Billy Dodds nails Rangers on tax

712

Billy Dodds, who was named by the BBC as a beneficiary of Rangers Employee Benefit Trust, wrote in today’s Sunday Herald on the subject.  He alleges Rangers paid him money, which should have been taxed as income, through an EBT.

Dodds wrote, “David Murray came to me and asked if I would receive a payment that was due to me, after tax, through the EBT trust.   And I said that I would.   It was money that was owing to me when I had six months left on my contract and I moved to Dundee United. After the tax was deducted, that money was put in the trust fund.”

What happened to the “tax… deducted” is the crucial question.  Dodds is clear.  This was money due to him through his contract of employment which should have been taxed.  The seriousness of the allegations against Rangers just cranked up a notch – and from a surprising source.

Billy Dodds has just heard about the money laundering and has offered to iron any notes that are a bit creased.

Meanwhile Minty has said that for every fiver Celtic spend, he will launder a tenner.

HBOS gave Moonbeams astonishing money —– most of that money disappeared .

Vast amounts of money went in and out of Moonbeams’ business accounts. Where did it come from ? Where did it go ?.

Bumptious Moonbeams frequently boasted about how much money he spent on Rangers..

And it is also entirely plausible that the BBC and Daly were the ones trying to overturn the gagging order as right up until the show aired last Wednesday night it was said that some of the content was still being ‘finalised’…what they put out was good but they know more.

4 page pull out in one of the Irish papers yesterday about corruption in football, mostly scare stories about Euro 2012 and hooliganism but there was a page devoted to betting and the inference was that there is a betting scandal brewing in the EPL involving players AND their clubs- several top clubs have alleged to have paid players gambling debts running into the millions. Will post more if I can find it.

  5. I too read the Daily Telegraph article. Throw in a few facts, a few rules and regulations, a few quotes, a few innuendos to add confusion to the article, which really does not say anything about newco walking straight back into the SPL. It looks like it was written so as a few huns would renew their season tickets and a few Tims might not.

There may very well come a time for Celtic to speak out, and speak out loudly; I think there may well be a time when either Celtic PLC or Celtic Supporters might have the need to go to court – but like others – I don’t see the need for panic and I do not see the need to haemorrhage in despair and with influence all over the blog.

Not because the Daily Telegraph did a wee joined up (almost) pro-Rangers (in the mire as well as administration) article anyway.

  9. If the stuff about major organised crime is true the it will be kept out of the media for fear of jeopardising any prosecution or trial. Which is as it should be.

For the moment though let’s just concentrate on what we know rather than going off on what might just be a wild goose chase. That should be enough to see the huns liquidated and a newco in the third division.

Although if that happens Celtic might have to explain why they worded the season ticket renewal forms the way they did.

Oh how I hope the money laundering is true, the msm have lauded Dave King for years but for me there’s something not quite right about making millions in a country that lived in apartheid for years and still many people live in desperate poverty, only the huns could get caught up in that,Murray ran them,King put 20 odd million into them,if true, the huns are part of alright.

Assuming they survive the summer, the Glasgow giants will be the only club in the top tier operating without that licence.

The SFA introduced club licensing in 2006 in an attempt to improve standards among senior clubs.

Licences are awarded annually on a gold, silver and bronze basis. At present only Celtic, Hibs and St Mirren have achieved the highest standard.

Clubs are graded on a variety of factors, from facilities to medical care, youth systems and anti-discriminatory policies.

However, in order to be granted even a bronze licence, clubs must have filed audited accounts with the SFA by March 31.

    Rangers’ administrators in firing line

    23 May 2012

Rangers have not published any figures since Craig Whyte replaced Sir David Murray as owner nine months ago and, consequently, they have not been issued with a licence.

However, as things stand, that state of affairs won’t prevent them from being able to compete domestically (they are currently banned from playing in Europe as a result of being in administration).

SPL secretary Iain Blair wrote to member clubs on Aug 15 last year, making it clear that “all Clubs and the Candidate Club must comply and have complied with the Financial Disclosure Requirements.

“In effect, the Financial Disclosure Requirements are that Clubs and the Candidate [promoted] Club must – by the dates set out in the Scottish Football Association National Club Licensing Manual – provide to the Company the information required by the Criteria listed in section seven and all of the relevant Criteria in section eight of the manual.

“There are additional requirements for information as set out in appendix three. The date by which this material will require to be provided to the Company in any year is March 31.”

However, Blair last night admitted that, while discussions are ongoing which will close that loophole, he and his colleagues cannot insist that their members must meet even the minimum conditions stipulated by the SFA.

“It is not a requirement of the SPL for members to be in possession of a licence from the SFA,” he said.

“Whether clubs do or do not have that licence is not currently relevant to their participation in the SPL. Over the next couple of years there may be more of a joined-up approach to financial regulations and licensing.

“There is work going on behind the scenes with ourselves, the SFA and the Scottish Football League in order to establish a more unified policy.”

Scottish League sources confirmed that Rangers would be allowed to enter next season’s League Cup without the SFA licence.

The ruling body was forced to admit that Rangers would also be allowed to take part in their flagship competition, the Scottish Cup, even though licensing laws suggest they could be kicked out of senior football for failing to meet their requirements.

Under Article 35, it states: “Clubs failing to comply with the requirements of the Club Licensing Procedures shall be liable to a fine, to a suspension, to an expulsion, or such other sanctions as are provided for in the Judicial Panel Protocol, to a combination of these penalties or such other penalty, sanction or condition as the Licensing Committee or the Judicial Panel (as the case may be) considers appropriate in order to deal justly with the case in question.”

Rangers’ administrators, Duff & Phelps, will continue their attempts to challenge the 12-month transfer embargo imposed on them by the SFA at the Court of Session in Edinburgh.

However, it has emerged that the SPL will also refuse to allow Rangers to sign any player as long as they remain in administration.

  16. If the rumours are true then I daresay we’ll find out soon enough.

And it might just explain one aspect of all this that I’ve found a bit of a puzzle from the start, namely why the tax tribunal was held in private.

For the time being though I’d be wary of too much speculation. It might suit Murray’s purposes at the moment to start outrageous rumours about what has been going on.

    ——-

‘A man was pulled over for speeding down the highway; the officer came to the driver’s window and said, “Sir, may I see your driver’s license and registration?” The man said, “Well officer I don’t have a license, it was taken away for a DUI.” The officer, in surprise, said,” What, do you have a registration for the vehicle?” So the man replied, “No sir, the car is not mine I stole it, but I am pretty sure I say a registration card in the glove box when I put the gun in it.” The officer stepped back, “There is a gun in the glove box?!?” The man sighed and said, “Yes sir, I used to kill the woman who owns the car before I stuffed her in the trunk.” The officer steps toward the back of the car and says,” Sir do not move, I am calling for backup.” The officer calls for backup and about ten minutes another highway patrolman arrives. He walks up to the window slowly and asks the man for his driver’s license and registration. The man said,” Yes officer here it right here.” It all checked out so the officer said,” Is there a gun in the glove box sir?” The man laughs and says,” No officer why would there be a gun in the glove box.” He opened the glove box and showed him that there was no gun. The second officer asked him to open the trunk because he had reason to believe that there was a body in it. The man agrees and opens the trunk, no dead body. The second officer says, “Sir I do not understand, the officer that pulled you over said that you did not have a license, the car was stolen, there was a gun in the glove box, and a dead body in the trunk.” The man looks the officer in the eyes and says, “Yeah and I’ll bet he said I was speeding too.”

  18. Top of the morning to you all from a scorching Fife.

The revelations about Sir David Murray’s relationship with the banks lead me to conclude that you can get anything in Scotland with the right handshake.

This was also the view of Lord James of Blackheath the company doctor who rescued the Millennium Dome when tasked by the government with examining the recent collapse of the Scottish banking system.

Lord James stated: “The Bank of Scotland loan book was awful,” and “It lent to anyone with a glass of whisky in his hand who was wearing a kilt.”

I believe his Lordship is using a euphemism to describe the sort of cronyism that most of us have experience in life where the rule-book goes out of the window where the brethren are concerned.
