Brendan Rodgers appointed Celtic manager

1136

Brendan Rodgers today became the 18th manager in Celtic’s history. Rodgers, 43, managed Liverpool for three years until October, after guiding Swansea to the English (and Welsh) Premier League in 2011. He previously managed Reading and Watford.

His appointment is unquestionably the most popular since the arrival of fellow Irishman, Martin O’Neill, 16 years ago. Known for his belief in playing attacking, possession-based football, he will bring a force of personality to the club and to Scottish football.

Rodgers occupied the top position on Celtic’s wanted list at the start of the month, but the desire to sign him up was tempered by the belief that attracting a manager of such a profile to Scotland would be difficult. My understanding is that as soon as talks got underway in earnest, it was clear neither party would let the opportunity slip away.

I’m delighted at the appointment. The club already feels reinvigorated.

Welcome to Celtic, Brendan. Let’s get on with the job.

Fantastic news, great weekend for us now! Mind you regardless of how good a manager he is its a tall order to expect CL Qualification with him just in the door, we may have to cut him some slack with that one.

Brendan Rodgers admitted that the challenge of pitting his wits against Mark Warburton was a daunting one but one that he would look forward to with a mixture of trepidation and excitement.

    Brendan Rodgers exceeds my expectations.

We can unite around this appointment as it shows that the Board has realised that we needed such an appointment and has stepped up to the mark.

    Well done to Dermot.

  18. I was curious amd hopeful when Ronnie joined us. I was cautiously optimistic when Lenny signed up as manager, fairly confident with Strachan, doubtful about Mowbray, thrilled with MON.

    With Brendan? Excited.

More from his Swansea days because this gig is more like that budget wise (relatively speaking) with the Big Club requirements he had at Liverpool.

I’m really happy with this appointment. Hoping too that, as with most managers, he will have a couple of good early signings of guys he knows from other clubs and has worked with.

A bit of pace and experience in the team, a right back and a striker and we’ll be on the right road.

  19. Absolutely delighted at the news.

Been wishing this since Ronny announced he would be leaving.

Renewed ST today at 1230! Decided Friday was the better option and less queues than tomorrow! That was before BR signing . Never worried about who was manager before so not relevant to me. However, genuinely excited about this manager. Thought it was pie in the sky stuff…. Will thank DD from Dublin no Clydebank when I speak to him at the Open!!!

  23. Long long time since I felt so emotional about anything Celtic related.

Huge kudos to Dermot Desmond on this. Shows an ambition that I thought had gone.

Been quick to criticise DD so he deserves enormous thanks on this.

Early days, but I truly sense the start of something major, to add to our illustrious and unparalleled success.

As I’ve said, a well managed and motivated Celtic, fully backed by our support, is a challenge that very few teams can overcome.

Big appointment was needed. We got it, and more.

  24. Celtic appoint epl flop headlines being prepared by mssm.

The stench of fear from them will be palpable.

Great end to the week and timing suggests someone in power at Celtic park has had enough of the bigots running the sfa and mssm.

Lets hope we continue the beating all next week and the entire next season.

  25. Absolutely delighted with news. Was out this afternoon celebrating Mrs. corkcelt’s birthday, Home now, can of Magners just popped open, think celebrations might go on quite a bit longer.

I am well aware of what your saying . And you are correct . I am aiming for the guys with loaded questions aimed at our manager and players . How often have we seen this . How often have we wished for the rat pack to be put in there place . Brendan Rodgers will be intelligent enough to Handle them , unfortunately some players are not . Just something else I would like to see improved upon at our club . Keep them out of celtic park , good enough for me .
