Bizarre Leipzig

260

Leipzig are going through a period of remarkable results.  An 0-8 cup win against lower league opponents, then a 4-0 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt and a 1-4 home loss to Shakhtar that precipitated the start of new manager, Marco Rose.

Rose began with an impressive 3-0 win over Borussia Dortmund and a credible performance in Madrid before losing two late goals to Real.  Borussia Monchengladbach beat Leipzig 3-0 two weeks ago gave Rose lots to consider ahead of the international break, which they returned from with a 4-0 over bottom placed Bochum on Saturday.

I only watched the game against Monchengladbach but suspect it was one of a few bizarre results that did not reflect the flow of the game.  We should not be reassured by this period.

Your main point was also noted by myself. Definitely not the time or the correct context.

Really poor retort, especially if that was your best shot.

You are not addressing your pupils like the head of St Als.

I simply do not believe in ba censorship or exclusion and I may not agree with what is being said, but I will always defend the right to say it, providing its within the rules.

  4. Yes we have CCV out,big loss, but Leipzig have lost their two best midfielders, who won’t even be ready for any of the remaining games. We have a chance tonight for at least a draw.

No stupid normal European goals given away, please.

We have an issue — and I fear that you don’t have the emotional bandwidth to get involved.

At its best your viewpoint is schoolboy / right wing mentalist / libertarian pis*.

Even within the parameters of your own analysis you have come up short.

The free speech angle — OK lets try it.

Fair enough the comments could be said but it is then incumbent on you to call it out.

If you don’t call it out then you agree with it — is that fair?

    Rights and responsibilities.

If horrible accusations are made on here — then you have a choice.

You can slope on by or you can call it out. All based on the premise that you think such language is not fit for CQN discourse — which is open to some doubt.

So either you are lazy or you are complicit?

  6. Match on tonight.

Occasionally work, play and Celtic get in the way of policing the blog 24/7.

And, by the time I decipher your posts I’ve lost the impetus 😆

    Anyway, HH and COYBIG.

The floor is open to give us a Celtic related post that we can debate.

Questions are definitely getting tougher. :)

Just made the mistake of looking back in, and I see that a certain person is talking about amending offensive behaviour, OMG.

Anyway, Gary G THE QUIET MAN got both correct!

    How poignant are these words?

“EVERY MANAGER DIES a little during a game. I’d rather die in a dug-out than moulder away in a director’s box.” Jock Stein, speaking in 1978.

  10. “A great manager, my pal for years. a great man as well, with a heart of gold who’d give his last shilling. Aye, Stein, he’s the best.”

Who said that about Big Jock?

  11. GP,

I already have but here we go again :

    Tonight’s choices ?

    Abildgard in place of O’Riley?

    Maeda’s pace or Haksa’s trickery & technique ?

Kyogo’s off the shoulder movement or GG’s holding skills?

    Abandon playing from the back?

    What say ye folks ?

    The probables

    back line picks itself tonight

    Hart

    Jura….Welsh… Jenz….Taylor

    So does the midfield,

    O’Riley… MacGregor… Hatate

    Forward line

    Maeda ( or Haksabanovic)….Kyogo…Jota ?

Known injuries ( and Yom Kippur) limit the starting line up subs Turnbull and possibly Abildgaard will feature along with a rare unleashing for James Forrest?

Not expecting variations in format from AP we’re in season two and philosophy hasn’t altered a bit. Even if the Danish defensive midfielder was fit enough to start, I don’t think he would. If Celtic can do a Donetsk it could be a landmark, with two winnable games ahead.

    Yip!

  14. I’d like to think we would continue approaching every game in the same way. Alternative approaches are available but rarely work in these circumstances.

There’s an argument that we include a defensive mid to protect our third choice cb partnership but imo that means too much of a change, trying something for the first time in an important game. Our, relative, failures in the cl haven’t come from defending poorly, they have come from not taking our chances. Watch the Huns last night, they never gave themselves a chance of winning against a team who were vulnerable, if we change what we do we we’ll blunt our attacking options, which are always also our best defensive ones

We’ll probably be sat at 8 o’clock ruing missed chances again, but it’s better than the alternative imo.

Have to correct you there mate. It wasn’t Billy McNeill’s header in the 4-0 cup final.

Stand corrected….must be ’65 LCF yogi with 2 pens.Billy missed the ’64 LCF.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Sorry, Bhoys my bad question is to blame for the confusion. It was King Billy in the 1966: Rangers 0-0 Celtic, Scottish Cup Final and is just a header during the game as opposed to a goal being scored.

    Poor question on my part.

  16. BIG WAVY on 5TH OCTOBER 2022 12:05 PM

I’m not sure we have an alternative to playing from the back, who do we play it to if GG isn’t playing?

Liverpool we’re interesting last night, they did go long much more than anyone was expecting, and it worked; for all Darwin was getting pelters for his finishing he made some very intelligent runs and his hold up play was excellent. Liverpool missed out the midfield as well as passed through it. You could see the thinking behind their change of system, the Huns were too stupid and too rigid to stop them creating a load of space in the final 3rd even with 7 defensive players

The difference was clear when the Huns punted the ball forward hopefully and VVD pushed Morelos off the ball without even trying.

I think if we tried to play that way we’d get similar results.

I don’t think we need to change what we do, but just do it better. I’m hoping Jota turns up tonight, we need all our match winners to play well and he’s been a bit disappointing so far for me

  17. BOURNESOUPRECIPE on 5TH OCTOBER 2022 12:06 PM

    👍

Haksa for me, with him in the team we’re more likely take a couple of those early chances we create

I was at the 66 game and Billy hit the bar with a header. We lost the replay

  19. Darwin last night reminded me of Harald Brattback in his pomp. All intelligent movement, pace and sh*t finishing….

Young Guns 2-0 up in the Youth League – Vata and Letsosa scorers…

  21. BSR,

I’d drop O’Riley for the big Dane. Thought Matt struggled in Poland and would make us more solid.

But can understand the big deviation from our standard I am suggesting. Think we need a bit of pragmatism and this is the kind of game we brought Oliver for imho…

I had some knowledge of the Buapest question but could not have provided a precise answer so I am not going to claim credit here.

Another great history question from you as well as the multiplicity of photos to which you post links. Your contributions to this blog during a very barren time (football wise) is highly appreciated by me.
