Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

A few have mentioned this appointment along the lines of MON, I sort of look on it a different way Martin was a massive appointment and backed with cash to beat the cheats, I think this appointment is even more bolder because we are not chasing, we are miles in front of anybody in this country (any team can win a penalty shoot out) the appointment of BR shows our owner doesn’t like too lose……maybe as a businessman he might have wanted a team from the south side of Glasgow in the same league but in my opinion, not as an owner but as a Celtic fan he wants to hammer them……..the peas pack had it easy with Ronny they will be shit scared of BR

Firstly, absolutely delighted with the news about Brendan. It has given me a lift in what has been a really difficult week for me, healthwise, nothing terminal though.

SYDNEYTIM. Further to earlier about Glasgow Uni bus.

I travelled to Dortmund in 1987 with the uni bus, it was only the second time I was on it. The trip was a two night stay. Find your own accommodation when you get there, no trip advisor in those days. In case you ever wondered, me and my three friends made it home eventually. I was one of the 4 guys who missed the bus home!!!!. We found accommodation in Theos a magic place where every one was so welcoming, seriously even a German ex Pow insisted we take a drink off him. The only problem was we stayed up until 5 both nights. No one seemed to go home in this bar, or maybe that was just us and the staff. Anyway we were awakened at 8 as requested, as we had to be at the square beside the train station for 8.30, 9 at very latest, bus couldn’t wait any longer or it would miss connection for Ferry at Ostende. We sorted ourselves and phoned a taxi, the only problem was it was like trying to get from Shawlands to George Sq in peak hour traffic, we were going nowhere fast. We finally arrived in the Dortmund Square at 9.10 , the bus had gone, as we were still drunk at first we thought it was funny until reality kicked in. Thankfully one sensible person, not me, had a credit card. We had to go by train from Dortmund to Cologne, then another train from there to Ostende, we then got the hovercraft to Dover, hoping to catch up with the uni bus. Hovercraft not great with a hangover. Needless to say we just missed the uni bus at Dover. We then had to get a bus from Dover to London. All the buses for Scotland left Victoria at 10.30 we got there about 10.25 Glasgow bus was full.Edinburgh bus wouldn’t let us on as we didn’t have tickets which was a tad unreasonable. Just as we were giving up hope and thinking we would be sleeping rough, credit card was now maxed to the limit, we just had enough cash for bus fare home, the Dundee bus driver let us on for a cash donation!!!!! he dropped us off in Coatbridge and we got a taxi home from there. It cost us twice as much to get home as the uni bus was charging return. Great memories Dortmund is a truly fabulous city. Hail Hail

    Jeff was indeed a character.

When we stopped in Birmingham on the way to Amsterdam, one of the locals asked Jeff if he was cold walking about in our strip.

The bold Harris replied, I’m never cold when I have the holy colours on.

    Sydneytim.

Thanks it was. It was seriously difficult to get digs, as there was some kind of festival on and due to English hooliganism at the time, a lot of places weren’t interested, thankfully we had teamed up with a guy from Munich, originally from Glasgow, who spoke German, he explained that we were Scottish.

The day of the game one of the German guys wife arranged to meet us at 10.00!!! to give us a tour of Dortmund, again we were late, but she had waited on us. Now think about that imagine 4 German fans here for the football, you’ve only just met these guys in a pub, you’re at work the next day and your wife agrees to meet these guys alone. I don’t think too many guys here would be comfortable with that. That just one example of Dortmund and its great hospitality.
