Billy Dodds nails Rangers on tax

712

Billy Dodds, who was named by the BBC as a beneficiary of Rangers Employee Benefit Trust, wrote in today’s Sunday Herald on the subject.  He alleges Rangers paid him money, which should have been taxed as income, through an EBT.

Dodds wrote, “David Murray came to me and asked if I would receive a payment that was due to me, after tax, through the EBT trust.   And I said that I would.   It was money that was owing to me when I had six months left on my contract and I moved to Dundee United. After the tax was deducted, that money was put in the trust fund.”

What happened to the “tax… deducted” is the crucial question.  Dodds is clear.  This was money due to him through his contract of employment which should have been taxed.  The seriousness of the allegations against Rangers just cranked up a notch – and from a surprising source.

I would suggest green has stipulated that, if the signing embargo is not rescinded, he won’t proceed with the purchase, and that is why this course of action has been taken by D&P,….and that is why the bhun fans agreed to use their fighting fund….no sale, no club…… THE LAST DESPERATE ACT IN THIS LITTLE PANTOMIME….?

At least CORNERS are quantifiable. We know the exact number of corners which were awarded.

SHOTS ON TARGET are very often arguable. It’s often very hard to tell if a shot was on target when the keeper turns it over the bar or round the post. That method would cause more problems than it would solve.

I have always thought that CORNERS won is a better way of deciding a result than the penalty shoot-out.

Tonight’s absolutely staggering story that the SPL are now ignoring national association licensing criteria to wave Rangers through is surely the last straw here. What the Hell are our club doing behind the scenes?

The rules are now being shredded right in front of us. We are being told that what is in black and white, in the regulations, actually is not really a set of rules at all, but a set of suggestions, and that no club really has to follow them.

The SPL refused entry to clubs which didn’t have the right number of seats in their ground. Now they’re actually ignoring national association licensing regulations, and telling us a club can compete in the league , license of not?

This is a scandal in and of itself. This is a disgrace.

Our silence HAS TO END. No more of it. It’s time for get moving.

My take on it is that neither the SFA nor SPL want to be the ones seen as signing the huns death warrant and go down in history as such. To be doing so may sign their own death warrants in the non figurative way so they are hoping and waiting HMRC do it and do it soon. However, HMRC dont really care about next seasons SPL fixture list and like everyone else are in it for the money. They have all the time in the world and are probably waiting for more information from the gift that keeps on giving. I think Celtic are waiting till the SFA and SPL “stall beyond the pale” so that all 3 self destruct (huns SPL and SFA) Lets wait and see ..still got 3 weeks!

    We are sleepwalking towards the abyss. If a club called Rangers is in the SPL next season it will be the single most destructive event in the history of Scottish football. It is now beyond question that this “institution” has engaged in wrongdoing on an epochal scale. The only arguments being offered in their favour are these;

“Rangers contribute too much to the game … and are too big to fail.”

The press in Chicago once said similar things about a “local business”. It’s CEO was Al Capone.

That is what we are talking about here. If Scotland had a RICO Act the entire upper echelon of Rangers, along with half of the sporting authorities, would be headed for prison for engaging in a “continuing criminal enterprise.”

Did you buy a season ticket? Do you know what you got for your money? Do you know what kind of league you’ll be playing in? What kind of national structure will be overseeing it?

The evidence is all in, girl. There is a mountain of it. The people running our national sport are fundamentally corrupt. Our club has two choices; it either plays the game, and ignores the cesspit, or we make a stand.

There is no “middle ground” here. This has gone too far from that. Rangers behaviour has propelled the entire national sport to the edge of the abyss. The consequences of allowing them any leeway at all, with the vast reputational and commercial damage that will do, are too high a price to pay.

We cannot be part of this destroyed landscape. Our silence does us no favours, and allows the gangster mentality which is running this affair to carry on regardless. Every day, every revelation, does untold damage to every club in the land, because we are all seen as part of it.

If Rangers is in the SPL next season, it’s all over. There will be no way back.

I agree with you. If the huns are in the SPL next season as a Newco they can all go to hell. It will be a joke. It’s decision time for Celtic too. If I find out they have been in collusion in any way for a New Firm its the end of it. Celtic will then downsize to accomodate

  16. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon! on

    ‘crushed nuts?’ ‘Naw, Layringitis!’:

So you want to leave it to other clubs? Like Kilmarnock, presumably, who’s chairman thinks Rangers has suffered enough. Or Hearts, who are viewing it with a mind to jumping next if their debts are too high. Or like Dundee Utd, who are already talking about how financial necessity trumps sporting integrity. Or maybe you mean Inverness, who are fence sitting. Perhaps you want to leave it to poor old Ross County, newly promoted … one of who’s board members worked at Rangers and was paid by an EBT ….

They are not “finished” until they are dead, and they are not dead yet. If there is a sliver of life in them they will be back in the SPL next year.

Lastly, you are asking why OUR club should become involved?

WE ARE INVOLVED. The OF tag drags us into this, especially as we are being used as a human shield, with the Sky deal frequently cited as the “reason” for allowing them back in the league … a little like when the Chicago Tribune argued closing down Capone’s business empire would impact on local business ….

The entire national sport is being ripped apart. We are fence sitting.

It’s ante up time. We either fight, or go down with the ship. I think fence sitting, at a time like this, is the act of a coward. The integrity of our national game is being destroyed, and you think we should sit on the sidelines? Are we more than a club or not? Are we a social institution or not? Are we concerned with more than just our commercial activities or not? Do we not have a stake in what kind of national sporting environment we inhabit? Do we just look inward, and not care?

This disease will eat us from the outside in, if not from the inside out.

Don’t even kid yourself we can get by on silence any longer. We are now being told, by the SPL, that national licensing requirements do not apply. That is a step far beyond acceptability. Silence will no longer avail us.

It strikes me, given the lengths that SPL have gone to retain RFC.. They have played right in to Lawwell’s hands. Celtic can make any protest they like safe in the knowledge they will not be kicked out.. So important is the OF brand to SPL?

So if RFC secure SPL place with a substantially weakened team as is highly possible, Celtic could refuse to play them… Safe in the knowledge no remedial action will be taken against them. It is unlikely to affect SPL title race either..

That’s why CFC can wait…all options remain at their disposal.

For info from my post on rtc.

The CST have written to the SFA for clarification of the impact of not having a licence.

There is an ENTRY level requirement under National Club Licencing.

If a club cannot meet the entry level then you would assume the SFA would takes this to mean they cannot enter a competition, unless it is Rangers of course for whom current rules appear only to apply were the consequences are not fatal.

The idea that the process is not joined up currently but will have to be at some future date to make sure clubs cannot do what a Newco will be allowed to do now illustrates the total hypocrisy of the SPL policy regarding Newco.

The SPL interpretation begs the question what is the point of the SFA if a member club can ignore its rules with impunity?

It is because the SPL are not to be trusted that the CST wrote to the SFA.

    http://www.celtictrust.net/?func=d_home_article&id=373

If they endorse the SPL interpretation then the SFA are redundant as they have no power over SPL clubs. What is the point of a licensing system that can be ignored as suits? It makes a nonsense of football governance at a time when strong governance is required more than ever.
