Athletics doing the right thing

610

Celtic were near their silky smooth best against Hearts on Saturday. It looked like their fifth competitive game of the season, and Progres(s) on what we’ve seen in Europe. We now have two games in Glasgow – Kilmarnock on Tuesday and Partick Thistle on Friday, before Astana’s visit on 16 August.

Brendan Rodgers job will be to ensure the players’ fitness is near peak by then. The tiredness, which was apparent late in the game against Hearts, should be replaced by energy in the tank.

It must have been fingers in the ears time in various places across Scotland, as the World Athletics Championships dealt with the consequences of handing out prizes to those who didn’t compete within the rules years ago, while pondering what to do with those who were caught cheating, but remain at the top of their sport.

Athletics is trying desperately to move on. Jessica Ennis-Hill’s gold medal, awarded six years late, is a necessary step in the right direction. It’s not the same as winning on the track, not by a long shot (put), but athletes know their sport is intent on doing the right thing, no matter how long it takes.

Bankebhoy, someone pisted on here a while back that Celtic were advsed , after the broken telly aftermath in Manchester, using o@@ f@@@ was bad for our brand .

I’m really pleased we decided to ditch using that term as we are guilty by association , if we still used it.

The media overdrive with o@@ f@@@ does my head in.

  2. I see that Top Cop (not from Fife) Bernie Higgins has spoken about the banners at the Linfield game.

Now, my understanding was that Celtic fans have been charged in reelation to these banners.

Is mr. Higgins allowed to proclaim their guilt ahed of a trial?

He said:- “I don’t think anybody would say their paramilitary banners at the Linfield match were anything other than distasteful — and criminal.”

CQN Lawyers- has he prejudiced a fair trial?

  3. If Celtic watched Astana in today game there was not much they could learn. There were changes in the squad, new tactics, second choice goalkeeper etc.

  4. the glorious balance sheet on

Virgil van Dijk is the embodiment of all that is wrong with modern day football.

Happy enough to sign long and lucrative contracts.

Happy enough to pick up wages when injured.

But desperate to engineer a move on his terms when he gets a sniff of interest from a bigger league or a bigger club.

This “not in the right frame of mind” snash is nothing new. He pulled the same stunt at Celtic in August 2014 if I recall rightly, pulling out of a game v Dundee at Dens Park immediately before the transfer deadline as he tried to force a move through.

This came at a time when the club was reeling from the Legia Warsaw and Maribor results and he was only one year into his contract at the club.

The man is a total imposter. He will, no doubt, kiss the badge of his next club but will be trying to engineer another move in double quick time if he thinks a bigger club again are coming in for him.

  5. Dallas.

Often forgotten clarity from the club.

The OF tag is redundant and the Club quite rightly no longer use the term.

    As for that brand thing…..

    …every little helps!

Setting Free the Bears , from what I have been told , those charged after the Linfield game were not charged for the paramilitary banner but for something else associated with the banners.

The person who told me would not divulge what the charges were.

FOCUS seem intent on going out with a bang before the OBAF act is hopefully repealed later this year.

I can’t help thinking that if the judicial review every gets to court the judge will be wondering why, if the issue is as important as the litigants say, did the club(s) they support not do anything about it.

Setting free the bears, those on the home cup ticket scheme will have their season tickets activated for tomorrow night’s game.

John Paul Taylor was asked about it on twitter earlier today.

Isn’t it funny how there were all these Rangers players who would have signed for them anyway, even if they didn’t have an EBT?

  20. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Bankiebhoy, I said to my wife’s St mirren supporting nephew that the term used to describe us and Glasgow’s youngest club no longer applies. His reply was don’t give me that crap.

I have had to pull him up before , about 6 years ago, for his uncalled for description of Neil Lennon.

  21. I was talking to a Motherwell supporter today who was at the game, he said frequently Sevco were allowed to tackle from behind without being penalised, he said Miller won the foul for the first goal by miscontrolling a ball then running into a Motherwell player nearest to him, he tried to talk about the Old Firm I put him right about that, he also said they had a portion of the Main stand at Fir Park and the songs were sectarian throughout, yet tonight we have an Assistent Chief Constable of Police Scotland talking about flags at a Celtic game, something is seriously not right here.
