Brendan delighted with window as Celtic business complete

691

Brendan Rodgers declared himself delighted with his first transfer window as Celtic manager, which is now over, after the additions of Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele, Dorus de Vries and Cristian Gamboa.

Toure, Dembele and Sinclair, the managers three primary targets, were acquired early, while de Vries and right back, Gamboa, were added recently. Deals went close to the wire today but the hoped-for midfield player (which was never James McCarthy) didn’t materialise.

A permanent deal for a (known around these parts) central defender to backfill Jozo Simunovic, who was wanted by Torino, couldn’t be tied up either, so Torino also look to have missed their target.

You’ll hear direct from the manager soon enough but he’s got the calibre of recruit he wanted – which he didn’t know would be possible three months ago.

There was never anything possible to make a formidable Champions League group look any easier, but we’ll compete at the top table, and we’ll wipe the floor with all-comers domestically.

More tomorrow.

  1. Margaret McGill on

Celtic PLC’s 3 year silence on res12 raised at one of their own AGM’s and is about losing out on major CL cash is because it’s detrimental to the OF

  2. Brendan – I asked ye to work on 3 players.

    1. James Forrest – Press the right buttons an we’ll have Celtic’s answer to Arren Robben….imho.

    2. Nadir Cifcti – Press the right buttons and we’ll have the Celtic answer to Big Mark McGhee in his Aberdeen days….imho.

    3. Efe Ambrose – Press the right buttons and we’ll have Celtic’s answer to YaYa Toure(Kolo’s brither).

Ye see, YaYa isny a defensive midfielder or, an attacking mf, he’s an all round mf. But, but, but, but……most important of all, and this is where folk lose perspective, a defensive mf is like, NL, P. Lambert, etc….who’s main objective is to break up attacks and, protect the defense behind them. What Yaya does,…..sorry, what Efe does is, give a more composed, difficult to dispossess, strictly didsciplined, keep the ball moving ‘forward’ type of performance and, crucially….he would be playing in his best position….imho.

So, Brendan, you’ve sprinkled some of yer magic dust onto player 1. James Forrest who looks transformed under your watch.

Now, do it with the other two.

You know they’ve got the stuff and, you know how to let them produce it on the pitch.

    Just do it!

Also, James McArthy was ROI’s worst player at the Euro’s – kept giving the ball away – that’s what Efe wulny do….imho.

John Collins, whom I think would have brought more Celtic-Cuteness to the table than BR has, said last week that, Celtic would need players who would be brave and, keep hold of the ball – he’s right…imho.

Being brave dizny mean being like Broony and, trying to kid-on yer a hard man, leaning with his waiting to be skelped chin and, giving ‘cheap’ fouls away like he did with, Neymar at CP a couple of years ago when, Broony put his own little needle on the pitch in front of, the importance of the team when he got sent of for having 3 goes at Neymar to pull him down….not, Celtic-Cute enough….imho.

Big Efe dizny look, Celtic-Cute cause, bad managers play him out of position and he gets caught out. Brendan played Big Efe out of position in the recent friendly vs Barcelona and, he got caught out again. Be interesting to see if, Brendan learns from that or, has Brendan ‘wrongly’ dumped Big Efe out of the team cause, Brendan mis-managed Big Efe ?

I said last season that if, Ronny played any of the 3 midfielders….

    Calum McGregor

    Tom Rogic

    Nir Bitton

…against the huns in the SCSF – the huns would win.

Ronny played all 3 and, well,….yeez know the rest.

Anyway, a lot of fans feeling let down by the PLC-Hierarchy at the transfer window dealings ?

    Well, it’s like this……

    The Kelly’s & White’s

They will always let you down for as long as you remain outside the club that you saved by all yer, share-issue subscriptions since, 1994 when we were all told that when, Fergus’s 5 year period was up, Celtic supporters would own they’re club.

Well, old firm orientated Fergus took us for mugs and, jumped onto the plane back to Canada with £40 million of Celtic supporters money, handed the keys to his shady pal, DD and he looked us oot as well.

Folk talk about the huns and, the big lie.

    Oh yeah ?

    Well, what about us ?

The Celtic Football And Athletic Company…

    …became,

    The Celtic Football Club.

The one constant – Celtic fans put all the money in and, get locked outside.

Change that dynamic, then wipe away the tears.

    Celtic FC…..

A Club founded by underdogs, supported by underdogs.

  5. Lawwell being blamed for “failing to sell Efe” just about sums up the futility of trying to debate with the old-firm obsessed miseries.

I hear Xavi is in the Celt Well having a last sangria before going to bed tearful.

It was close. Very close until he split that pinky finger nail and Pedro’s medical team flew out to give a second opinion on his fitness.

Peter’s bonus looks very cuticle again.

Brendan jumped over the moon but initial reports of happiness being the cause may have been misleading.

Good luck Brendan. You are going to need it to gel our midfield into something that can cope with teams a wee bitty better than Imps and Zionists.

At the hootenanny,we should take the money for the rounds off the happyclappers and bring them back a pint and a box of straws.

  8. BMCUWP

First, let me put pin holes up the sides of the straws. It’ll be the best pint they all ever had. As long as we say Peyer bought it for them.

    MWD

PS I’m generally more happy with this current Timdom than I have been for a few years but when we have failed to secure the positions that required upgrades, it is folly to pretend to clap happily. It’s now down to Brendan to work his magic with a less than convincing unit.

Your not kidding, we could have bought a guy on the last day for 2 million, never gave him a game and then sold him for a million a year later, Oh…… wait a minute! Some on here would still have tried to spin it as a success story.

  16. Marrakesh Express on

A right mixed bag of opinions since the window shut. Yes we did need a midfielder and yes it looks like PL watching the pennies again and yes we can’t get dragged into the epl madness (McCarthy). However, all that matters is every Tim getting behind and trusting BR, the man who brought back 20k fans and the thunder, brought back the feelgood factor missing since 2004, put the fear of God into the Zombies who btw will pull your arm off for a 1-0 defeat next week, and all in four short months. The bigger picture looks very decent. Embrace it.

  24. Dear Mr Lawwell,

I told you, but would you listen?

I said that once you got Cristiano to agree to join, you must leave it under wraps until the final hours of the transfer window. That way, if your final target blows you out, you simply announce the capture of Cristiano Gamboa.

You’d still have signed the same 5 players in the window, plus a pre-contract, but the miseries would be happy, because you delivered on the last day of the window. Job done.

You’ll remember my cunning plan the next time won’t you?
