Athletics doing the right thing

610

Celtic were near their silky smooth best against Hearts on Saturday. It looked like their fifth competitive game of the season, and Progres(s) on what we’ve seen in Europe. We now have two games in Glasgow – Kilmarnock on Tuesday and Partick Thistle on Friday, before Astana’s visit on 16 August.

Brendan Rodgers job will be to ensure the players’ fitness is near peak by then. The tiredness, which was apparent late in the game against Hearts, should be replaced by energy in the tank.

It must have been fingers in the ears time in various places across Scotland, as the World Athletics Championships dealt with the consequences of handing out prizes to those who didn’t compete within the rules years ago, while pondering what to do with those who were caught cheating, but remain at the top of their sport.

Athletics is trying desperately to move on. Jessica Ennis-Hill’s gold medal, awarded six years late, is a necessary step in the right direction. It’s not the same as winning on the track, not by a long shot (put), but athletes know their sport is intent on doing the right thing, no matter how long it takes.

  4. Afternoon all. Last day in Spain for me. Still another three weeks before I go back to work, though.

Is tomorrow’s match on the telly?

  5. We are playing Tuesday & Friday. Will Rodgers do two 11’s?

    Tuesday:

De Vries, Miller, Ajer, Lustig, Ralston, Benyu, Kouassi, Hayes, McGregor, Armstrong, Aitchison

    Friday:

Gordon, Gamboa, Biton, Jozo, Tierney, Broon, Ntcham, Forrest, Sinclair, Rogic, Griff

I suspect that Brendan will rotate 4 or 5 between the games but I’d just do two different 11’s

You don’t get match fit by resting players so i think only 2/3 changes for tomorrow – Simo definitely

  10. See all this legal stuff that we may be forced to endure in order to get justice etc, here’s a wee quick possible solution ?

Why don’t I offer both Mr Regan and Mr Doncaster a “Square Go” ?

Winner gets the feckin titles ?

Simples……….and no need for any crowd funding etc, just a bit of spare ground somewhere in Glesca ?

  12. If true Paddy off to Nice then good luck to him.

Would hope we have alternate targets.

If we knew Paddy was unlikely to resign then surely Christie should have stayed?

With it looking likely that we will receive money from Van Djirk deal and Armstrong looking 50/50 to be sold for a decent sum then surely reinforcements are planned.

Going into European ties shorthanded in key areas may be due to bad luck but surely after last years huge profits we could invest in the squad to minimize risk?

Won’t hold my breath as we have a history of snatching defeat from a position of strength.

  13. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    Re boycotts.

I recall about seven or so years ago having a wee “discussion” on here with AULDHEID.

He was, even then, calling for a boycott of sponsors.

I pointed out that throwing a boycott where everyone turns up is like throwing a party where no-one does.

Is Morrisons cheaper? We’re going there.

Do the weans want a Big Mac? They’re getting one.

Do they want the latest adidas gear,or whatever? Sold.

So,a boycott which nobody notices? Doomed to failure.

Neither of us at that time thought about informing the companies involved that they are being boycotted.

This is the way forward, folks. The only way they’ll realise they’re being boycotted is if they’re told. A drop off in income, and no knowledge of why, might puzzle them for a split second.

A raft of people telling them why it is happening?

    Well,there’s yer green pound.

  14. I think we have enough in the squad to win the Astana tie as it is. Appreciate we will have tightened sphincters at the cluggers given free rein to batter KT, Scott Sinclair and others but not a fan of the bloated squad.

Would love to see Kouassi make an appearance this week (like the look of him), thought N’Cham looked a player and at CH we have Jozo, Bitton, Ajer and Lustig all standing with Boyata and Erik back next month.

Wee nippy right winger who can play up front signed late in the window – Paddy or the like..keep Dembele, resign Armstrong and cut a bit more into the squad too – bye bye to henderson, Cifci and a few of the youngsters….

  15. weebobbycollins on

Bada Bing…hope you are not going to start believing C McL…

He reads this blog (as do most of them)…I suggest he grow a pair of cojones, start telling the truth and stop worrying about the consequences…does he want to be remembered as a great journalist or just another media toady?

  16. Wonder if that Chump Jon Daly will refuse to make ANY comments about ANY other team his club plays while he’s in that job at Jam Farts….I doubt it, but I’m prepared to wait and see ?

I do wonder that should The Huns beat his mini huns, he will be praising how good Pedro’s Paupers are….blah blah ?

IF that were to happen, or IF Daly criticised another team for playing defensively against his mini huns, then I will be first in the queue to accuse him of contradicting himself.

Again, during his so called erm ” playing career”…I would be very surprised if Daly had NEVER spoken about how other teams had played against his mobs ?

  17. Hey see this CQN it definitely takes the biscuit por cierto, PS. that’s not all it takes por cierto.

  18. Hunderbirds are Gone on

Just watched rerun there of Marseille V Dijon on BT Sport.

    Marseille won 3-0. Good game.

Dijon were quite tidy in possession, but just couldn’t cut the mustard up front. ;-)

  19. Sorries, I meant to add,

I admit at first that I was a wee bit uneasy when Brendan made his comments about how hertz are run and Cathro and Levein etc but then I thought…..

Most of us on here post comments about other clubs, especially regarding the corruption and cheating, and how some clubs appear to be happy to just “move on”. So we are ALL ” guilty” ( wrong word, I know), of questioning how other clubs are “RUN”.

IF no one questioned how the Huns have been “RUN” and how they are STILL being “RUN” with soft loans etc, then for example IF the Jambos were to suddenly adopt what the Huns are doing, are we ALL to remain silent on that possible scenario, IF it ever happened ?

When Daly was at Dundee Utd and/or the Huns, I would be very surprised if he and and some team mates etc, didn’t discuss or have an opinion on Romanov for example, and/or all the Lithunain signings ?

    Just my wee opinion folks.
