Celtic Park moment, Balde tradition, super-fit Elfsborg

144

As the players prepared for kick off four-year-old Oscar Knox turned and raised his arms towards his father on the touchline. It was a great Celtic Park moment.

Amido Balde got 14 minutes at the end of the game last night. By then Cliftonville were well beaten, but Amido’s physical threat was undeniable. He’s a big, broad, lad. Very much in the ‘Balde’ tradition.

Neil Lennon correctly suggested that a week is a long time in preseason football. I remember the son of a former Celtic striker making the same observation after we transformed a 5-0 deficit into a 4-0 victory in August 2005. Watching last night, you get the feeling there is still a lot of work to do before we face super-fit Elfsborg next week. I know there has been a lot of stress about having to play three Champions League qualifying rounds but I’m pleased we have the Cliftonville games under out belt.

More on the Uefa monies later……..

I was talking to a hun earlier and he gleefully told me that Celtic were a disgrace because of our fans behaviour at Brentford. He went on to compound his stupidity by comparing Saturday to the night we left the lights on for the German bombers.

After putting him straight on both events I asked him where his source of information was for both these hun fantasies. Yes, you guessed it, RM. Ha ha, what a rocket.

Anyway, I batted back at him with Manchester, Barcelona and Romania. Off he went muttering but, but but ……….

It got me thinking, what other scurrilous fabrications they’ve made up over the years. The Dundee riot is an obvious one but there must be plenty?

  10. Apparently Celtic have accepted a bid from QPR. Now up to Hoops if he wants to join the London Gers. CL football or a move to the championship not even a mid table EPL club interested!! If the transfer transpires it does seem a very retrogde move in for him given his stated desire to play for Engerlund.

  11. So Celtic, hiv accepted the Queen’s Park Rangers Bid Fur oor Gary.

    Cognitive dissonance time —–

Knowing that I didn’t stain the reputation of Celtic by running on to the pitch at the Estadio Nacional on 25 /5 / 67 . —- Oh what a good boy !

Knowing that the primary reason why I didn’t disgrace the Hoops by running on to the pitch at the Estadio Nacional on 25 /5 /67 was the fact that I was almost completely immobilized by the chunk of Zero Zero I’d eaten before the game to calm down my nerves.. My mouth was so dry , I could barely speak , running would have been an exertion too far.. Oh what a bad boy !

Now that the price has been agreed with QPR I would expect Norwich and possibly West Ham to match it and Hooper to sign for one of them.

  17. Snake Plissken on

If Celtic are getting 5M for Hooper and Hamburg (pals of Sevco sadly) want 5M for that Latvian striker and Celtic really really want him – pay what they want and give the fans a marquee signing and a goalscorer to replace Hooper.

We’ve seen the money made from the CL AND Wanyama AND now Hooper.

Replacing Hooper with the Latvian might get us a lot more of the CL money so we should take the plunge just this once if Neil Lennon wants and needs this player.

    Makes sense to me.
