Celtic midfield problems

645

Neil Lennon accepted responsibility for the tactical decision to start yesterday’s game with three at the back, saying, “We thought the three would suit us, but that didn’t seem to be the case. We looked a little bit flat the first 10-15 minutes and I don’t know why.”

Hibernian scored during this period, which may or may not have been a result of the defensive line-up, but if anything, Celtic were even flatter after they went to four at the back.  The game was a throwback to the days when Gordon Strachan’s teams worked hard but seldom inspired.

The midfield didn’t dominate enough of the ball to prevent Hibs creating several good chances and was unable to craft a clear-enough opening.  With Charlie Mulgrew on the field we are always dangerous, and Kris Commons has a better sense of where the goal is than anyone at the club, but without them we grasp to Paddy McCourt, who only seems to get the call when we’re in trouble.

So where do we need to strengthen next month……………?

Belgium has better beer and better chocolates – but France has the best food and the best burdz.

Is that just lazy journalism or do you have facts to back it up. Especially the claim about the “birds”.

  3. luxcelt- A bit like the discussion on here last night- should we continue to invest heavily in the youth academy or follow the Udinese model and have top class spies all over the world and align our business primarily in player trading?

    Experience dear Bhoy – experience…

  5. I think it would be folly to tinker with a defence that has been at the heart of the great results we got this season. That was the mistake against Hibs .Taking Ambrose and Lustig out of the back 4 upset our system. Now theres talk of another CB . I dont understand this.

to my mind we got plenty of defenders who are flexable enough to play every defensive position. An attacking creative mid-fielder would help us though if Paddy is going to be ignored.

I asked this yesterday but no one answered – who was racially abused and what happened?

Don`t know if anyones answered yet, bud, but Efe Ambrose was apparently getting monkey chants and booing from the Dundee fans. I was at the game but couldn`t hear it as I was cowering in one of the nuclear bunkers as bombs, bullets, urine, grass, Charlie not Mulgrew, Buckfast bottles, stiocks, stones, hand grenades and probably Mars bars with nails in them were flying all over the place, in front of wimmin including grannies and 2 yr old weans. And said monkey chants would have been drowned out by IRA songs. Fortunately there were a couple of good goals from us, or the negativity would have been unbearable in the MSM. And it was all Paddy McCourts fault.

Football is really gentrified these days…

Disappointing if big Efe was racially abused – I heard some booing on the telly, but I couldn’t hear any monkey noises.

The main protagonist of the MSM for the Dundee game, the publication who branded Celtic fans a disgrace, saw its Sunday sister paper burn and crash in 2012, its editors and Hacks being arrested………… yep they certainly are experts in being a disgrace

Aye, and don’t forget about the ‘four’ rebels that were incarcerated for causing the worst mayhem in 20 years.

Did we ever find out why Celtic felt it necessary to go public, or do we already know we

were doing some embarrassingly unneccesary ‘forelock tugging’

Heavy drinking first thing in the morning is generally a bad idea – especially at this time of the year.

    – unfortunately most of the Belgian national squad are already at big clubs. Zenit, Porto, Benfica, Ajax,, bayern, epl sides etc. therefore most are already on big money. Owunjimi was the guy who stood out last window, as he was at standaard (and had been on loan from mallorca i think) and we were allegedly looking closely at him. The other guy was a fringe player (defender) – i forget his name but he was playing in Holland (for roda, or heerenveen i think) and although he wasn’tz capped, he had sat on the belgian bench. We were linked with him too in the last window, but again i forget his name. there may be some young players available, but most of the national squad would unfortunately be unaffordable.

there are however some good quality foreign nationals playing in belgium, who could be attracted (a bit like Gershon for example).
