicate, to ponder and to formulate

“Why whales are never found with feet, nor cabbages made out of meat?”

“I’d like to find a worm so bright, that’s set its mind to read and write

or crabs that that like to demonstrate, their new found skill for walking straight

To see a lion strum its guitar, believe me I would travel far,

Or can a tiger e’er be found, sat at the bar to buy its round”

“In my world” he’d sit and muse, and ponder as he searched for clues,

Why hamsters on the spinning wheel, would never waltz nor ever reel,

Why artists’ nippers take to crayons, why thoughtful folk have thinking weans?

Why Daddy’s nose or Mammy’s eyes, in offspring does the same arise?

    And then I opened a bottle….mind you I’ve never had ear-ache

    Hail Hail

    Matt

  26. Fellow Celtic fans good night n god bless …. Dundee tomorrow I wonder if Neil will notch 3 away wins on the trot am pretty sure his predecessor didn’t manage that this season :-)

keep your glass half full because there will be one of these days things won’t be as good as they are just now …

    Hail Hail

  27. Kris Commons asked if he was disappointed in Brendan Rodgers leaving ,,,, his answer “why should I be disappointed we have a real Celtic fan in charge now”

  28. Made the ill-advised decision to watch the Sevco vs Killie highlights …

If that is the highlights, how bad was the rest?

    What dire, dire stuff!!

Oh look. Sevconian managed to kick the ball. Quite, put it into the highlights.

I note the professional foul which should have been a red card was mysteriously omitted.

I wonder, will they appeal the yellow?
