Billy Dodds nails Rangers on tax

712

Billy Dodds, who was named by the BBC as a beneficiary of Rangers Employee Benefit Trust, wrote in today’s Sunday Herald on the subject.  He alleges Rangers paid him money, which should have been taxed as income, through an EBT.

Dodds wrote, “David Murray came to me and asked if I would receive a payment that was due to me, after tax, through the EBT trust.   And I said that I would.   It was money that was owing to me when I had six months left on my contract and I moved to Dundee United. After the tax was deducted, that money was put in the trust fund.”

What happened to the “tax… deducted” is the crucial question.  Dodds is clear.  This was money due to him through his contract of employment which should have been taxed.  The seriousness of the allegations against Rangers just cranked up a notch – and from a surprising source.

  1. Even though its Ramsay, that was a needless, reckless challenge by Sheringham.

  2. Greenjedi @ 20:30,

Too true – Louie Macari said it was all down to FC to coach, pick the team and do the interviews as he was just observing.

After we won he took the post match interviews ad basked in the glory.

We struggled against them in those days and the fact that LM wasn’t prepared to take control but was prepared to take the plaudits could have told you what was about to unfold.

Things are looking good for the Celts in Spain’s second division. Deportivo La Coruña are champions and Celta de Vigo only have to draw in the final game next week to take the second direct promotion spot.

The team that could still pip Celta is the Scottish priests’ and seminarians’ favourite, Real Valladolid.

Valladolid need to win next week at home to Guadalajara and pray that Celta lose. Otherwise it’s the play-offs for the men in violet. Aye, that’s right, violet. Have you got a problem with that?

  7. ElDiegoBhoy, cheers mate. Yes he was such a nice guy. Really down to earth just him & his mate from when they were at school together. He bought me a few bottles of Heineken, then they had to go as they had dinner booked somewhere. The good news is he LOVES Glasgow life and is totally amazed at the love and passion of the support. And he is staying! No intentions of going anywhere. Was telling him all about some of the big european nights at Celtic Park including the 4-3 win over Juve which I was fortunate enough to have been at. He was really interested to hear what they were like and is mad to get into the champs league this season.

Bundoran Bhoy, Oscar is doing great! We sent the little girl home today with the wifes brother as we are expecting Oscar to get out Tuesday or Wednesday. He should be safe enough to fly home by then, but he cant be near kids or pregnant women so we had to send her on. Missing her already, shes an amazing wee girl!! Got to spend some really good quality time with her while we’ve been here. Really going to miss that when we go back home :-(

  8. Just a tiny thought on Billy Dodds’ comment, maybe nothing, but does his admission that he was paid in lieu of his salary via an EBT not automatically invalidate his registration with the authorities? Is it just the amount that’s stated in the declaration of earnings or are you supposed to declare the source of the income too?

If it’s the latter then you don’t even need evidence of side letters etc. It’s already stated as fact by the recipient :)

    Hail Hail,

Recently. thanks to a CQN lurker who I recently had the priviledge to speak with, we raised £5k for the Vanessa Appeal for a cracking pic of Neil Lennon. The same artist is now selling a cracking wee pic of Gary Hooper. For me the CQN lurker deserves a wee bit of pay back. So if you like the pic, make a wee bid. It’s a cracker by the way!!!

Conspiracy theory……….Ramsay got ‘done’ by Sheringham on the orders of Fat Sally.

Why? Because 5 minutes previously he got in a spat with Paddy McGuiness……….the voice in advets for…….GREGGS.

    BBQ, few beers, all good.

Good to hear Billy Dodds has found openness and honesty.

Thank you for those very kind comments.

There is one other brother who lurks only, mostly from Turkey.

Murray’s decision to ban Celtic supporters from Ibrox was a result of “incidents” at the league game there in March 1992 when we beat them

    2-0 (Nicholas and Creaney).

The Sunday Mail’s back page the next day screamed “WRECKING CREW”

which at first glance I took to mean the impact we had had on their title hopes.

    Not so.

The photograph accompanying the headline showed of a section of a row of seating at the Celtic end lying a a 45 degree angle. As it turned out the seats were in the yellow section where I had been at the game. In fact the seats shown in the photograph had given way when Gerry Creaney scored the second goal.

Of course I knew that there was a bad habit of vandalising seats by some of bad elements in the Celtic support however in my experience it was not on an industrial scale.

However, the game chosen to put us in our place was in April 1994 and the decision was taken months before.

I actually wrote to Murray, in January 1994, and asked for an explanation of his drastic action and to confirm how many of the 7500 seats had been damaged..

In fairness, he replied 4 days later and I quote….

“typically we have found that up to 500 seats and several urinals is not uncommon for damage at these matches which o do not think that you can put solely down to high spirits.”

I also reminded him that Rangers increased the ticket price for the previous game (in October 93).

    He said they didn’t!”

    They did.

Anyway, “up to 500 seats” – he didn’t answer my question.

Being a regular attender I was determined to get to that game and I exhausted every contact to no avail.

Undaunted I went to Ibrox at around 12:00 that day and eventually managed to pick up a ticket, from The Dumfries Loyal I think , and watched the game from the Main Stand.

They were not amused when the wee plane flew over with the immortal words “Hail Hail The Celts Are Here.”

If Dodds only ebt payment was his pay-off when leaving, then he would have played no games while having an ebt. That is, if his ebt did not exist while he played for them, then he could not have played a game while having an ebt.
