Athletics doing the right thing

610

Celtic were near their silky smooth best against Hearts on Saturday. It looked like their fifth competitive game of the season, and Progres(s) on what we’ve seen in Europe. We now have two games in Glasgow – Kilmarnock on Tuesday and Partick Thistle on Friday, before Astana’s visit on 16 August.

Brendan Rodgers job will be to ensure the players’ fitness is near peak by then. The tiredness, which was apparent late in the game against Hearts, should be replaced by energy in the tank.

It must have been fingers in the ears time in various places across Scotland, as the World Athletics Championships dealt with the consequences of handing out prizes to those who didn’t compete within the rules years ago, while pondering what to do with those who were caught cheating, but remain at the top of their sport.

Athletics is trying desperately to move on. Jessica Ennis-Hill’s gold medal, awarded six years late, is a necessary step in the right direction. It’s not the same as winning on the track, not by a long shot (put), but athletes know their sport is intent on doing the right thing, no matter how long it takes.

  1. For anyone who hasn`t read it, this is from the Developing Story and I find it remarkable ( in a good way !).

In going through the remnants of a once-proud bastion of community spirit, the new captain of this vessel has unearthed damaging evidence that would “without question bring the Scottish game into disrepute.”

This admission was the subject of a CQN Magazine exclusive last week, and it was our initial intention to blow the story wide open…

Until the SFA got in touch and not just the once.

The governing body wants to know more.

And we had plenty to show them after the work done over the past few months by a senior investigator with a decade of experience at s senior level.

Today, taped interviews and emails have been seized by the powers-that-be at Hampden, and a formal period of preliminary investigation is now underway.

This case is now live, and, as such, we are duty-bound to refrain from providing any further details that may prove prejudicial to the ongoing SFA enquiries.

What we will say at this stage, however, is that whilst five-way agreements may well prevent title-stripping, the potential outcome of these paranoia-busting revelations might leave our game’s guardians with no other option.

No other option could also be read as no other alternative.

And this is only the beginning of what is a developing story…”

    Goodnight all.

It also gives them the opportunity to organise, deflect, and defend

Look, there has obviously been a lot of good people working hard behind the scenes on this – and better minds than mine.

I’m worried we’re playing too clean on this… these things don’t happen with members of the sfa being unaware… there are always whispers

Bank Of Scotland threatened to put us to the wall for a few million.

Oldco were given unlimited access to borrowing from the same Bank.

    Masterton was a BOS chief.

    SDM their biggest customer .

    Masterton was at Dunfermline.

SDM was a conduit to getting Calderwood to Dunfermline on the promise if he did well he’d go to Oldco

    Some helluva smoke there

  10. Berniegate

He should have used another word like allegedly or seems.

The banner(s) have yet to be determined as criminal, illegal or even paramilitary. There were no words on the banner being referenced so how do you determine it’s provenance or meaning prior to trial?

    On Cheats FC.

As someone who traveled on the road in question it took some time to revisit both games on that day it was nonetheless obvious on viewing recordings that the game at the Peepildome was not of an appropriate standard and was clearly fixed. If there is now proof, then I’ll lift a glass to those who should have been more fastidious in cleaning their files. Thank you (assuming the SFA don’t now have a fire of course)… An exclusive to Alex Thomson perhaps?

Great recommendation for anyone going to Madrid. I’ve been to Casa Mingo and would highly recommend it.

It’s fairly unique in that it’s menu is very limited i.e. primarily chicken and cider but it’s very popular, so much so that there could well be queues as I don’t think you can book.

You’re right about the church although my recollection is that there are actually two identical churches across from each other, not sure why but maybe something to do with Gaudi??

It’s also within walking distance of the Presidential Palace which has a large statue of Pope John Paul II outside it.

Apart from that Madrid is like one big pub…

Just thinking about it is putting me in the mood for a wee return visit.

  17. PATRICK ROBERTS will tomorrow tell Manchester City chiefs: Let me go back to Celtic.

Winger Roberts was a huge hit at Parkhead as the Hoops stormed to the Treble.

Patrick Roberts wants to return to Celtic

But City bosses don’t see the value of letting him return to Celts on loan, and would rather he moved to another club to get more experience.

Southampton have joined the hunt for the talented youngster, with City reluctant to let him leave permanently.

Nice had been interested in Roberts, but they have signed winger Allan Saint-Maximin from Monaco.

Boss Brendan Rodgers is still desperate to lure Roberts back to Celtic, and No2 Chris Davies said: “There is a home for Patrick here, but ultimately he belongs to another club.

“It will be a collective decision by the player and the club as to where it’s best for him to go, or whether he stays there.

“All I know is Patrick did really well for us.

“We loved working with him and hopefully one day we can in the future, but he belongs to another club.

“He has been coming on in games for Manchester City, and started against Manchester United in America.

“So he’s there, he is working and we will see what happens.

“Roberts is a different type of player. He is quite an intricate dribbler in tight spaces.

“He brings a different dimension to the attack, and he would do that to any team, even in the Premier League, because he is quite a unique player. He has real close control.

“When things are tight around the box, Roberts has creativity. We are comfortable with where the squad is at.

“We are always doing our work behind the scenes, speaking to agents, seeing about availability, seeing who could be the right player for Celtic. But we’re happy with where we are.”

The 20-year-old spent pre-season with the Premier League giants

Meanwhile, Davies insists Rodgers wasn’t being disrespectful to Hearts, after Jambos caretaker gaffer Jon Daly slammed the Celts boss following his side’s 4-1 thrashing at Parkhead.

Davies added: “Brendan was asked a question and answered it.

“I’ve worked with Brendan for a long time, and he always bases his work around respect for opposition managers and players.

“My interpretation of it, when I read it, was Brendan was trying to do was show support for another manager.

“Ian Cathro is a young manager, who Brendan doesn’t even know in terms of being a friend or anything like that. He was just trying to show his support.

“The truth is that we are here at Celtic, and we have more important things to worry about than management teams at other clubs.

“We will move on and focus all our energies on Kilmarnock.”

  18. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

I was told agbout ten years ago by a friend who used to work in the Press , Calderwood was meant to be Advocaat’s assistant but Dick wanted his own man.

Murray had promised Calderwood the assistant job but got in touch with his friendly banker to arrange the appointment of Tango as Pars manager.

When Calderwood was on off the ball he openly admitted Murray fixed him up with the Dunfermline manager’s job. As usual the two C’s who present the show didn’t ask any questions about Calderwood’s admission.

  19. Hi Bhoys

Regards the breaking story and the last games of the season to win the league. I was still in Portugal after being in Seville when the games were played. I remember it this way

Dunfermiline went 1 up at Ibrox meaning we only had to keep a clean sheet and score as many goals as they did.

With time running out we were 4-0 up at killie and the huns were 5-1 up at ibrox.

Our game was 3 or 4 minutes behind theirs and the ref awards them a penalty in the last minute, they score and win 6-1.

Meaning we need to score 2 in 3 or 4 minutes. Highly unlikely in my opinion as our team had been running on empty for a few weeks.

But if no penalty we only need 1 goal to win the league in the last few minutes.

I remember passing comment on this to the guy I was watching the game with. Telling him that’s why they got the penalty award.

Take out of this what you will.

Now add in the clues on the breaking story and Big Sutton’s remarks at the end of our game.

I know what I think has been found although I really know nothing.
