  1. What is the Stars on

Another flaw with Rodgers is he still hasn’t addressed the one glaring deficiency in our team

We still have no recognised scapegoat

It’s probably the most important position in any team

  2. BBC keep mentioning the 2 ‘Own goals’ and opoor goal keepig.. and they cant remember Bayern playing celtic….except Scott McDonald

  3. Lumpy performance at times — but great result.

However class above when we put a couple of passes together and started to look for space in the centre of the park.

ON — Superb performance, hopefully he got MOTM.

He has 95% of VW’s physical presence and 195% of his footballing ability / passing range

  4. Absolute magic tonight Celtic against a side who had me a little concerned before the game but how good does it feel we are 90mins away from being a certainty to be in the Champions league group stages. We can all sit back & relax with no more nail biting ,hiding behind the couch , walking the dug. waiting for the ref to blow for full time when every minute feels like an eternity

  5. Oh my God, as if the Big Lie wasn’t huuuu-ge enough, commentator on Napoli v Nice match remarks on Nice having defeated Ajax in the qualifying round, “though it was very early in the season. These early Champions League play-off games do throw up some surprising results, when you get the likes of a team from Luxembourg beating Rangers(sic) “.

Champions League, now he IS having a laugh!

My mum`s maiden name was Murphy . Her family lived in Cambuslang . She used to tell us that her uncle went to Hungary to teach the Hungarians how to play football. That would be turn of the century.

  7. mike in toronto on

biggest difference tonight was confidence and belief … even before we scored, Astana had a few chances, but we didnt seem to get rattled, like we would have in the past …

BR has done some great things … but instilling that self-belief might be his best accomplishment so far…

  8. I hope now,the would be managers in our ranks, would zip it,and let the real manager do his job.

“No way should Biton play”,I would put “Lustig at CH”.”Not convinced about Ntcham yet”.And so on.

Do you feel stupid tonight?.I hope so,because see that statement thats made on here often”In Brendan we trust”,try and stick by it.

Loved it when he took the big man over to the GB,and gave him plaudits in front of them.

  9. Great night in dear ole drizzly Paradise and a job well done for the Celts.

Thought Olivier Ntcham showed why he has nudged Stuart Armstrong out of the side since the start of the season and he oozed class on the big stage, ably assisted by Scott Brown in midfield where we bossed it from around 15 minutes in, to the finish.

Nice to see Scott Sinclair recover some of his last season form Rogic did a Scottish Cup Final burst through to take his ‘own goal’ and well worthy worker James Forrest kept his head down for the 95 mins and took his chance again, after a pass superb pin point pass from Ntcham.

All drama queens clamped and Nir Bitton strolled it again admittedly against next to nothing up front, BR’s team selection was sock on and Mikel Lustig made telling passes for fun, especially his first half slide rule for Tom Rogic.

Astana were no Rosenborg had no bus to park, were too open and p*** poor up front. Good shout also to Paul67 who researched the Astana keepers and gave us a heads up, on Astana’s weakness.

Small matter, but time to ditch the Griffiths delivery passing he picked out nada in the entire game and should be on the receiving end IMHO, or do we have nobody else at the club that can hit a decent ball?

    M.O.M Olivier Ntcham

p.s. Once again we have the phantom deflection scandal awarding good goals as own goals, can only be the work of “the evil Bookie” when hundreds maybe thousands of Celtic fans waiting on money for Rogic and Griffiths both scoring. I just don’t get it, but deflections were deflections in the good old days, but they didn’t get awarded as an Angus Og.

p.p.s Amazing the breaks and 50-50’s Celtic get when the referee isn’t Scottish?

  10. James Forrest scored the most important goal of the night,

the goal that brought, 53,000 curtain twitchers…..

    oot fae ahint the curtains….

ye see, up until that point, the GB, grabbed the Cellic…..

wi the scruff ae their necks, oantae the stage…..

    Anyway,…….

It would’ve been, pure dead brilliant, if awe the goals….

wur deflections, lurkin huns GIRUYeez !!!

Tony Donnelly 67 Auld fenian eeedjit CSC.

    ……off-oot.

  11. Not heard the BBC coverage.

However the RTE coverage that I did see was terrible.

The commentary was a total disgrace plus the studio discussion made Sportscene sound world class.

Not sure why all the negativity?

I’m sure if it had been an EPL team it would have been wall to wall positivity.

The two clowns commentating were incredible — talking down to everything we did.

They never once talked about Astans’s record this season it was all about how neither of the teams were CL class.

    Shameful coverage.

Probably worse than BBC Shortbread on a bad TFOD2 day.

  12. mike in toronto on

cant be too positive, or I will get kicked out of the mineshafters club … and Turkeybhoy might think I’m going soft, and we cant have that ….

so, I i will point out that PSG – a team that cost much, much more than Celtic – won the first leg of last year’s semi 4- 0, yet never made it through … so, we cant take anything for granted …

    aahh… that feels better!

    :)

  13. N tcham is our next superstar.Check my post before the game.Identical.This boy has it all.4. 5 million.Yer havin a laugh.Eboue will be the same when his luck changes. The futures bright,

    ITS GREEN AND WHITE.

  14. Jinknewton 10:15

I have not heard the story. I will try to find out as much as I can and will be here tomorrow at 10 pm to say if I can help.

  15. What is the Stars on

    Madmitch

Rte are dreadful on Celtic games

    BT is the best.

Maybe Jonny Hayes could be the scapegoat we have been crying out for

  16. MIKE IN TORONTO on 16TH AUGUST 2017 10:35 PM

Oi,dont be abusing my name in such a nonchalont fashion.

In my best Corporal Jones voice.

  17. Zip it?

Good idea, should make for a great football blog!

Though if posters are confusing Brendan when he’s lurkin’ on here looking for ideas. . . . . . .

  18. Very much a performance where we had our ‘game-head’ on – max possession and overall control for the majority of the game.

This was a step-up from most of our cruising 5-0 type league game wins – every player understood the game strategy and executed it.

I think we can play better and I think we could’ve been more cynical in front of goal but that aside – this Team has got a real purpose about it.

If this type of performance improves (less mistakes/ more chances taken) – this Team will make a ‘mark’ in Europe. Hopefully this year!

Recruitment-wise (15 days till window closes) – tonight’s result (Group Stages) must be a big incentive for potential signing targets.

An interesting few weeks ahead – I hope!

  19. mike in toronto on

    Tontine …

Barca gettin humped 5-1 on aggregate at the moment … might need to bring on Real if we want some real competition!

    :)

  20. What is the Stars on

Anyone else beginning to think that next tuesday won’t be the same without the nail biting clock watching anxiety…

    Just me then ?

  21. Nye Bevans' rebel soldier on

Much more than I hope for, effin chuffed tae bits, no failures

with big Ollie outstanding he’s a real serious player, all and all

a fantastic night at Paradise……..even the bad lhads and lhassies

of the GB were on top form.

  22. Brilliant performance tonight all round ,especially Ntcham and good to see Sinclair back on song ! Here for Terry Munro !!

  23. Big Ollie has great feet and body strength, superb balance ad an eye for a pass, his tactical awareness all over the pitch rally shows his experience of Serie A I think, looks a real real bargain at that price and he’s only 21:))

I think we’ll see a couple more in before the window slams shut!!

    Happy Tim days

  24. Macjay that would be amazing!!

Zbyszek that is much appreciated! Do chorzow not play in blue? Wondered if they were the factory club (as my papa put it)?

    Will catch up tomorrow!!!

  25. Mrs TB just come down and said”Are you going to bed”I said”No,I have put a bottle of Proscecco in the freezer, its now ready, and I am drinking it”.What an act of pyoor bravado. Its said now,she has disappeared, and the cork has been popped.GLUG,GLUG,GLUG.I will see you all tomorrow.

    I hope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

  26. MIKE IN TORONTO

    Barca are hopeless.

Their new coach has a huge task but will they give him time?

Their system is ineffective and predictable

Umtiti looked like a hun centre half on Real;s second.

  27. What is the Stars on

Anyone else beginning to think that David Moyes might have been the better option last year.

    Just me then?
