Better have Dresden expose some weaknesses

851

Technically we’re not preseason anymore, but today’s friendly away to Dynamo Dresden is an important step.  There are six weeks before the end of August, with five Champions League qualifier match days in that time.

Tuesday’s gentle introduction to competitive challenges was probably a good place to start for Celtic, this week’s run-out at Murrayfield will allow more of the squad to get some miles under their belt, but you can be sure we will meet our match at some point in the next six weeks.  It would be better for all that Dresden expose as many weaknesses as possible (at the time of writing that doesn’t look likely).

As usual, the mantra for these occasions is: no injuries.

Legia Warsaw are on league duty this evening. I hope we have someone watching.

  1. If we go through, it was bad seeding for both, Legia and Celtic. In the past three years we were seeded in third round of LE or CL. We were knocked back last year by Steaua Bucarest on agreegate goals. After five minutes we were 2 down to make it a draw after. If this game was played another couple of minutes we would play in CL, not them. Legia from the end of the last season would beat that Steaua. I would not write Legia off against Celtic.

    My friends in Celtic,

No European tie is ever an easy ride. All teams now seem capable of scoring on the break ,away from home.

We must prepare and be professional against any opposition. It would seem our season could depend on it.

    Wise comment.

Every team can defend very well, especially when you are facing teams that are winners. The group stages of the WC were fantastic but it will go back to the negative fitba when so much is at stake in these CL qualifiers.

Is it too late to get a pure Genius to Celtic. A guy that can unlock any defence?

Ole Mr Dhino will have listened to Mr Larsson, Mr D’s hero?

There are a couple of things doing ma nut in as the real McCoy starts this season.

This nonsense of playing Griffiths and McGeouch as wingers.

Get Griffiths upfront as an out and out poacher, this guy will net a stack of goals.

He is the best natural striker we have and is quicker to react than Stokes.

McGeouch is a central midfielder and was excellent there recently when we beat that Lask Linz mob.Never a winger in a hundred years.

St Pats 1-0 after away leg, so allegiance have it all to do, but they must still be favourites.

    Morning All,

I trust we are all well and perfectly sane?

HT — an interesting thing on the idea of “Commonwealth” is that in his very first interview after the direct speech ban imposed on Gerry Adams by the British Media, Adams was in the course of being interviewed by John Snow who kept interrupting him and effectively answering his own questions on Adams’ behalf.

The big bearded one then told him there was no point to an interview where Snow both asked and answered the questions, and pointed out that as he had not been allowed to answer any questions live on air for something like several years, he asked if it was not in the interest of the channel 4 viewers that Snow actually let him speak .. and that way he might learn something?

So, having put Snow in his place Adams went on to explain that there were many differing views on what might constitute a united Ireland which would contain something for everyone including the unionists in the north.

He then went on to reveal that there were some within the Republican movement who were prepared to advance an argument whereby the Island of Ireland united under one parliament in the Dáil Éireann but which then gave a position to HM Queen as an honorary Head of State ( not a nominal head of state as in Australia but an Honorary head of state being an honour bestowed by the Irish People ) and with that the said United Ireland would rejoin The Commonwealth.

This of course was news to John Snow — and to be honest news to me as I fell of my chair though the more I thought about it the more I realised that this might just be a very clever policy.

That was then though and this is now.

The problem with politics in many respects is that when it is not corrupt ( and personally I assume that it is likely to be corrupt or corruptible ) it is not forward thinking and is entrenched in stupidity.

This, at least, was a policy that was forward thinking if not universally popular.

Anyway, having said all that, I am only in after a couple of pints at the big church along the road ( the first time I have been out the house all day and that was at 11:10pm ) and thought I would offer a wee tune.

A favourite of mine though I do not understand a word other than it is about a big fisherman who bottled it at one point.

It is very early doors and the Team that gets us through the next few rounds (fingers crossed) will be totally changed by next Summer, IMO.

These questions being asked of the players may well be testing their attitude for the future. I hope to see both playing next Summer. Dylan, I must be honest, I am not sure where you can play him in a 4-3-3 to get maximum effect, if Ronny Deee keeps to that styleee. Leigh, well if it is 4-3-3 then I agree, play him centrally.

  23. TCR, it is, and the only way to keep it so is for Tims to post.
