Celtic, the Bank of England of investment opportunities

595

Celtic are an astonishing 1/200 to win the Premiership this season; 11 games into a 38 game competition. 1/200 isn’t betting odds, it’s a borrowing strategy. The bookies are borrowing money at 0.5% for six months, an annual rate of 1%. Try borrowing at better rates than that.

Investors get a 1% tax free savings rate, which is also competitive, although they don’t get access to their money for six months without significant penalty. If borrowing rates were higher, returns offered on Celtic would improve to attract more investors. The Scottish Premiership has jumped from being a sporting event to being an investment opportunity less volatile than gold or property.

The 10 point gap between Celtic and second placed Aberdeen is the same 10 points as between Aberdeen and bottom club Ross County. We are metaphorically in a different league than even our closest challengers.

Question is, how did Celtic become the Bank of England of football? It’s not just because they are financially responsible with appropriate oversights, this helps. More importantly, they have used their financial strength to fortify the competitive product on the park. Others have been in similar situations in previous decades without the oversight, which led to enormously entertaining failure.

It might look like Brendan Rodgers has achieved alchemy over a sleeping dinosaur, but he’s only part of the story, albeit an important part. Much of the groundwork was in place when he arrived. Nine of those who started the League Cup semi-final were at the club last season, they were just not nearly as effective.

Brendan’s building on rock solid foundations. That’s what you need to build generations of domination.

However he took his wedge and as I recall a new solicitor bride and rode off into the sunset with my and many others grateful thanks.

    Your Honour,

Mr Barton had a disagreement with a team-mate on the training pitch following a heavy defeat.

Training-ground spats are not unusual occurrences in the highly-charged world of top-level football.

However, such a spat following not only a humiliating defeat but Mr Barton’s football team being photographed shoulder to shoulder with a Loyalist flute band who celebrate sectarian murderers is an unusual occurrence, and Mr Barton should be praised for his stance in rejecting this.

Mr Barton, however, was sent home, immediately, and suspended.

The team-mate involved was unpunished and remained available for selection.

Having served his punishment to the letter and without demur, Mr Barton was dismayed when his suspension was prolonged by a further three weeks.

You may ask yourself, as indeed Mr Barton himself did, why this was.

Mr Barton regarded this as an assault on his already-fragile sense of self-worth.

Following this, Mr Barton was told that he could resume training, but with the youth players only and not the first team squad.

Thus, Mr Barton’s sense of self was once again undermined, illegally, by his employers.

As an England International footballer and Player of the Year last year at his previous club, we would put it to the court that Mr Barton’s footballing pedigree is unimpeachable, and that the unfortunate situation he finds himself in has come about as a result of his employers’ lack of duty and care. And money.

And while Scott Brown riding him like a show-pony during a mismatched SPL fixture clearly did not help, the responsibility for Mr Barton’s sudden and regrettable fall from grace in the eyes of his employers lies squarely with them.

Mr Barton is quite clearly a victim of constructive dismissal.

    *sits.*

Gearoid, that’s a pity about Joe. As an established goal scorer , there should be a number of clubs especially Cliftonvile wanting him to join them.

Its a pity he has not adapted to full time football.

Liam Boyce , last season and the start of this one, had adapted well to full time training . He looked leaner and fitter than before.

I hope Joe goes back to Cliftonville and recovers his appetite for football.
