Celtic, or Wales, against the world

597

I read Wales defender Connor Roberts say “99% of the world” will support Denmark in their last 16 tie tomorrow and thought- the underdog, fighting against the crowd.  99% of the world will not support Denmark, not me, for a start, but the ‘us against the world’ narrative is one of my favourites.

As a rallying call, it is surely more effective than the alternative.  Today’s footballer is an immensely well catered for athlete, apart from his 90 minutes on the park and (relatively few) hours on the training field, he will struggle for little.  What does he have to fight against, if not perceived ranks of people wanting him to lose?

Beaten, humiliated in Europe, trophy-less, written-off by many among our own, singled-out by the Government.  Ange Postecoglou will not have to work hard to convince the players is really is them against the world.  This squad really does have plenty to fight against.

I had 50p ew on Nicholas T at 100-1 yesterday, I had already backed Mildenberger in the race but saw that both Goldie’s runners were big prices so had a small punt on them , think Sir Chauvelin was 80’s, couldn’t believe it when Nicholas T romped home !!

Happy Birthday ! Will they still need you will they still feed you when you’re 64 ??

  6. Seemingly Murrayfield ran out of alcohol and had to shut bars early. Lol.

But what it does show is the demand. Why should football fans be discriminated against. Citing historic events is no excuse for blatent discrimination.

Times have changed and we must adapt.

Sorry hear you’re no well again big man. Just picking out some stuff from your posts. The heaviest i’ve ever been is 19st 4lbs. I was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic cut out as much sugar as I could stand no full fat irn bru (3 – 4 litres a day) and all the lovely cakes you mentioned earlier. Got down to 16st 10lbs. My doctor then changed my meds took me off Gliclazide and put me on Jardiance the weight fell off me. The surgery pharmicist said this stuff makes you piss out the equivalent of a mars bar of pure sugar each day. I’m now down at 14st 3lb. My wife says i’ve not to lose any more weight cos i’m too skinny. I think she’s just feart that with the weight loss and going for a day out with you i’ll get a burd.

Good news on crowds in August – if it happens.

Downside though is our difficult set of away fixtures in the first quarter of the season.

I wonder if the SPFL computer suspected as much from the Leitch guy?

    Uttoxeter 3.00 ERNESTRO @ 7/1.

Uttox at 3.35…PHYSHEDELIC ROCK at 14/1.

BOTH are trained by Ian Williams. IF that is the VERY SAME Mr Willams that also trains Flat horses, then the ” STABLE” is in very good form recently ?

I have backed both Horses in singles and an each way double….for a couple of Sheckels.

    Best of luck.

Ange will have watched the A-League final played today (where the City Group’s lads got a win)

Two young players the Boss would have noticed would be Marco Tilio (attacking winger) and POTM Nathaniel Atkinson an energiser bunny who can play at RB but today played mids.

Jim Goldie? Played amateur football with him back in the day; helluva amiable fella as I recall.

  17. Just finished listening to Ange & Dom (how long before they get Dick & Dom namings?) doing their presentation to Celtic bloggers.

I did not see whether CQN or SC got invites or were attendees but it was a bizarre sight to see one prominent Ange Critic, the blogger James Forrest, present such a tame question when given the invite and the opportunity.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think anyone should be rude or accusatory at the man’s initial meeting with bloggers but both guys were really given a very soft ride from all questioners and all have left the meeting writing up very warm things about both men when all they have done is talk a good game.

    Bizarre.

  18. SETTING FREE THE BEARS FOR RES. 12 & OSCAR KNOX on 27TH JUNE 2021 4:03 PM

I listened again this morning having done so yesterday.

It was tame, very civilised i thought. and i did think was this something that neil and perter could have doen, or indeed if they did (i think only a few times) they got as easy a time ,

the bloggers dont just want communications, they want it through them first as they see themselves as representative of their followers. i feel though tbh, it is kind of like the old CSA set up, a wee bit of a privelage but that means you stop asking the hard questions, for some succuelent iced donuts.

i didnt catch Jf question specifically.

i will say though, after a second listen, nothing really changes, different people in the seats, we strive to be world class, benchmark against others (brentford ffs), i am para phrasing but at one point Dom did say things here are already really good (and PL does a great handover) ans p.s. he wont really be leaving.

it was fine, but there was nothing earth shatteringly good, that said to me anything is going to be radically different.

pps, i dont like that a CEO gets to deliver a 10 year plan, as much as PL delivered his owners objectives, he got 10 years too long in the seat, and financial rewards way beyond any similare enterprise.

i do wonder if Dom or Ange are on less or the same or more than who they replace.

    just a wee ramble

  19. Is anyone in contact with Enegmatic, I miss that fellas rambles around glasgow and his photies, i cant find his blog either.

  20. St Stivs

    Flats overlooking Hampden.

Early 70’s I lived in Iona Court just of Broomloan Rd and could look into Ibrox. Could see the Celtic end until the 18 yard line at the Huns end until the built the Govan Stand.

I would tell people ” if rangers (original) were gettimg beat I’d go in for the last twenty minutes (free). I was there that often they thought I had a sesson ticket ;-))))

Sorry about the poor Uttoxeter ” Tips”, but i based my Bets on the trainers recent record.

Just to cheer you up…the same trainer Ian Williams) had TWO other horses running at Cartmel today. One of them ” Solar Impulse” Won at 8/1….which I backed.

I thought it was only fair and honest to let you know.

    LOL

  22. Fess, thats a brilliant share, ta for that.

you got a favourite huns game defeat from the window memory ?

Being a really boring person I know that Glasgow had 321 tower blocks built. I never lived in one, found it scary enough being on the 7th floor of cratsdye court at ny aunties. but the views, wow.

how far in each direction could you see from the hisghest ones ? would that be the red row flats, i need to go research.

  23. SAINT STIVS

We lived on 16th floor with a good view. What wasn’t good was during the 3 day week getting home from working in the Dry Dock and having no electricity for the lifts. It’s a long trek up all they stairs.

Can’t remember any special game but one I do remember was them drawing with Airdrie . I walked into Govan just as their busses were leaving. I was walking along Govan Rd wearing a red jumper when one of their cattle trucks stopped with then screaming ” thats one of they barstewards” and about 6 piled off the bus. Thank feq a wee Govan wumman came along and told them I had nothing to do with the bhoys giving them dogs abuse at The Cross. Had to go for a drink and settle my nerves

  24. Tom McLaughlin on

Looking at Callum’s brilliant form in the Euros tells me Lennon was the problem last season. I think we could win the title back next season with largely the same players, plus a few good signings and one or two departures.

Good players don’t become bad players overnight. Free from whatever held them back with Lennon at the helm, and with the new manager giving them a fresh impetus, I would expect a vast improvement in the players from the off.

  25. I still don’t understand the love in between itv sport and Sir Albert McMoist.

The guy talks UTTER SHIT but gets one of the best gigs on tv, meanwhile, big Sutty, BBJ and even MON are sitting twiddling their thumbs.

It’s got to be a Masonic thang.

  26. Providing our players, old and new, buy into Ange’s vision…..I can also see us winning back OUR league

31003-I think bbj,Sutton and the like have better options, hence itv is left with that wallyheed 😉

  29. 31003,

I think you are giving the ” masonic thing ” too much influence.

Fat Salery has topped polls about being the best commentary team with Clive Tyldesley. I don’t see the attraction, but maybe he’s just a popular guy.

  30. Go tell the Spartim on

Big Thunder did say it’s all well and good talking about it he has to show it (paraphrasing of course) , he talked about having the edge, marginal or not, in all aspects of the football club, it starts with good players let’s see who we get, it’ll need to be soon with the quarantine rules and of course the first signing should make a statement. As much as it pains me to say it, Billy Stark was big Billy’s first signing but they made out it was Andy Walker, both were good purchases at the time. I think if we’re buying young they’ll be bunched together in the announcement, if it were me. Announce, Hickey, Nisbet and the young Croat at the same time, takes the pressure of them instantly especially from our “friends” the SMSM. I liked the fanzine presser, think if you ask Ange a question you’ll get an honest answer
