Better have Dresden expose some weaknesses

851

Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step.  There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.

Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks.  It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).

As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.

Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

  1. Looks like Ronny is keen on the 4-2-3-1 formation. That will suit Kris Commons down to the ground, letting him play centrally behind the striker. Griffiths can play wide, as can Forrest (once fit), Aquina (if we get him) and Derk (when fit).

But I’m not sure Stokes or Pukki are right as central strikers in this formation. Balde is probably the closest we have in terms of physique and style, but is still raw. Watt could do the job – if he is in the manager’s plans. And I hesitate to say it, but in this set up a certain Mr Samaras might have done very well …

They should have hired these fellas. More realistic, more intelligent, and it even looks like Diego Maradona turned up for one of the pictures!

  3. Captain beef heart Totally agree with you mate We have known for a couple of years we need goal scorers

Money should be made available for a striker and ship out the duds to free up wages

But our AGM balance sheet and CEO bonus comes first ,

I was going to post that it’s daylight outside there, but was afraid to do so cos Captain Beefheart would probably have said, “ah but it’s pitch black in New York City!’

  8. it sounds like Roni is keener on Kris Commons than may on here would have us believe

Maybe he does understand that there is a lot more to being a good fitba player than being able to run fast and for long periods of time.

    Morning Celts everywhere.

Feel sorry today for the each-way punters this week who fell for the media line “he’s back and he’s here to win.”

Four holes into the last round and TW isn’t even in the top fifty at Hoylake.

  11. Was at a wedding at St John’s RC Church in Portobello yesterday. The priest was hilarious.

    Started off with . . .

“Any Rangers supporters here? Come on I know there’s at least one of you. Ok any Hearts fans?”

    A few hands were raised.

“Ok don’t worry. The Catholic church likes to look after the under privileged.”

    Later . . .

“Some people ask what a celibate priest knows about marriage. Who says I’m celibate?”

I spoke to the man later at the reception. The guy was a scream.

    A great day all round.

Apologies, I’ve gave you a bit of an open goal last night but I was actually dragged onto the dance floor and hit post in error, that’s why there was no full stop at the end of ‘I know the East End’ because it wasn’t a completed sentence.

I don’t live in the East End but have drank there since I was 17, my supporters bus leaves from there and over many years I’ve made many friends from the area.

I keep hearing this talk of how the Commonwealth Games have regenerated the area.

    How exactly?

Certainly the people I know haven’t been impacted on positively as a result of it.

New houses have been created because of the athlete’s village but few, if any, are being made available to social housing. Indeed I believe most have already been sold privately.

What legacy will be left for the people of Glasgow’s East End?

With regards Michael Davitt. Your article was interesting but I wonder how he would look at the contemporary British Army and consider it the same as those who fought in the two world wars.

In my opinion he’d view them as entirely different entities.

After the last game of the season I walked down The Celtic Way long after most of the crowds had gone. I stood in awe and delight at where our club is now and the wonder of the stadium and the immediate surroundings.

I then had to visit Celtic Park for a meeting just as the stadium was being handed over for the games.

The flags were removed and there was an emptiness about the place, it reminded me of a Catholic Church on Good Friday.

I returned last week and genuinely was disturbed by what I saw.

In my opinion Celtic Park looks like a military fortress and all the while we’ll play our homes games along the M8.

That makes me sad and uncomfortable.

I know my opinion will go against what the majority on here believe but this is just the way I see it.

    Hail Hail to you.

Monaghan’s ,Kevin Loughran, might be playing today. He captained Monaghan under 21’s to the junior Ulster championship last year. He’s a big Celtic fan and was in RTE’s football’s next star a two years ago. Unfortunately, he didin’t win it. Came over as a good guy in the programme.

The Murrayfield link posted earlier is very good and its transport information is very helpful.

    ———–

Watched it. Very professional editing with the wee blue zoomy-in effect at the start. My daughter uses them for her presentations at school.

Disappointed no Irish Gaelic subtitles available, not even when you pressed the green button.

Then lights, camera, ACSHUN! and we have some random peepul walking along in the most beautiful pi&&sing rain I’ve ever seen. But v professionally done cos some of the high viz bibs/sashes on.

Then the silent movie became a talkie with several minutes of Can YOUS Hear Me? by manny on top of the scaffold.

Backdrop had a flag from **** Kong loyal – whether it was King Kong of Hong Kong I’ll never know.

Nice wee swaying view of the big hoose facade (a phrase they wear well). Not clear if this was down to artistic filming technique, jackey cameraman need another Buckie infusion or the govan walls of Babylon starting to sway and crumble (get me petec I’m starting to sound like you mhate!!!)

And then I stopped watching. Cos life’s too short. I’m alive today and enjoying it. Their club is deid today and I’m enjoying that too.
