CELTIC FACE ICELANDIC CHAMPS

1

CELTIC have been drawn against KR Reykjavik in the Champions League first qualifying round.

The one-off fixture against the Icelandic aces will be played either a week on Tuesday, August 18 or the following day.

Neil Lennon’s side came out of the draw first which should mean the match should be played at Parkhead, which was the wish of the Hoops gaffer before the ballot in Nyon this morning.

But the club say the venue is still to be confirmed with coronavirus quarantine restrictions meaning it could be played at a neutral venue.

The champions will make an announcement as swiftly as possible.

Lennon had said, as reported in CQN: “We’ll see what the draw brings. Hopefully, it will be one we can negotiate well.

“It would be great to get the home draw. The
familiarity with the home draw and the environment – fingers crossed that in a one-legger we get that.”

The Hoops will learn their possible second round rivals tomorrow in another ballot whhich will also be held in Nyon with another 11am start.

The second round qualifier is scheduled for August 25/26.

The third round ballot will be made on August 31 and ties are due on September 15/16 while the outcome of the two-legged play-off will be known on September 1 with first leg ties scheduled for September 22/23 and the return on September 29/30.
