Beat Hapoel Beer-Sheva for Champions League football

822

Celtic will face Israelis Hapoel Beer-Sheva in the Champions League playoff round later this month, with the first leg due to take place at Celtic Park.

Hapoel, carrying a Uefa coefficient of 4, eliminated Olympiakos, coefficient: 70, in the last round – a bigger shock than Dundalk’s win over BATE.  They put on two backs-to-the-wall performances, drawing the first leg in Greece 0-0 before winning the return 1-0.  In the earlier round they shot the Sheriff Tiraspol from Moldova, winning 3-2 in Israel before securing another 0-0 away.

The positives: the Israeli league hasn’t started yet, so Hapoel will be no further into their season’s preparations than Celtic.  It also looks like the play on grass.

In recent seasons Celtic have found new and innovative ways to bow out at this stage but we know what’s required and will be strong favourites to progress.

Bring it on.

I’m also trying to work out having just renewed his season ticket this year after staying away from games he has managed to get a ticket for Hearts away!!!

  2. Good evening friends.

My traditional eve of season ‘I could retire on this’ investment made on various ‘outrights’ for the season ahead –

Tottenham, Brighton, Hibs, Alloa, Forfar to win their leagues and Leigh to be top scorer in ours. 15 doubles and 4-folds, 20 trebles, 6 5-folds and a. 6-fold. 47 bets at mostly 20ps. £10 stake. Potential winnings, just the £17,230.

Just for a wee bit of interest mind you ;-)

Timalloy I would be happy to get a great player who is out of contract. It is you who is making assumptions so stop it.

As for not having a lot of time it is the boards job to plan and have contingencies. They failed in that regard too

    _____________

If you sign a player out of contract you spend money

Usually he will expect a better wage and signing on fee. You still need to pay the agent and you sometimes need to compensate the club.

    Nothing is for free.

Ronny WAS the contingency plan. We all agree it didn’t work as well as we would have liked.

My point is, I can see why the board appointed him on short notice. No other candidate was an obvious choice to me and he had just overachieved in Norway.

Don’t know about ‘inaccuracies and contradictions’, but this bit is bullshit.

    ———-

‘7.1.6. Other than by physical barriers, the pitch invasion could only have been prevented by the deployment of Police Officers within the Stadium in very large numbers. It is not possible to say what that level of deployment would have been, but such internal deployment would have been wholly disproportionate to the overall risk.’

    ———–

There would normally be a ring of plod around the pitch. That would have stopped any pitch invasion, bearing in mind it started as joyous over exuberance rather than an act of malicious intent.

The question has to be why wasn’t the pitch surrounded at the final whistle.

I’ve been told that by two sources. But like Paul67, Phil Mac or even Catman I canny tell you how I know. Otherwise it would put people in awkward positions.

If we were seeded in the draw, why is the first game at home..??

Seeded teams in UEFA draws are not guaranteed home ties. The two team balls are drawn and then shuffled again and first drawn is home team in 1st leg.

  10. 7.1.8. There was evidence that in the course of the Match sections of the crowd in West Stand merited greater Police attention than those in the East. This was because of the discharge of pyrotechnics and the singing of sectarian songs.

    Oh dear.

  11. Timbhoy 3 – I’m sick of a tiny minority of Celtic supporters like you. So much wrong with your posts on this issue that I’m not going to bother.

    I’ll leave it at that

  13. 9.1.9. In line with UEFA Guidelines, all clubs should be encouraged to appoint a Supporter Liaison Officer (“SLO”). The function of a SLO would be to encourage responsible behaviour amongst supporters, in particular by creating and disseminating clear policies on supporter behaviour as well as developing relationships between supporter groups and football authorities.

Are you kidding me, don’t tell me they don’t have one. Whats that you say, he gets paid. Oh right.

  14. Timaloy29

With respect, nowhere does it state that it was part of any plan, nor that Lenny didn’t keep his side of any bargain.

Nor did he walk out on Celtic and feck off south to get a better job.

  25. WEEMAN67 on 5TH AUGUST 2016 6:53 PM

One important thing to keep in mind if choosing sides in the Israel/Palestine conflict is that Israel uses it’s weapons to protect it’s people whilst Palestine uses it’s people to protect it’s weapons.

IE: Firing rockets/mortars from atop schools and hospitals.

I have not taken sides however I feel for the people of Israel who can’t go out for an evening without fear of being blown up. Imagine it was Glasgow..??

    ————————————–

My last post on the matter.

Weeman- The casualties don’t reflect your post, not a jot.

Since 2014 its around 1700 Palestinian deaths to 100 (yes one hundred) Israelis.

Evidently you only read the Murdoch press re Palestine. One side has tanks, rockets (real ones not fireworks) and fighter planes and is a nuclear power backed by the U.S – the other side essentially throws rocks.

The Zionists have at last count violated 60 U.N Resolutions and they occupy (fact) Palestinian land illegally.

The fact that so many prominent Jewish people are ashamed and organise against Zionism should, in itself, tell you something – no?

The fact that x IDF troops have come together as Breaking The Silence to tell people the truth of their appalling history in oppressing Palestine people should tell you something – no?

It really does not take much research to see a clear picture of what is happening in the occupied territory of Palestine. The facts are published and re published on a daily basis by people, on the ground, from many other nations. People with no political axe to grind, but with a determination to end this oppression.

I do realise that shifting anyones embedded opinion on anything usually takes a lot more than simple facts.

As for those bleating about ‘leftie politicos’ – I thought this was a mature blog where a variety of opinions on different themes could be expressed. If us beastly, naughty people who have an interest beyond the pub annoy you then might I suggest go read The Sun for lighter reading?

As for showing support for Palestine at the game – I don’t really know- of course I’d want that, but the risks I think are just too great… the Zionists have a great deal of power and I’m sure that they would ensure we got a good tanking for showing support.

I do hope that we give them a good doin’ on the park.

The time to challenge Rangers going for 55 was years ago.

We don’t need a strong Rangers implied we needed a Rangers.

Add in Lawwells comments about the £10m a season and needing to sell to fill it plus Dermot Desmond’s endorsement and you have a willing participant.

Rangers died legally. Everyone knows that. Our club wanted them back and allowed it to happen during the negotiations that led to the 5 way agreement.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lord Nino smith findings were as a result of a confidential agreement that allowed Celtic free run at 5 titles.
