Celtic should appeal to Uefa to change processes, fudge doughnuts

879

I’m not convinced that any meeting of minds between Celtic and Legia Warsaw to allow the latter to take the place of the former in the Champions League play-off round would be recognised by Uefa.  Having researched as thoroughly as possible, I’ve found no precedent for such an arrangement to be invoked.

It would, therefore, probably be safe for Celtic to take the high moral ground and acquiesce with Legia, but that would be a cheap shot at being generous, Celtic have no intentions of becoming involved, whether they have the opportunity or not.

The utter distress Legia are enduring because of an administrative oversight will cause untold damage.  The club have to try everything possible, including an appeal which invokes Willie Maley and Jock Stein, but they must find a clear path through Uefa, which does not appear to exist.

What Celtic can do, is appeal to Uefa to have processes changed, just as we did in 1970 when we profited from the toss of a coin.  Instead of clubs having the responsibility of checking available players, they could be issued with the same list the Uefa observer had on Wednesday, making this mistake less likely.

Current processes allow a minor infraction to cause disproportionate harm to a football club, and the tournament itself. Celtic should not hesitate in saying so.

Registration partially tightens tonight on player eligibility for our Champions League play-off round against NK Maribor.  After today, clubs can only add one player to their squad for these games.

While it is important to get players in ahead of Maribor, I’m not convinced the arrivals will be able to have a transformational impact.  It will largely be those already at Lennoxtown who will exorcise the demons of Murrayfield.

For what it’s worth, Maribor think they are absolute certainties to progress.  Planning to analyse them in detail tomorrow; I’m not betting against them.

I was mystified as to how relegated Hearts managed to win away from home in their first game as a lower league club but now I’ve heard Ally McCoist blame the off-field input of Charles Green it all makes sense.  How could any footballer reasonably expect to put in a shift with a former director speaking to the media some time earlier?

Delighted to hear the Daily Record swooped in to asset this as the reason for Newco Rangers demise yesterday.  It’s the same deflection as went on during Murray/Whyte/Green years all over again.  Why do they do this to themselves?

Let’s hope Ally sticks to his guns are clings to that contract like a fudge doughnut.

I find the debate about Ronny Deila being allowed to keep his job or not slightly weird.

Ronny Deila lost 2 of the four most important games this club will play this season.

Ronny Deila is not solely responsible for that as he didn’t come in and commandeer the coaches job. However, he did contrive to lose those two games in spectacular fashion having chosen the tactics and the players. To deny that is to ignore the facts.

However, in mitigation, he MAY have inherited a squad of players who would play for their previous manager because the previous manager accommodated their quirks and traits. Neil Lennon may also have deployed to suit the limitations of that team and their strengths.

We don’t have any choice but to agree that Ronny Deila should continue in post as sacking him now would result in more carnage. Celtic need to tie down as much stability as possible and that means staying with Ronny Deila even if he loses the Maribor games in the same manner. The Celtic board chose Ronny Deila as their coach and they saw fit to allow his leadership to steer us through Legia. I see no evidence, not a shred, that Ronny Deila will be able to get a turn around in time for Maribor. I would dread to think what would happen if we get to the Champions League and draw the likes of Real Madrid or Ryecatchers team.

We should be planning for the Europa and looking to get players in that will form a team with those left at Celtic who Ronny Deila feels can play his system. Ultimately it looks as if we need the whole season to get into Ronnys style. Thank god we have the Europa League to use as some sort of benchmark on improvement or otherwise. We certainly couldn’t go into th same period next year not knowing if Ronny has got what it takes to get us into European group football next season.

Jimmci, Keevins had his press privileges from Celtic withdrawn after he had used the cancellation of a Sean Fallon tribute game in Sligo, stating Celtic withdrew for financial reasons, to have a go at us. Both Celtic & Sligo cancelled the match as a third party came in and changed the original details of who would benefit from the game.

The Fallon family were annoyed about the innaccuracy of the story as were Celtic.

He could still access Celtic Park but had to pay his way in.

I agree with you, I get the feeling that it has become an anti Celtic blog, I can’t distinguish who’s a tim, and who’s a hun, I used to rely on meeting people,so as I know who’s who,now it takes me all my time to post on here.

Maybe Ronny will try Berget in the middle as a striker. I`ve no idea if he can play there but he is tall. Seems strange to sign 2 left sided forwards/wingers on loan within the space of a fortnight.

Both Mathews and Izzy are not good enough as defenders any team when getting a free kick or corner only need to put two six footers on them and we are in bother. Both are poor at stopping getting crosses into the box. H.H.

I agree with this. Izzy tends to get caught out with balls played inside him more IMO.

Also agree with what you say about it being highlighted more in Euro games. This is why I have such concerns with Efe. He gets away with too many in the SPFL for my liking. The line about these guys playing during the record period is understandable, and to a point hard to argue against, but for me I also have to go on what I see in individual moments. I honestly believe we carried a hell of a lot of luck during the record period. Just my opinion though.

It’s clear that won’t happen. He’s behind Stokes & Pukki for the striker spot. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s not a Celtic player by end of the month.

If yer right I’ll be disappointed.

He is an excellent worker and by all accounts a great trainer.

Griffiths is no saint but I think he is trying his best.

He will get the goals if he gets a chance.

Super Sutton. Our players tend to get there limitations exposed more in European games just watch the two of them in the upcoming European games I think it will shock you. H.H.

    ——–

Yes, but you said any team.

Said team would need to have two 6 footers who can jump (we seem to have those but they jump down) and the players to supply the crosses.

I also thought that before his injury Matthews was excellent at preventing crosses. Opinions…

I think you are mistaking what you read on CQN for what Celtic are saying officially.

Anyway, whether stated or not, the dynamic is still there. I look at the outcomes as better evidence rather than what was said or unsaid. In all 4 cases the player was sold.

For a look at the deficiencies of the other side of your approach, look at Celtic’s efforts to sell Bobo Balde or Newcastle’s efforts to sell the talented but unfit Ben Arfa.

The Samaras and Commons contract renewals has sent out a signal to the squad. No more money.

Neil Lennon leaving has sent out the the signal. We are not interested in continued improvement if it is going to eat at our profits you have helped to garner.

I dont believe it is a malaise that has set in due to Ronny. His appointment emphasises that Celtic are only in it for the money.

The happy clappers will say and have been that its a master stroke. The mineshafters the cheap option.

The players have lost incentive to play for Celtic.

We will get better players in who want to play for the club and Ronnie but will they be as good while profits are maintained. That is what the board believe … once Roy keane was jettisoned.

Can’t says that I know the boy, but I also agree that there are plenty out there capable of doing a job for us, I just can’t understand why we can’t find them.

We are paying a full time scouting dept, yet we are wasting hard earned money on strikers who don’t score goals.

I am not asking the club to spend money they don’t have, I am not even asking them to buy someone for over the odds, but for relativly little spend say the same we paid for Balde, we could bag a striker who actually does score goals.

As I said earlier, something is no right, and it’s not value for money.

I will look out for the boy.

    TET,

I guess it’s easy to sit here and offer up names but there are definitely strikers out there, who are consistently banging in goals for their current clubs (unlike some of the ones we’ve signed recently)

I watch a bit of Croatian football and Andrej Kramaric is one. Top scorer in the league last year for his club Rijeka. They play in front of less than 10,000. Kramaric is young, had been at Dinamo Zagreb for years before falling out with the coach last summer and moving. Scored a wonder goal for Rijeka against Lyon in Champions League qualifier last year.

Wouldn’t expect the transfer fee or wages would be out of our reach.

    ………….

Some time ago i made several posts asking someone in Budapest and others if there was any chance of an update on Nikolic. “bout 25 yo and been banging them in for Videoton (Szekesfehervar, Hungary) for the past couple of seasons.
