Athletics doing the right thing

610

Celtic were near their silky smooth best against Hearts on Saturday. It looked like their fifth competitive game of the season, and Progres(s) on what we’ve seen in Europe. We now have two games in Glasgow – Kilmarnock on Tuesday and Partick Thistle on Friday, before Astana’s visit on 16 August.

Brendan Rodgers job will be to ensure the players’ fitness is near peak by then. The tiredness, which was apparent late in the game against Hearts, should be replaced by energy in the tank.

It must have been fingers in the ears time in various places across Scotland, as the World Athletics Championships dealt with the consequences of handing out prizes to those who didn’t compete within the rules years ago, while pondering what to do with those who were caught cheating, but remain at the top of their sport.

Athletics is trying desperately to move on. Jessica Ennis-Hill’s gold medal, awarded six years late, is a necessary step in the right direction. It’s not the same as winning on the track, not by a long shot (put), but athletes know their sport is intent on doing the right thing, no matter how long it takes.

See you in Dumbarton Harp next Wednesday wi A. Day off for me. Will be there early. :)

  2. So will yesterday’s developing story be yesterday’s news or will there be blood?

Off out to climb the hills before the heat hits.

  3. AULDHEID @ 1:53 AM,

Yes, I’ve read through the Scottish Football Monitor blog… it’s subject matter like this where TSFM comes into its own…

Great article by BRT&H, although what exactly will make up the application for a Judicial Review still alludes me.

But I’m happy Paul67 and the Fans For Judicial Review has it covered, I just think folks expectations and optimism maybe a bit high.

    Perfectly reasonably under the circumstances.

I’m in total agreement with you on the “Developing Story”, sure the SFA have shown they cannot be trusted to carry out their Governance role with any great rigour and in fair and impartial way when it comes to Ibrox.

Yet CQN & TWC took the correct approach, another failure to properly investigate Rangers wrong doing could be fatal for them.

They give the impression their invulnerable to outside influence and are a law unto themselves. Yet I’ve seen that veneer cracking in the heat of the Supreme Court Decision and the Craig Whyte Trial revelations.

There is a straw that will break this cartel…

    Hail Hail

  4. So, just waking up to all this.

Couple of thoughts: there is enough in the article to provide a “jigsaw” identification of what the allegations are.

But some things are very unclear. For one, if CQN is in possession of irrefutable evidence of skullduggery, why not publish? Or hand evidence to police? Frankly, after the last few years, handing evidence to the SFA is the last thing I’d do.

Secondly, the use of terms is confusing. Was the evidence “seized”? By whom? The SFA? They have no powers of seizure surely?

“Live case” implies someone has been charged (by the police) and reporting restrictions are in place. But if the police aren’t involved then their is no case or investigation to go “live”.

We all remember the end of that emotional week. After the events of the last few years, frankly nothing would surprise me anymore. But I think CQN needs to be very careful here – the outline of a story has been sketched, but the guts of the article remain confusing.

  5. Interesting news that I have just read this morning from the ” Developing Story” ?

I fully respect AULDHEID and ALL the others who have been at the forefront of exposing some truths about corruption.

if I remember correctly ( and it was a widespread rumour at the time) was that after the Huns got the required result against Dunfermline that day, the Pars goalie ( Stillie ?), was alleged to have been a guest at some Hun supporters function that previous midweek, and allegedly made the some comment to the Huns fans, ” Rangers won’t have many problems scoring this week” ?

Or words to that effect ?

As I say, that was one of the rumours at the time.

I am very tempted to buy a ticket for tonights game v Kilmarnock but I am a non season ticket holder these days, and I don’t know the cost of a ticket, but in any case, I do feel strongly about giving the SFA and feckin Killie any of my money ?

Solely out of curiousity, what price for me tonight anyway, anyone know ?

Cheers to AULDHEID and ALL the other Bhoys.

    HH

  6. For any others on here who may not be going to Celtic Park tonight for obvious reasons, I will post later today what pubs around Glasgow Cross that MAY be showing the game on tv tonight.

At the moment, I suspect only ” The Whistlin Winds” at the bottom of Saltmarket, as it has Celtic TV ?

IF thats the case, I may well be in there at 3pm today, to make sure Ive got a feckin seat ? LOL.

    Its not a big pub.

  7. ME @ 6.47am,

In the interests of clarity ( ahem)….my post aboot the rumour surrounding Stillie, was meant to read that he was a guest at a hun supporters club a few days BEFORE the lost 6-1.

Can I also ask this about the “Developing Story” ?

If emails and tapes were seized yesterday, why was there NO MENTION of this on Scottish tv news at teatime last night ?

Ah….I believe that I may already know the answer to my rhetorical question above ?

    Hun BASSA’s !

Hinging is too good for these “Peepil”

    HH

  8. Morning all.

    Italiabhoy 6.56

    Very good post.

The rumour mill is now in full tilt and, apart from those in the know, not me then that’s all it is, but that’s human nature when the guts of an article are missing people will try and fill in the blanks. My guess it wasn’t Dunfermline who paid for the 5 star hotel and or trip to Spain.

TWC, keep up the good work.

I was at Rugby Park and Gordon Marshalls time wasting from the first minute was a disgrace. He said afterwards and I’m paraphrasing I wasn’t going to make it easy for them. However he had never wasted so much so early in any other game. When he was goalie coach at Motherwell, Dundee or Hearts, I can’t remember which team it was, I have to be honest and say I booed him every time during their warm ups. He is up there with Judas and Jim Melrose, in my opinion.

    Hail Hail

  9. Who was the mason Ref at Huns v Pars that day ?

Having watched the so called Hun penalty award from Sundays game v We’ll, the reaction from the hun player Cardoso to being supposedly fouled was yet more Cheating.

He lay there as if “Pole Axed”…milking it for all it was worth.

the Daily Rectum showed a photo with the caption ” Cardoso after he was flattened” ???????

Are they aving a feckin laugh ?

    HH

  10. I remember of course Martins comments after the Killie game, when he said…! In all my years in fiba, Ive never seen a HOME TEAM who are 4-0 down, try to waste as much time as possible” ?

    Gordon Marshall…yer a hun and a cheat !

The Celtic support will never forgive you.

    HH

  11. Looks like they’r pulling out the bigs tonight eh?

    ——————

Alan Muir will referee tonight’s Celtic v Kilmarnock League Cup tie assisted by Frank Connor. Along with Steven McLean they were the officials that missed Josh Meekings handball in the 2015 Scottish Cup semi-final between Celtic and Inverness Caley Thistle.

  12. There is possibility that Astana will sell their key striker Patrick Twumasi to Bursaspor before the games against Celtic. Negotiations apparently in this week.

  13. Connor is a careerist and will do what it takes to further that. Ok I’m being kind there

  14. Morning Timdom

I too will admit my confusion at why the info about the bad guys amassed by the good ghuys would be handed over to the bad guys by the good ghuys?!?!?

But then I’m a simple soul, easily confused.

‘Seized’ docs? Interesting choice of word. Or tantalising hyperbole?

What I will never forget was landing at Glasgow airport on that fateful day. Had watched Seville from holiday in Cyprus – a game I will never rewatch. On landing the pilot announced the 2 scores and joked, no fighting. I ‘did the math’ and my heart broke still more.

Big Sutton only called out what we already knew. I mentioned not too long ago about my naive 10 year old confusion in 1980. BB trip. Cup final day. Why we’re all the St Mirren supporting officers sooooo in favour of only one team.

Hillsborough was a tragedy that led to many things. Massively reconfigured stadia required steel, required capital……fed and fuelled the crafty ways of the Scottish establishment….here and ‘offshore’.

But hillsborough also led to fundamental change. The spirit of ‘Internet bampottery’ that created CQN et al was actually previewed in the J96 campaign. The relentless pursuit of truth and justice against the State’s most powerful vested interests – politicians, the media, the police and judiciary. To all of that has been added in our case the financial establishment in Scotland and the crafty ways of working that pervade the establishment here.

I can handle defeat. I can never and will never ‘handle’ or accept being cheated. And if it’s being done on an industrial and institutional basis, then I’ll fight industry and institutions themselves. And doff my cap with respect and thanks to the Res12 Bhoys who’ve done so.

  17. Are there still unnamed recipients of ebts ?

The developing story mentions documents & tapes.

In a radio interview calderwood unashamedly talked about being placed in the Dunfermline job by Murray.

As a stepping stone to the Ibrox job.

He also joked about his father being a rangers man. And not letting him down .

    We were not paranoid enough.

Need to go find that interview. I wonder if he was recorded off air.

  19. I see John The Plagiarist has hitched his wagon to the CQN story, although he doesn’t cite CQN once…

I also notice he kicks off such explosive news with his boilerplate “belly from backbone” statement.

John The Plagiarist makes wild guesses about a £1m EBT in the article too.

Please tell me none of you contribute to him.

  20. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

    Good Morning.

And so we finally see something being done about “The strange case of Dunfermline Football Club!”.

For many Celtic fans, as soon as you say “Dunfermline” you immediately think of 2003 and the visit of the Pars to Ibrox after the team had dropped their bags off at Glasgow Airport in preparation for their holiday later that day. Many will think of Chris Sutton’s rant on TV about how they lay down and surrendered to Rangers deliberately.

Despite taking the lead that day, Dunfermline just happened to lose by just the right score while Celtic missed a penalty against Kilmarnock.

That is an understandable thought process.

However, back in the heady days of 2011/2012/2013 that was a thought process that was far from my own thoughts.

Writing on the Scottish Football Monitor website on Saturday, April 13th, 2013 I returned to a topic which I had been banging on about for some time – namely the business arrangements behind Dunfermline and the activities of Gavin Masterton.

I had previously asked awkward questions about Masterton’s ownership of Dunfermline and his relationship with Murray and the involvement of both men with the Stadia Group. In a long post on the RTC blog, or Paul McConville’s blog or somewhere (I obviously can’t find it at the moment) I tore into the Murray/Masterton relationship and even hinted (no more than hinted at the time) that Murray secretly controlled Dunfermline having come to a deal with Masterton about shares, loans, property deals and other matters.

My conclusion in April 2013 was summed up in the following sentence.

“The Governance of that club (Dunfermline) and the financial arrangements behind the club should have been looked at and examined by the SFA long before now– and the Dunfermline fans warned about the dangers of any such arrangements.”

There is very little faith in the SFA as a body, but there has to be an SFA to oversee the professional game.

In the past, those sitting at the table wearing the Blazers have been useless and ineffective in many respects and there is a need for people who are far smarter, who are much more alert and who don’t live in fear of guys like Mad Minty or crave the third knuckle grip.

Yesterday there was an article posted entitled the fox is back in the henhouse.

Ha, that is nothing new and any investigation into Dunfermline will show that foxes have been visiting the hen house for years.

  21. Goooood Morning CQN

I’ve asked this question before, surely some media outlet, outwith the U.K., would like to investigate the biggest sporting scandal ever in U.K. Sport ? And the knuckle crunching coverup ?

Doesn’t Dermot or Dennis O’Brien hold a significant share in a media outlet ? Outwith the uk ??

  22. Auldheid @ 11:31

“Concentrate on the message, not the messengers, the jobs hard enough.”

If posters with an opinion but little, if any, evidence in support were to read that comment before posting, perhaps CQN would enhance the prospects of success in making the Authorities face up to any wrongdoings.

    JJ

  23. The 2002/2003 Season is becoming interesting…

    Rangers won a treble.

They were over £50 million in debt, which of course didn’t contravene any FFP at the time, but was having such an unhealthy relationship with a Bank good for the game?

They had many players receiving illicit payments through an illegal Tax Scam. The Players were not correctly registrated due to side contracts not disclosed to the SPL or SFA so we’re not eligible to play in any matches that Season.

Old rumours abound about an opposition Team laying down during a crucial match to allow Rangers to Score the Bucketful of goals necessary to win the Championship – now the rumours imply this could not only be true but that the Team were incentivised to do this.

    And proof exsists?? Wow!!

Rangers Treble Winning Season needs to be revisited as a matter of urgency, this is far too important to be buried in some nondescript review.

The SFA must look at the 2002/2003 Season and if the accusations hold up they must…

Strip the Treble Trophies from that Season

Sanction Rangers Football Club (no Oldco nonsense, this is FOOTBALL related, the current Rangers MUST be liable) with at least a Seasons Suspension from the game and proportionate Fines.

Sine Die Ban ALL the Club officials who were in a Senior Position at the Club and take action against Players and Managers and Officials of the Clubs found guilty.

    Hail Hail

  24. Last week I mentioned that I thought that the bad press overdrive for Celtic was related to some smelly stuff coming down the pipe for the Ibrox club. Admittedly, that’s not a very original thought – the SMSM MO is regular as clockwork. Could the Dunfermline Question be that smelly stuff????

I’ll be honest, I thought the smelly stuff was going to be the cash situation at Ibrox but this story might just fit the bill….

  25. Apologises to all,

My earlier post about the pub at the bottom of The Saltmarket was a bum steer !

The pub that it there is called ” The Whistlin Kirk”…not the Whistlin Winds ?

I obviously had trouble typing the word “KirK” ?

  26. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Brogan, another good but unsettling read about the Murray – Masteron relationship.

When john Yorkston , who I beleve worked for Masterton, was the Pars chairman, he had a habit of having pops at us in the media with no provocation as his excuse.

Barcabhoy posted on here a few years ago he had been told some information about Murray and his management of the deid club which would make the situation go nuclear. I wonder if this was it or am I puuting 2 and 2 togther and getting 55.

  27. Rock Tree Bhoy on

So all the evidence has been handed to the SFA, I wonder what will happen next….not. OK, they may have to brush up on their bullshit skills, but other than that nothing else will happen. We all know this guys, please dont get too excited about this – its all in the hands of the SFA. End of…
