Celtic, or Wales, against the world

597

I read Wales defender Connor Roberts say “99% of the world” will support Denmark in their last 16 tie tomorrow and thought- the underdog, fighting against the crowd.  99% of the world will not support Denmark, not me, for a start, but the ‘us against the world’ narrative is one of my favourites.

As a rallying call, it is surely more effective than the alternative.  Today’s footballer is an immensely well catered for athlete, apart from his 90 minutes on the park and (relatively few) hours on the training field, he will struggle for little.  What does he have to fight against, if not perceived ranks of people wanting him to lose?

Beaten, humiliated in Europe, trophy-less, written-off by many among our own, singled-out by the Government.  Ange Postecoglou will not have to work hard to convince the players is really is them against the world.  This squad really does have plenty to fight against.

`I think we should all club our vouchers `…..and buy a player.

Now there`s an idea ! Who can we get for two and a half million?

Of course, every subscribing supporter must be allowed a say in said player so this venture might take a wee while :-)

  3. Arrangements for Voucher Donations

    17th June 2021 CST Admin 0 Comments

Following the announcement by Celtic that it was going to give vouchers to last year’s season ticket holders by way of ‘added value’ we enquired with them as to whether we could collect these and donate them to causes close to the hearts of Celtic supporters. We have gauged the numbers who would be willing to donate the vouchers and have liaised with a number of local charities working with children and young people to see if they would be able to use them. We are now in a position to explain the arrangements. We have been in touch with 5 local groups (two youth clubs in the south and the east end of the city, a gaelic sports club, an east end primary school and a charity which helps refugees). We are very happy to consider other groups if enough vouchers are collected. All vouchers will be distributed to the groups and to others if possible. We will give a full account at the end of the process of how many vouchers were distributed.

This is a great opportunity to turn what many Celtic supporters felt was a very disappointing decision by the Celtic Board into a very positive outcome for some young people in our city who might not otherwise be able to afford the items these vouchers can buy.

  5. A friend of mine said today that smaller nations have a chance of progressing if they have at least 2 world class creative players. The way the tournament is panning out I have to agree. When you look at the Czechs, Croatians, even the Welsh, have all progressed from the group stages based by and large on that premise.

Scotland also have 2 world class creative players (Tierney/Robertson) but the problem being they play in the same position

  6. In Scotlands case it’s a case of that old Medicine Head song

  7. I find the comments on the Ange and Dom Press Conference interesting.

Most posts were positive and reflected encouraging hopes of success.

This is pretty much the opposite of so many posts on CQN over recent week/months.

    The reason for this difference?

I would say it is that much of the negativity was based on guesswork and assumption whereas the positivity came from listening to words from the horse`s mouth.

  10. I am happy to see the Oranjee Dutch Mob getting GUBBED.

Well done the Czech Rep. I again took young Patrik Schick for the 1st goalscorer with the Bookie…only for that Dutch Captain to deny him a clear run in at at goal, which led to the Oranjee boy seeing RED, when it was 0-0.

Even better to see that Glakit looking Frankie De Boer being a loser yet again. Maybe the Dutch FA will sack the Oranjee Chump ?

I must assume that many Huns would have bet money on the Dutch with the Bookies…they have ALSO Lost out

    LOL

  11. Joao Palhinha came on as a sub for Portugal the other night and I thought he changed the game.

He’s starting tonight and is worth watching.

He plays for Sporting and the reason I’m saying this is I hope Dom n Ange are reading this and throw in a cheeky bud for him.

He’d kick ass in our tin pot league.

I’m guessing a €10m bud would seal the deal

    I can dream

What are they going to do with vouchers for merchandise ?

    Not asked –

Do we have a war chest?

Is it dependent on player sales?

Have we identified targets we are pursuing?

I remember sitting in the dinner hall on a Tuesday at 1.00pm, listening to someones tranny to see what was No 1 in ye olde charts

You always wanted Slade, T Rex or Bowie with some upbeat song to get you through the afternoon

When Med Head we’re pronounced No 1 a pal just made it to the toilets on time to cut me down from the noose I had stuck up.

Nothing worse than a dirge to get you through the day

Saying that, I’m feeling quite nostalgic now

If the €10m euro bud for Palhinha dosentyentice them, offer a straight swap deal for Mikey Johnston

Seemingly Murrayfield ran out of alcohol and had to shut bars early. Lol.

But what it does show is the demand. Why should football fans be discriminated against. Citing historic events is no excuse for blatant discrimination.

*nae need for historic events, George Square x 2 is close enough. I’ve been fortunate enough tae have a drink at Parkheid due tae the SB I had access tae, really civilized and enjoyable but how could you legislate for that nutty mob that follow follows them, they had the lap of honour banned as well as alcohol prohibition due tae them losing tae us, 56 and 41 year ago respectively and they have never learned, animals.

I don’t like that a CEO gets to deliver a 10 year plan, as much as PL delivered his owners objectives, he got 10 years too long in the seat, and financial rewards way beyond any similar enterprise.

*Most big organisations that I’ve been involved with have 20/25 year long term plans that are looked at every 5 years. If that’s the case here then we’re on the right track.
