Athletics doing the right thing

610

Celtic were near their silky smooth best against Hearts on Saturday. It looked like their fifth competitive game of the season, and Progres(s) on what we’ve seen in Europe. We now have two games in Glasgow – Kilmarnock on Tuesday and Partick Thistle on Friday, before Astana’s visit on 16 August.

Brendan Rodgers job will be to ensure the players’ fitness is near peak by then. The tiredness, which was apparent late in the game against Hearts, should be replaced by energy in the tank.

It must have been fingers in the ears time in various places across Scotland, as the World Athletics Championships dealt with the consequences of handing out prizes to those who didn’t compete within the rules years ago, while pondering what to do with those who were caught cheating, but remain at the top of their sport.

Athletics is trying desperately to move on. Jessica Ennis-Hill’s gold medal, awarded six years late, is a necessary step in the right direction. It’s not the same as winning on the track, not by a long shot (put), but athletes know their sport is intent on doing the right thing, no matter how long it takes.

  1. What use is 15% sell on clause when you canny spend the £25 to £30 millions to improve an injury ravaged squad?

    Just asking.

Up the polis guy (not in a good way) hope he’s ducked up proceedings.

Up the board just like the polis guy!

Else they will end up misplaced

  3. Burghbhoy,

Cheers for that wee precise update.

The stench is increasing by the passing week.

That sickening feeling at full time inside Rugby Park, and it now looks like the fix was in.

Still struggling with handing it over to Regan and co.

Not to make it 5-0 though. The important part is what happened in the last few minutes of the respective matches.

  5. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

If the moderators are watching, the two C’s in my post about Calderwood on off the ball , refer to both presenters having surnames starting with C .

  6. Hmmm.. ACC Higgins gives comment on upcoming chargesheet against Celtic fans.

Was he asked his opinion or just put it out there? Defence Counsel will have easy job throwing that out of court, one would think.

The question is- where is this pressure to act/comment on all things Celtica coming from, seems politically motivated to me.

Especially at a time when a court (SC) acting outside of Scottish borders has delivered a clear point of reference for action. It proved the illegality of the actions taken by Rankers (IL) over a sustained period of time which the football authorities must act on and address.

The SFA started off by aaying there is no will to take action- lets move on. The SPFL say they have taken legal advice and don’t see the point (but welcome a challenge) – lets move on. The SMSM have run with ‘move on’ narrative with the red herring (lie) that EBTs were legal it’s just that RIL paid the wrong tax and there was no advantage on the field.

Where is the outrage from the media about taxes not being paid? I have NOT seen one single commentary properly addressing this. Where is the outrage at Barry Ferguson ‘escaping’ justice for not paying tax – on £2.5 million received remember – but putting it all in his wifes name and declaring bankruptcy.

Too many sources all using the same narrative of “let’s move on”.

It’s 1984 all over and a people and a cause are being hounded in their own country for their shared love of Glasgow Celtic whilst allowing true perpetrators of crime and hate to slip quietly by.

One final point and i apologise for length of post – over 110,000 fans turned out this weekend to support their team. Yes 110,000 and they are all being conned into attending because of the damned lies of the press for not reporting the truth and the utter criminal behaviour of it’s administrators in not applying the rules and regulations.

As for their being no mechanism to strip titles it didn’t stop the administrators finding one to try and allow a NEW club (not company) straight back into the top division until fan pressure put an end to it.

To finish, we are being asked to move on with the same administrators in-situ, the same ‘honest mistakes’ on day one of the new season, the same Directors at the new club who took them into liquidation, the same lack of transparency in ‘their’ accounts (operating whilst insolvent possibly), titles and trophies of R(IL) being counted as continuos…..etc…

Yet while all of the above is happening Celtic (and it’s support) who pay all their taxes, have a legacy of looking after the needier in society both home and abroad through various bodies/events, whose support are welcomed wherever they travel are being treated with disdain and contempt by the very same SMSM and football authorities.

Move on – NOT IN MY NAME!!!!!

  7. Re Developing Story.

Like many of us I travelled that journey from Seville to Kilmarnock.

On the Saturday night prior to the match there was much pub debate on how things would turn out on the Sunday with varying opinions. The sad thing is that I had no doubt that they would score more than us, no matter what it took.

Even the Celtic fans in the company thought I was being overly paranoid but that’s exactly how it transpired.

Was still gutted though as even though my head knew my heart hoped.

I’ve also never witnessed a team with nothing to play for try as hard as Kilmarnock did that day. Contrast and compare a few seasons later when they were 3-0 down to the old Huns after 5 minutes…

I’m not getting my hopes up as we’ve had more than a few false dawns on this but if there’s something in this relating to that day it would go a huge way towards making up for the disappointment.

  8. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Why would you show incriminating evidence to the people who have institutionalised cheating in Scottish Football?

    Is that clever?

  9. How many other titles and cups stolen.

How many actually won on the park by properly registered players and honest referees.

    Probably none for 30 years.

  21. I don’t think this info will have been given to the SFA lightly. They have been given a chance to clean up their act and if they don’t I suspect there is enough retained information to blow them out of the water. Sometimes you need to use a lever on a big rock to make it roll down a hill.

Just my take on things but could be completely wrong. Remember what Auldheid has been saying about patience.

I was sitting in the second row of the main stand that day. Various members of the Killie backroom staff and substitutes celebrated every time news of a goal came from Ibrox.

I’ve also got a good friend who had a season ticket for Rugby Park and even he was taken aback at their determination to keep the score down that day.

  25. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

Why the excitement. You, we, Celtic already have all the evidence of cheating that’s needed.

After years of waiting the UKs Supreme Court verified what the dogs in the streets knew. The Huns cheated.

And it isn’t just the Celtic club who are silent.

    What have we done ?

Not a banner, chant or march.

Nothing other than anonymous words on a blog, hot air.

  26. The Green Man says SACK THE Board on

Not wise imo, to show your hand to the enemy.

People who have ignored us and treated us with sheer contempt, cheated, lied, obstructed,

You only give them time to construct another strategy.

  27. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Gutenberg, that day summed up the anti-Celtic feeling of some fans of other clubs.

Here we were four days after playing in uefa cup final in seering heat , taking it to extra time , we had defeated two EPL clubs and a Bundesliga club on our way to the final , had lifted the profile of our game and all we got as a thanks was get it right up ye , ye won hee haw.

  28. “Everybody knows I’m a Govan boy and I’m looking forward to going home”. Calderwood on Radio Scotland Saturday 24th May 2003. In response to question from Jabba asking if they would lie down. They weren’t even hiding it!

  29. See this publish the truth stuff?

    Have you not been watching?

Who is going to publish? Not the SMSM, maybe an English paper.

Sure the bampots can publish on social media and get everyone raging but for how long and with what effect?

The TJN report was the nearest to a media publication on LNS and UEFA Licence published but did smsm cover it? Nope. Didn’t refute it, just ignored it.

Awareness has to reach critical mass to get action and with a main stream media that refuses to report or deflects or misreports, every other avenue, like putting the issue in the hands of the SFA for comment has to be tried. Had the UEFA Licence 2011 not got on the AGM agenda at all would it still be a live issue now in spite of active media attempts to kill it?

It is a sad indictment of Scottish Society that what would be taken for granted elsewhere is shrouded by a cloak of narrow self interest.

Concentrate on the message, not the messengers, the jobs hard enough.

  30. TSOAL, I’m doing well. Had a damned fine day on Saturday topped off with a couple of shandies with you and your good lady.
