Celtic, or Wales, against the world

597

I read Wales defender Connor Roberts say “99% of the world” will support Denmark in their last 16 tie tomorrow and thought- the underdog, fighting against the crowd.  99% of the world will not support Denmark, not me, for a start, but the ‘us against the world’ narrative is one of my favourites.

As a rallying call, it is surely more effective than the alternative.  Today’s footballer is an immensely well catered for athlete, apart from his 90 minutes on the park and (relatively few) hours on the training field, he will struggle for little.  What does he have to fight against, if not perceived ranks of people wanting him to lose?

Beaten, humiliated in Europe, trophy-less, written-off by many among our own, singled-out by the Government.  Ange Postecoglou will not have to work hard to convince the players is really is them against the world.  This squad really does have plenty to fight against.

    Agreed

I also think even if successful, a managers life span with one club is 5 years

    You have to evolve

  2. Shit

When Pahninha came on the other night he played as a No 10

Toni the looks like a defensive mid

  3. “Ronaldo screamed like a gimp in the last game”????

Looking at Callum’s brilliant form in the Euros tells me Lennon was the problem last season. I think we could win the title back next season with largely the same players, plus a few good signings and one or two departures.

Good players don’t become bad players overnight. Free from whatever held them back with Lennon at the helm, and with the new manager giving them a fresh impetus, I would expect a vast improvement in the players from the off.

*fully concur Tom; I would include our coaches here who looked totally scunnered on the sideline while the manager was lying back on his seat like a beached whale.

Problem now is, unless Ange gets a coaching team who will back him up he’ll have an uphill struggle to get rid of the malaise

31003-I have to admit I liked him on a question of sport. It was only when he went back to them that I took a dislike to the cant

*never liked him after I heard about the back of the kebab shop incident with his fellow travelers and a young Celtic supporter.

Fell out with my da over him on a visit hame, said he was a nice guy, my mother even agreed and to make matters worse Mrs TT chipped in with him being so good looking, she wisnae saying that a week or so ago when she saw a recent photies of him online, said he looked like a tramp.

*you trying tae intimidate me lol.

  7. Phew

Just totted up the combined transfer fees of the players on the park.

    If you’re interested…..the total cost is……

    …..£47.5 zillion

  8. Anyone else a little bored with Euros? Very defensive 9-10 men behind the ball – 5 at the back one up front – ffs teams are even playing with a false 9??? Wtf?? Naw forwards??

Oh for the days of 4-2, 5-3 – goals seem like a premium these days – organisation and closing the spaces are replacing strikers, wingers, centre forwards 2/3 up front.

Game is getting smothered and good attacking players have no room to play- limited chances, limited goals, limited entertainment leading to limited interest.

Thought – what you talking about – then realised I’d paused it for 2 mins before game started 😨

    Cracking strike

A good friend is going to balloch later this week.same hotel 😉

    *which one is that

  11. A few years back Ian Wright was on the panel during an English World cup game.

England, as usual, got pumped (might have been Croatia)

    Any way

Cue Gary Lineker, “Ok Ian, what about that?”

“Don’t want to talk about it” says the bold Ian….and he never….for the remaining 45 minutes the programme was on. Nothing, nada, zilch.

Oh how the rest of the panel laughed

Then I wondered…will he still be paid when saying nothing?….when he’s obviously paid to give his “expert” punditism

    The guy’s a choob

“Now it’s criticism for giving them a free ride.”

I said explicitly, and you can’t have missed it, that I would not expect any of our bloggers to be rude and aggressive at the first meeting offered to bloggers by the Ange & Dom team.

Nevertheless, given the amount of shade that you threw at Ange beforehand, I detected a meekness in your questioning that was at total odds with what you had to say beforehand about it.

And you were not alone. Paul 67 faced regular criticism, and from yourself too, as being PL’s puppet and retracting criticism for access.

Quite a few bloggers made that self-same bargain at this event.

  13. Back in the day, at 0-0 or even 0-1, we used to say, “Don’t worry, Henriks still to score”

I wonder if the Portuguese fans say that about Ronaldo

  14. I always thought Eden Hazards brother got a game cos Eden said….”If he’s no playin am no playin”

  15. Being the optimist and having watched AG and done some research (as best you can) I am gonna be giving my full support to the man. The board are gonna have to back him, but given our relative financial strength and the likely departures to follow there is no reason we cant sign 5 or 6 first teamers to jumpstart the process and get back on track next season and beyond.

AG sounds much like ronny d, but with 25 years in the management game I dont think he will allow any players or coaches to derail his plans or approach. A few egos in the dressing room might take a hit

    Agreed

And some of those egos have shit the nest

They want to take off and let us get on with it rather than get their talons into our new manager

    Tielmens is over rated

    Turnbull is far better

How ironic, to watch Portuguese players complaining about time wasting on that pitch in Seville
