Battle of the Lennons

917

It’s the battle of the Lennons at Celtic Park tomorrow with Danny enjoying the best run of form in his managerial career.  St Mirren are on 20 points, joint with St Johnstone, who they beat in Perth last month, and have already taken a point from Ibrox this season.  They are a technically sound team who will be more difficult to create chances against than Dunfermline were on Wednesday.  They can also play a bit.

Team formation will be enormously important for Neil Lennon.  This is the type of fixture he would previously select a 4-4-2, with two wingers, giving width to the game, but leaving a central two outnumbered by opponents who inevitably pack the middle of the field.  If Celtic persist with this strategy they’ll need to tighten up in the middle.

There is an interesting subplot to this weekend’s games.  Earlier this month there was a daunting 12 points between Celtic and Rangers.  A win for Celtic tomorrow would see that gap shrink to 4 points, with Rangers playing their game in hand away to Kilmarnock at lunchtime on Sunday.  As well as playing for three points tomorrow, Celtic have the opportunity to put pressure on Rangers.

    What does one expect from a pig,but a grunt…

The BBC are the enemies of all decent people.

Once again though – never am i shocked nor suprised at their degenerate behaviour.

    A despicable organisation.

The thing that sickens me most though is this – I am forced by law to contribute finacially to this institution,an institution that sees me as an enemy, merely because of my nationality,my faith and the football team that i support.

  2. So, BBC Scotland are now using the Nevin defence (it’s all semantics) in their claim that we were singing sectarian songs at the Cup Final. Suggesting that there is no difference between political and sectarian songs is blatant nonsense. All they have to fall back on is the new charge of “illicit chanting”, which has yet to be defined, as far as I am aware. Whatever it is, it is not illegal and is merely a catch-all for the powers that be to try and paint us as every bit as bad as them. Here’s hoping the Green Brigade continue to sing and dance and give them no opportunity to tarnish us, as they so want to do.

    BCC,

It wasn’t only the rain I was thinking of: the wind was storm force here today and there is more of the same predicted for tomorrow.

  3. Not seen what happened with Neil Lennon and folk in the crowd, but see the tabloid media have loved it.

Eejit in stand was right to critisize, wrong to make it personal if thats how it went. Dont know exactly what was said.

Manager was wrong to react, he is the Celtic Manager, it might not feel like it for him most of the time but he is, what he has went through the past year has nothing to do with that incident and how he reacted, if it has then time is up.

  4. I know what will get them thinking, play a 2-3-5 formation like they did in my day.

The two wingers can drop back to make a 5 man idfiled when things are tough. Sound good to me, sorry KOJO.

    Hail hail

Sad really that it has come to this. The Beeb is forever diminished by their actions over this simple issue.

    That’s a damned disgrace.

To encounter their cretinous crap when you’re accessing a site like Amazon is just unbelievably foul.

I’m sure you can find some contact info.

    I’ll complain myself.

I am well aware of that fact my friend – hence his nickname, the Dundalk Hawk.

Tony Gorman also played for them,he was from Letterkenny in Donegal.Fenlon is from Dublin.

    They were all decent footballers.

That was like a golden era for Irish League Football.Portadown had those two Scottish strikers – Cowan and Fraser. They also had Vinny Arkins from Shamrock Rovers – He was another cracking player. All those boys were on £1000 per week, which was unheard of.

Cliftonville had two beezers – Peter Murray and Jimbo McFadden.

We also once had a player on loan from one of the English lower leagues – big Keith Alexander – a legend, went on to manage a few English teams, but died tragically a year or two ago.

I will never forget seeing Frankie McAvennie in a Cliftonville shirt at Wndsor Park, think it was a mid-week final against Glenavon? The bold Frank got paid a grand for that appearance – he stayed and partied in the New Lodge. The Reds fans sang “Frankie Frankie bless yerself,Frankie bless yerself.” Frank blessed himself about ten times that night, that’s about the only contribution he made, but the Cliftonville fans were happy enough, depite the result.

Glenn Little whom played for Glentoran was also a goodun’ – think they sold him to Burnley.

Scottish football isn’t that bad ya know. :)

Trial collapsed. IE what a massive waste of (taxpayers) money and time that was. Didn’t even get to send an Orc to the salt mines. Pooh.

I have never seen a footballer strike a dead ball as hard and accurate as he did.Maybe only Lubo, although Lubo could hit it with just as much power with the left boot,as he could with the right.

Anybody remember THAT Lubo goal at Easter Road?

One of best goals that i have ever seen.

It is embarrassing, they defend their case by using evidence that accuses Celtic fans of “illicit chanting”, “Unacceptable chanting” and “Chanting”. They quote media luvvie and vastly experienced MSP (since May 11) Joan McAlpine who can see no difference between political songs and sectarian songs. I can only assume the person who put it together is either a Celtic fan having a laugh or someone of subnormal intelligence (no discrimination intended!). The further points made by yourself (?) and others make for an excellent case.

If that submission persuades the BBC Trust then it just shows the problems with the BBC go all the way to the top.

I’ve no idea what the Offensive Behaviour at Football Bill, or the length of time it is taking to pass through Parliament, has to do with the complaint, but in any case, can anyone explain how BBC Scotland thinks this is a coherent defence of Maclean; they state:

A significant part of the reason for the delay in the passing of the legislation has been party political, with the opposition parties in Scotland adopting a position contrary to that of the SNP. This is noted in the report in the Scotsman (23 November 2011) –

    In particular:

“Last night the SNP government was accused of using its substantial majority to “steamroller” through the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communication Scotland Bill, despite widespread concerns from opposition parties and bodies outside Holyrood.”

  22. Surely if 4 Dunfermiline supporters were arrested for racism on Wednesday night the match commander must be reporting them to the SFA- No celtic fans were arrested for the alleged illicit singing- yet he felt it appropriate to report us- yet Pars fans sing racist songs/ or make racist taunts and it is deemed as less serious- why?

Fond memories of the old Cliftonville days.We were treated like animals, and a lot of us responded by behaving like animals.

Blast bombs, petrol bombs thrown at us.The good old RUC battering us about the head with truncheons, shooting at us with leathal baton rounds.

Up until recently it was against the law to even wave the Irish flag in public,in this rotten statelet – difficult to believe, but true.At every single game at Windsor Park though, the Cliftonville fans would produce the banner of the Republic, and the chant would go up – “One flag in Ireland, there’s only one flag in Ireland!” More in defiance than anthing, and knowing full well what the response would be – The RUC in full riot gear would immediately wade into the crowd, breaking skulls and stamping on kids.Sometimes there would be only four or five hundred Red’s fans, standing on the Spion Kop,drenched in rain. But never once did they manage to seize the flag.

As i say though, our fans were no angels – at times we responded by running amok, going on the rampage so to speak, wrecking everything and anything going to,and from games.I seen a car showroom on Boucher Road, all brand new, gleeming Jaguars – and every single one of them was done – windows put in,paint work ruined and jumped all over.

In the early 90’s the Ra were blowing up the centre of these wee provincial towns – places like Bangor and Newtownards – Maybe Cliftonville would be playing one of these teams a week after their town had been levelled by a van bomb – As soon as the Cville fans walked into the ground, the chant would go up – “We’re gonna bomb yer town,AGAIN,and now yer gonna believe us.”

Violence is never the answer to anything, and sometimes violence begets violence.

These words will never leave me,from a Cliftonville fan after another riot: “And they wonder why we act,how we act.”

    Peace.
