Avoiding bad Fortune

789

I read our treble-winning captain, Tom Boyd, in the Herald advising Celtic to retain players who want away or decline to sign new contracts, until after their Champions League qualification ties, an idea we discussed some time ago.  Tellingly he added, “They will see when they go down south it’s not always as bright down there as they think it will be”, perhaps a reference to his time in the Chelsea defence.

There is unlikely to be much difference in value achieved between selling before or after the qualifiers, so as long as the players stay on-side with Neil Lennon and the club, there will be no reason to sell before then.

Recruiting is a different matter.  Celtic will want players in as soon as possible but with all in-demand talent, selling clubs have little reason to cash-in before the business end of August.  For me, there are some on the list we are currently linked with (I’m trying to avoid stepping onto the speculation train as long as possible) who I’ll be happy to see sign elsewhere.  Half the battle in transfer windows is to avoid the bad Fortune of splurging money on players who don’t work out.

I keep hearing ‘Lennon is only third person to win the double as a player and a manager at Celtic’ – who are the other people outside our club who have achieved this feat?

  2. Ill log off I think…

Yeah it is a valid point that you raise. SFA have lied about the reason for ineligibility. However, I am not so sure Uefa would confirm their reason for expulsion if the scenario you mention did materialise.

Out of interest, do you believe that the RFC(IL) SFA membership was actually transferred to Sevco as claimed by Grant Russell from STV etc?

  7. CorkCelt, I knew you knew, just adding to the joke you made, and trying to lighten BT’s spirits too;-)

BT has problems with his phone, we talk this morning about it, he got it, I hope.

BT, sorry mate, should have realised you’d be feeling raw with the news today, apologies if the gag didn’t work or the timing of it was badly judged.

Sorry for use of the word ‘expulsion’. Ineligibility is more appropriate.

  9. Jeepers, BT hope we haven’t pished you off with our juvenile response to a spelling error. I can really appreciate what a sickener today has been for you, you are normally so bubbly and upbeat maybe we took it for granted that you would appreciate the humour. Stay strong bud best of luck.

Getting another dozen bottles of wine delivered by the weekend we can take a couple of bottles over for testing, I mean tasting.

I don’t like the idea of trailing BT around the course on crutches, I think we could get away with shortening one crutch by a foot or so,that could help.Either that, or he gets more morphine off the doctor, and he can float his way round the course.

Those who played for Celtic never forget who this club is.

I heard that when Celtic were close to extend contract with Paweł Brożek, Żurawski recommended Brożek to Wieczfnianka Wieczfnia Kościelna. I don’t remember if Brożek passed tests, probably not.

  17. CRC, managed a wee run tonight, might not be out of the 5’s for as long as predicted.

Foot felt fine. Not back this week though, too risky, another run later this week if that goes okay will be back next week, if there is a space.

Can anyone enlighten me with a question re: the Derry City / Sevco similarities?

I notice on the ASA reply that they said along the lines of “it[the ECA] considered RFC was still the same football club, having the same registration number with the Football Association”. This reads to me that not only did the SFA ignore rules (via a 5 way agreement) to transfer the football license, but that they also allowed the registration to be transferred (unless the ECA were mislead in this regard either by Sevco or the SFA).

Do Derry City as exists now have the same registration number with their FA as the previous incarnation did? If not, could this be why they themselves refer to an old club and a new club, as the club being a non-physical entity is purely existent as a registration number with a governing body, as a company is with companies house?

To me, if my quad was written off, and I built a new quad from the bits I could salvage plus a whole lot of new parts I would still consider this a new quad even if the DVLA would let me continue to use the same registration document… but just curious to know.

On the subject of quads. If anyone knows of anyone looking for a road legal quad I’ve a 2006 Yamaha YFM350r Raptor road legal quad for sale. Email is my blog name at gmail.com. Will happily buy beers by way of a finders fee if you know of anyone :)

    ========================

Can anybody answer Quadbhoys question about the same registration number being transferred to newclub from oldclub, and did’nt the rules say at one time that it was not transferable?

I am trying to pick the bones of the ASA piece myself to build up a written appeal, as I said before would love if some of the big hitters would get together on this and put in a strong enough letter to force them to go to UEFA for clarification.

  21. Hope the board don’t get carried away with (I’m sure they won’t) the near guaranteed CL qualifiers over the next three years. The situation must help us to recruit players like vic and from markets like vic’s. Chelsea and manc city could bloat the epl further now the special one’s back and restrict us from recruiting from the epl even moreso than this season. It must be tempting to buy a biggish player or two
