We have seen a lot of Norwegian opposition in the last six years. Who can forget the defeats home and away at the hands of Molde in 2015? The away game provided an iconic image for the limits to Ronny Deila’s Celtic.
After a goalless home leg against Rosenborg in 2017, we won the away leg 0-1 thanks to a James Forrest goal. A year later the same opponents took the lead in the first leg at Celtic Park before Odsonne Edouard (2) and Olivier Ntcham gave Celtic the advantage, the return ended 0-0.
Three months after that Champions League qualifier, we met Rosenborg again in the Europa group stage, winning 1-0 in both Glasgow and Trondheim. Rosenborg fans probably have a nervous twitch at the mention of Celtic, but although we bettered them across the three ties, each game was tight.
Bodo/Glimt are Norwegian champions for the second season running. They put their forward slash on the map in two remarkable Europa Conference games against Jose Mourinho’s Roma, winning 6-1 in Bodo and earning a 2-2 draw in Rome – Roma equalised with 6 minutes remaining.
Right now, Bodo/Glimt would fancy their chances against Celtic. This could change by the time the teams meet on 17 February. That game is four weeks before the Norwegian league season is due to start. Notwithstanding our injury peculiarities, Celtic players will be at peak fitness, Bodo/Glimt’s will be two months without a competitive game.
Glimt also have the curse of the successful small club to deal with. Their squad is vulnerable to more resourceful clubs, and there are hundreds of more resourceful clubs in Europe than Glimt. The team they deploy in 2022 could be quite different than this season’s draft.
Ignoring their preseason status and other difficulties, this is a tie Celtic should have more than enough in the tank to win. Football is hard against vastly more resourceful teams, so when it comes to Ross County, Hibs and Bodo/Glimt – who attracted 5,652 fans to the Roma game, we have to get the job done. Mourinho is rubbish too, so big deal.

we should practise for achieving such an outcome by trying to take a 3 goal home lead against teams like livingston, motherwell, dundee united etc
.

bold statement
I would rather we concentrate on prioritising the League.
D :)
A Norwegian side not yet out of winter hibernation sounds good on paper, however games are…….etc etc.
Anyway our focus is elsewhere, there is no comparison between The Europa Conference and the Scottish Premiership this season.
Tomorrow we turn to the Highlands, knowing that we have been undone more than once there before……everything is crossed.

Indeed!!!
One game at a time – let’s make sure we win against Ross county first

Yes, totally agree.
Clubs like Molde or Rosenburg or Bodo/Glimt come and go, or should that be wax and wane?
Whatever
Celtic feature regularly in Europe – not necessarily because we are the “form” team but because our resources dewarf our domestic opposition.
It’s about time we become a “form” team again and yes, get the job done, and create a wave in Europe – the conference is our level at the moment but it’s relatively lowly status should not prevent us from using it as a launch pad for the famous Glasgow Celtic to shine once again in Europe.

POR CIERTO @ 12:02 PM,
Yes, a tricky away tie for a number of reasons – think being a home for the second leg would have been a big advantage.
Still, we are where we are and the Norwegians travel well.
So getting the job done is priority!!

I’m sure you realise that’s their intention.
DAVID66 @ 12:15 PM,
Well, I know where you are coming from but with all due respect we are going to be first or second in the league.
We’ve won it fifteen times already this Century. We also showed that we can dominate the domestic Cups.
It’s about time we showed some real ambition and done something in Europe.
Hail Hail
I hope that by the time this tie comes around, our season won’t be based on Cup runs. Huge couple of weeks ahead with no room for error.
Agreed Pablo.
We faced similar with FC Copenhagen 2 years ago.
We caught them cold in 1st leg away but couldn’t finish them off when we should have.
The high fives for securing a score draw away from home were misplaced. We had a chance and we blew him.
First leg in Glasgow.
Hit them hard and early.
Noticed the talk on previous thread about possible shut down of football.
Sevco have 3 home games upcoming.
We host Hibs on 29 December.
I predict the Scorrish Government will announce next week a lockdown starting 28 December.

All things being well,we should have a full squad by the time these games come up.Counting on the new arrivals.A wee January break for the players, although it looks like there might not be a wee Sunny weeks break.Still we should be in much better shape,God willing.Covid could still play a big part. Its already happening in Engerlund,so expect it in Scotland.
Get your boosters. Please,do not listen to the naysayers.80% in Hospitals at the moment, have had no jabs.Keep your chances good.Onwards to the Highlands.

Footballer Charlie Adam arrested on suspicion of drink-driving
Dundee FC captain Charlie Adam has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged drink-driving incident in the city.
The incident took place on the Dundee to Broughty Ferry Road at about 04:25 on Monday.
Police said a 36-year-old man had been arrested and charged with a road traffic offence in Dundee Road West.
Dundee FC told BBC Scotland it was aware of the incident but would not be making any further comment.
The midfielder is a former Liverpool, Rangers and Scotland player.
He misses out on Tuesday night’s game against Hibernian as the club awaits the results of a scan on the injury that forced him off in Saturday’s 3-2 defeat by Ross County.

Court issues warrant for ex-Celtic player Islam Feruz
Published8 June 2016

A warrant has been issued for former Celtic footballer Islam Feruz after he failed to turn up for a court appearance in Glasgow.
The 20-year-old had been due to go on trial for allegedly driving an £80,000 Porsche while banned.
He has also been accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice and driving without insurance.
At Glasgow’s Justice of the Peace Court, it was said Mr Feruz was in training in Tanzania.
Sheriff Frances McCartney issued a warrant for his arrest.
The Somalia-born player joined Celtic as a 10-year-old. The club had successfully campaigned for him and his family to be allowed to stay in Scotland.
He moved to Chelsea six years later and has had loan spells with a number of clubs, including Hibs.

You are right – there is no room for error…..now if we had done our job against Livingston(×2) – we could have afforded a slip-up – injury-ravaged teams often do.

The European game can be put on the back burner for the time being. Lots can happen between now and mid Feb. And probably will.
If the pitch is in good nick, and the Dingwall weather behaves itself, Celtic’s quality should be sufficient to see off Ross County. Would bring back Ralston and play Juranovic ahead of him.
Ernie Lynch,
Your “Compare and contrast ” post about the driving offences.Just what are you comparing?Nothing at all similar in the cases.
Forecast for the Ross County game, not bad at all.Weather very good for this time of year.Well so Big Judith said.

It’s the nature of the reporting I’m referring to.
In particular how the two accused are described.

We can’t know for sure why he used the inverted commas sign when talking about ‘Rangers’, unless he comes out and explains his reasoning. But I am speculating here that as a German he too does not think that a club can dump their vast debt and then start again, pretending to be the same club. You certainly wouldn’t get away with that in Germany with a real FFP system in place and fan ownership model. Look at the protests against the Red Bull franchise!
Happy Birthday to Hot Smoked with many more to come.
Celtic need to negotiate another game without a recognised striker on the road to the crunch on 2nd Jan.

As your favourite blogger Ernie has suggested, it was the selective manner of reporting on the PLAYERS that is the issue with our media. If, as a player, they leave anything called ‘Rangers’ and they do something good/or positive at some time in the future, the player concerned will be likely referred to as “ex-Rangers”. If, however, as in the case of the Dundee Fat Man, he does something that society may see as heinous then no mention of the Glasgow South Side club is countenanced.
Contrast that with the report referred to above, instancing Islam Feruz. Typically if an ex-Celtic player is guilty of anti-social behaviour he will be forever an “ex-Celt” and referred to as such first and foremost, no matter the time-distance between his Parkhead exit and the occasion of his anti-social behaviour.. Contrary to that, of course, if there is something positive to report about a former Celtic player then the likelihood of his Celtic Park connection being mentioned is very unlikely. T’was ever thus!
