Better have Dresden expose some weaknesses

851

Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step.  There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.

Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks.  It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).

As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.

Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

Was overseas when this game was played.

First time I have seen it,although the back pages of the ” papers ” were sent to me.

Marvellous look back at the Derry`s Wallbangers who used to crush us with their admitted superiority.Well, certainly in numbers.

Change has come. They`re under our thumb.

  4. I do see a lot of fans thinking that pukki will have good season. Of course we have wish that, but his stats prove otherwise

We can’t wait around on failed goal scorers

  5. Macjay. If a Norwich fan says that he thinks hooper will do the business next year then he would have history behind him as he has been a goal scorer in the past

pukki has never been a goal scorer and was a cheap last minute panic buy

“Michael Davitt will turn in his grave”

    —————————-

On the contrary Michael Davitt in his later life was a great supporter and advocate of advancement of the British working class and was fine example to myself of someone instrumental to the principles of founding the British labour movement.

The commonwealth games and in particular Celtic FC have advanced the lives and conditions of the East End people. Our club was founded on the same principal of helping the poor of the East End.

As I said previously, and I reiterate a price worth paying

    HH.

    —–

“The Queen of Britain is working class?

Michael Davitt would support Brirish soldiers in Celtic Park?

    I know the East End”

    —————————————

The Queen is of course not working class. I think the British class system is out dated and not reflective of social status. However using the traditional class system of education and occupation, no professional person is working class.

Please refer to link, it seems Michael Davitt did indeed welcome British soldiers to Celtic Park.

Very presumptuous to speak for the East End, but I therefore assume you live there. ?

    Can`t disagree,my friend.

    Hooper was ours.

Don`t know, but my understanding is that he was determined to leave.

    Pukki?

Afore your time, but wee bobby Lennox was never a goal scorer until Jock arrived and…..Bingo….a hat trick at Firhill. And the rest is pre-history.

Give our coach a wee bit of time and THEN stick the boot in.

  14. Quite often on CQN posters refer to the `fact` that the Board are unwilling to spend money on quality. It is very easy to make this complaint. It is much more difficult to follow it up with who the quality is; how much they would cost; which quality players would come to the SPFL; how would the rest of the team respond to the higher wages paid to the quality player and would the bought player guarantee success?

    – Shocking stuff. Rangers players look so average, little dynamism or acceleration.

    – Kris Boyd, unsurprisingly, looks unfit.

    – Kenny Miller runs about a lot, but can’t do anything with the ball.

    – Templeton offered nothing.

    – Mohsni hilariously out of position.

    – Darren McGregor is just like Kirk Broadfoot

And finally, McCulloch should be nowhere near Rangers right now.

    Nothing has changed.

  18. Jungle Jim. Enjoy ur bike ride

Ahh the old chestnut that we can’t afford one player of quality but we seem to afford paying wages of numerous goal scoring duds who sit our bench and contribute he haw to our goal tallys. Goal scorers indeed are paid a premium at many clubs as those players help to win trophies

If you are a player who goes in a huff because a goal scorer wins games then get a taxi

  19. For me there were four big pluses to take from yesterday’s game

    1. Craig Gordon looked very accomplished in goal. Like all good goalies he appeared to have presence and a calming influence on his defence. Could be a fantastic bit of business

    2. Callum McGregor lost the ball the first 3 times he got it but after that he played really well. Set up the goal and had his crossing been a bit better he could have set up a couple more. Also he showed lovely footwork to play in McGeough towards the end of the first half. I hope we’ll be able to sign a better player for the wide left position for the CL but Callum will hopefully play 15-20 games for us this season and continue his progression.

    3. Pukki’s movement up front yesterday was very good and he was unlucky not to score. He’s a much better option than Stokes for the Champions League based on his pace, movement and work rate.

    4. Liam Henderson was very, very good when he came on. Always wanted the ball and some great passes too. Great prospect!!

  20. Lot of people saying Kayal played well yesterday (and they’re right). However, he is still a player I would try and sell to raise funds for a new winger. He’s entering the final year of his contract and I doubt he will be resigned. We also have Brown, Biton, Johansen, Mulgrew and Henderson who can play that position.

Surprised there haven’t been any offers for him. Realistically he would be available for around 2m (or less) and would definitely do a job for some of the bottom EPL teams/ top championship teams.

  21. The only thing the games to date have confirmed for me is the lack decent good strikers.

Stokes, Puki, Balde should be moved on if anyone will take them.

It’s been a while since we’ve had such a poor lot of strikers. I know that all transfers are a gamble but time to bring in someone who isn’t all about potential.

  22. All green agree mate. Those 3 will contribute nothing

Strange seeing comments about Pukki pace as he doesn’t have any and is one of his many weaknesses

    Morning everyone.

Celtic have made tens of millions in transfers and CL. Players are still willing to play for Celtic. No excuses. Improve the team with better players.

We were told that all money would be reinvested in the squad. That hasn’t happened.

  30. 16 roads - Celtic über alles... on

Reading back and I apologise for being about three million miles off the pace, but there was a post earlier stating that tens of thousands of zombies held a protest rally yesterday.

Then there a picture appeared and it looks like only about two zombies were in attendance?

Was that supposed to be a joke or what?
