Brendan delighted with window as Celtic business complete

691

Brendan Rodgers declared himself delighted with his first transfer window as Celtic manager, which is now over, after the additions of Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele, Dorus de Vries and Cristian Gamboa.

Toure, Dembele and Sinclair, the managers three primary targets, were acquired early, while de Vries and right back, Gamboa, were added recently. Deals went close to the wire today but the hoped-for midfield player (which was never James McCarthy) didn’t materialise.

A permanent deal for a (known around these parts) central defender to backfill Jozo Simunovic, who was wanted by Torino, couldn’t be tied up either, so Torino also look to have missed their target.

You’ll hear direct from the manager soon enough but he’s got the calibre of recruit he wanted – which he didn’t know would be possible three months ago.

There was never anything possible to make a formidable Champions League group look any easier, but we’ll compete at the top table, and we’ll wipe the floor with all-comers domestically.

More tomorrow.

I bet you envied my trip with the grand weans.

It’s one of the things I love here.

Not that I am allowed ice cream these days.

I still derive great pleasure from the kids’ enjoyment.

Because of recent controversy over the voraciously and some so called red(Huns) under the bed. New rules have now been applied.

  5. Let me make clear that this is not an attempt to impugn the integrity of our host.

I was struck by the inconsistency between the title of the article ” Brendan delighted with window” and part of the text about deals going down to the wire.

We failed to sell Simunovic, we failed to sell Efe, and we manifestly failed to sign an unidentified player that Brendan had intimated we needed some days ago. O.K. All of these may have been down to bad luck, Murphy’s Law, whatever, but it is counterintuitive to think that Brendan could have been “delighted” with the window, or at least the latter part of it.

Many on this blog identified a huge weakness in our midfield, at least as far back as the Sevco semi final. It is still there, as Iniesta and Silva await. And Brendan is not disappointed?

Agree, you are correct. However we did not spend any speculative money on “maybe make it” players, nor take short term loanees (but please buy Paddy Roberts in January ) . I think there is a long range plan now in place, which will yield long term success. We should continue to win in Scotland for several years…..we have the money, business acumen, and football management.

    Hail Hail

  7. Why would anyone think our frugal board would spend the required amount to sign Paddy?

History suggests the notion is pure fantasy.

  8. Well I for one am glad Trump has educated me. For years I’ve thought it was greedy wall St bankers that caused the financial austerity crisis. Now I know it was all the illegal immigrants. God, an they weren’t even there at the time. The bastards.

  9. Youll all be sorry when that mad bastardy got his finger on the big trigger.

I said last week that we should have had players lined up,only needing rubber-stamped depending on which competition we were in.

I was assured by our resident trusting types that football doesn’t work that way, board know best, etc

We guaranteed ourselves £30m a week ago,on top of virtual season ticket full house-and this buncha charlatans are ripping the piss.

Good enough for SPL,it will take a bloody miracle to make a dent in Europe with what PL has decreed is our lot.

Naw,I’m not bliddy happy about it.

It’s not the transfer window that annoys me. It’s the overall lack of vision and shambolic CL qualifying year in year out in conjunction with the OF mentality of the board. Celtic got lucky this year. Europe is where Zceltic belong and the couldn’t give s rats vagina about Europe except for the money of course

  12. MARGARET MCGILL on 1ST SEPTEMBER 2016 3:59 AM

Ye joost contradicted yersell there. If all the board want is money the money is in the CL , not even with the Huns newcomers in the app, worth 10 mill, if u believe alledged reports, bottom line, we got to win week in week out, to get to the gravy.

I work nights. Did you ever track down the posts where I jumped down your throat,or did that only happen during that sleep thing you mentioned?

  14. Rafa Nadal takes a 2 set lead under the roof and the lights of Arthur Ashe Stadium.

He hasn’t looked convincing this set with his first serve percentage below 50%.

Stepping was bageled first set but took Rafa to 7-5 in the second.

My batteries, iPad and personal are draining fast, so this HAPPY CLAPPER is off to sleep.

    Ride the wave with Brendan.

    Barney67

    Nah

    I didn’t

All they want is the money they don’t care where it comes from. If it’s all about the CL they’d make sure Celtic qualify. The only reason Celtic made it marginally this year unlike the previous failures is because the Huns are back so there’s a little more hunvestment involved.

Celtic PLC’s intransigence on making any waves in Scotland regarding SFA incompetence is because they wanted the Huns back
