It’s the battle of the Lennons at Celtic Park tomorrow with Danny enjoying the best run of form in his managerial career. St Mirren are on 20 points, joint with St Johnstone, who they beat in Perth last month, and have already taken a point from Ibrox this season. They are a technically sound team who will be more difficult to create chances against than Dunfermline were on Wednesday. They can also play a bit.
Team formation will be enormously important for Neil Lennon. This is the type of fixture he would previously select a 4-4-2, with two wingers, giving width to the game, but leaving a central two outnumbered by opponents who inevitably pack the middle of the field. If Celtic persist with this strategy they’ll need to tighten up in the middle.
There is an interesting subplot to this weekend’s games. Earlier this month there was a daunting 12 points between Celtic and Rangers. A win for Celtic tomorrow would see that gap shrink to 4 points, with Rangers playing their game in hand away to Kilmarnock at lunchtime on Sunday. As well as playing for three points tomorrow, Celtic have the opportunity to put pressure on Rangers.

I’ve asked Paul if he can host two documents from the BBC re the latest stage of the complaint about the Cup final coverage; the compilation of objections to the position adopted by Fran O’Brien, Head of Editorial Standards at the BBC Trust and the rebuttal provided by BBC Scotland to complainants comments.
The former serves to highlight the powerful and persuasive arguments registered by the complainants. We’ve some top notch folk in our midst bhoys who are competent and considered defenders of our support.
Sad to say that the latter demonstrates the urgent need for a collective discipline on this issue within the support. Those associated with the club who have chosen to voice an opinion on the songs issue have been mercifully exploited by BBC Scotland in an attempt to undermine the logic and force of the complainants’ case in a classic exercise in ‘whataboutery’. I sincerely hope, in the aftermath of the imprisonment of a 17 year old Celtic fan and other acts of aggression against sections of the support, that the likes of Neil Lennon, Peter Lawwell and that great self-publicist Paul McBride consider the consequences of their recent statements:
“We would also note statements made in the recent weeks by Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell, Celtic manager Neil Lennon and prominent Celtic supporter Paul McBride QC, all condemning the singing of songs within which there is reference to the IRA: i) 14 October 2011: ‘Celtic’s chief executive Peter Lawwell has urged a section of the club’s supporters to stop singing pro-IRA songs’ http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15307640.stm (see appendix F) ii) 14 November 2011: Paul McBride QC speaking on BBC Radio Scotland’s Sportsound programme: “I believe a small number of people are bringing them (Celtic) into disrepute (by singing such songs).” iii) 17 November 2011: ‘Manager Neil Lennon has repeated a call for Celtic fans to stop the chants that have brought a UEFA charge against the club.’ http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/15777154.stm“

This episode is a total embarrassment to anyone Rankers minded. Even BFDJ couldn’t bring himself to put a spin on this one tonight. I wonder what FF are saying on the matter.

How’s that?
‘St Etienne’ is of course iPhone predictor for ‘Rennes’
