Biton and the holding position

678

I was discussing Beram Kayal during the week, specifically how he was keeping Victor Wanyama out of the Celtic team before that ‘tackle’ from Rangers’ McCulloch put him out of action for months.  The player has never recovered his form but has never had a sustained run in the team either.

Nir Biton has made the holding position his own in recent weeks and, as a consequence, we’ve watched his form improve.  News that he picked up an injury when playing for Israel against Slovakia last week, which is likely to disrupt his appearances for weeks, has come at the worst possible time.  If he is to make this position his own, he needs performances between now and the end of the season.

Young players especially need games to reinforce their craft and build confidence, as well as to ensure fitness.

Just less than 24 hours until the Friday noon deadline for bids on bottle No. 1 of a limited edition (291 in total) of Craigallachie Telford’s Bridge, in a wooden box and presentation cardboard tube, whit an authentication certificate. The current highest bid stands at an incredible £425.

Many thanks to everyone who donated to Mary’s Meals via the MyDonate link. We are closing in on funding the second school kitchen, at St Joseph’s Primary School in Kasungu, Malawi. Incredible response, treat yourself if you are one of the donors. You can get involved here.

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches tomorrow (rumours suggest I might get my hands on mine today).

“”Claire, where is my passport?” I was frantic now as I pleaded with my wife. She must know I thought. Claire, my wife of twelve years, suffers my trips away to support Celtic without a single moan. Not this time though as Claire would not give me her blessing to go on this trip telling me that our bakery was now at critical point, busy and with too many European away days this year they had taken their toll.”

Ole alkie Winston was certainly no friend of the working classes, but some of his quotes were worth a chuckle…..

    Mind you,I should come clean.

    I`m a fan of Churchill.

  5. Macjay,

It depends on interpretation. Certainly, the West betrayed the East and allowed the fascist Communists to reign over the area. The West had its reasons though. It is difficult to comprehend that they trusted the Communists so much though; naturally, the Communists reneged on any notion of democracy.

We disagree on Kiev. One cannot dispute that there are fascists in the protest movement.

    Take care Macjay.

I don`t disagree in the slightest.

All I am saying is that it was not the fault of the BRITISH govt.

At Yalta,Britain had no power and no influence.

I have no clue about whether there are fascists in the protest movement in Kiev. So,I can`t express any opinion.

    I think Putin is a fascist,however.

    Crimea ……………..Russian speakers.

    Sudetenland………..German speakers.

  9. My interpretation is that the Soviets ,apart from being the ones who actually won the war more than any other, drove the nazis out of the eastern european countries and then held on to them as a buffer zone as much as anything. I think Russia lost something like 27million so they were gonna make sure that didnt happen again. The blame for the fate of the east europe should be laid at Hitlers door. Like wise the crimes against humanity that the Isrealis are now committing. It all goes back to the evil of one man.

Youve not been following the Ukraine situation closely then. The main body of violent rioters who were attacking the police day after day, week after week, were real bona fide facists with swastica armbands and armed with guns clubs and all-sorts. They have been rewarded by being given positions of power in the new so-called government. Its no wonder that the Russians are concerned by whats going on on their doorstep.

  12. Bamboo,

They did not hold those countries for that reason. You are being too kind to them.

Your logic about Hitler being to blame for the fate of the Eastern countries obviously has some resonance as that particular area suffered most of all. However, why did Hitler declare war on the Soviet Union? He hated Communists and Slavs. Had the Communists not existed then Hitler would not have been able to hate them. That sort of logic isn’t very useful in my opinion.

You highlighted Israel for some reason. I invite you to mention the Islamic fascists who cause chaos in the world: afterall they are mistreating people. Quite why people are so fixated on Israel I don’t know… It wouldn’t be would it? No surely not. Not after The horrors of The Holocaust and all that went before it.

  13. Timsinohio,

probably a wise decision re tonight.

  15. Bamboo,

Just to be clear, I am not saying that you are anti-Semitic. My point was general.

I am interested in your thoughts about Russia. Why do you take such an interest if I may ask? It is unusual to see a pro Russian poster.

Your use of the word fascist is indiscriminate to the point of incoherence.

  21. Bamboo, why the special attention for Israel? There is a lot of carnage in the world. Why Israel?

You mentioned Israel’s war crimes. When people blow up innocent people, do you also consider that to be a crime? These issues are never black and white. It is not difficult to swallow a neat and precise interpretation of such conflicts, but such interpretations are neat and precise for a reason: they are too simplistic.

Anyway, it was not my intention to post about this topic.

    Enjoy the CQNten time everybody,

Ernie, I can’t be bothered with you tonight. Go to sleep.

Our posts crossed. I just truly believe that in this case its not the Russians who are the bad guys. Ive heard many political analysts discussing this crisis and I come to my own conclusions. The Russians shouldnt be our enemies any more. They are now a capitalist country ,gradually reforming and yet the old cold war mentality is still coming from the west.
