Maybe Brendan, knowing that we have the league as good as won, is trying out a few new things, and taking risks because we have played ourselves into a position that we can do that?

Maybe after imperiously blowing everybody else away in Scotland last season, he is now trying out ways to stop us coming up short against the CL big boys and getting done by five and seven?

    ———-

Trying out methods against Dundee to stop the likes of PSG….what did he do, play a bank of 5 with 4 in front, compact and narrow? Course he didn’t. We played the same way we always do and it was awful. As for taking risks, we took Tom Rogic off and sat Ntcham in front of the back 4, whilst PR sat on the bench.

  2. 50 shades of green on

Another point towards the magnificent 7 …..

    Nuff said….

  3. I think there is a feeling of job done in the team.

Players are unwilling to take the risk of an injury, apart from Captain courageous.

They all seem to be playing within themselves.

Opposition managers with no ambition are packing their defense.

As someone said earlier, we need to score early to force them out of their shell.

We absolutely dominated all the stats tonight, possession, shots, corners, shies, fouls, headers, passes, scary moments at the back.

Not being there in person I’d like an opinion on the multiple offsides given against us?

Was the official in line with play and moved by his desire to thwart us?

There’s no reason to lads, the league is won all bar the shouting.

The Huns are dead. Their challenge is in the dust along with their financial clout.

Someone said we should be worried they have scored more goals than we have.

Based on their position they have lost more than us.

    Much more.

    18 more.

Now would any of their side get a place on our bench?

I know who I’d rather be watching even on a cold night in a boring game.

Our next important game is at Hampden.

Not because of our opponents but because of it’s significance on the road to a

    DOUBLE TREBLE.

I didn’t see the game because I was working, but I thought he played CMcG at the back again then switched to a three at the back later after putting 3 subs on?

    Another poor performance tonight

For me too many players who have been getting praise for lifting their game to what It should be at

Are Back in their shells and underperforming

Roberts us far more creative and positive when in the team

No idea why our defenders move forward with space in front of them, and turn back to pass inside ? The ncident with Jack Hendry came from this play, Lustig with space in front of him, about turned and played across a Dundee player into Hendry, who was quickly closed down

    This happens far too frequently

Brendan, we need to change this – oh and play a left back, not a midfielder in there

    Poor fare

    FtSFA,

  8. We had more points under RD in his 2nd season we are not taking our chances and if we don’t score early we don’t score. I don’t know what the problem is but we have a problem.

  9. we buy season books and match day tickets to be entertained , we weren’t tonight , if players are not giving their all in every game that they are selected then their is something wrong and this needs addressing .

  10. Incidentally in his 20min cameo appearance

Ntcham played the best 3 forward passes of the game

Of all of the things that frustrate me, the above is top of the list. It absolutely baffles me, i cannot understand it. The incident you speak of, as soon as that pass went inside i put my head in my hands, i could see it all unfolding.

  12. Brendan “we just lacked that little bit of quality in the final third”. wee paddy and musonda were sat behind you all night Sir.

    Question

    Thoughts on Caulker performance???

He was OK, nothing more. Dundee had better players i thought.

So, the game was crap etc… tonight or, were Celtic Playing Sevco Bingo with the the fixtures list?

    ======

    I wondered about that.

  15. Why go to all the effort and expense of bringing in Roberts, Musonda and Compper, then not play them?

It was a big mistake for me to watch the Juve- Madrid’s game last night before tonight’s game. The first was a game replete with skill from 22 players. The second was a turgid, abjectly dire performance, bereft of any skill, apart from a single moment from Eduoard. When Armstrong stepped up to take our first corner kick, I thought, “This is going to go straight to the keeper.” Guess what? That’s where he put it. Why does Brendan put up with this? In my experience, amateur players would excoriate players who persistently waste corners.

As for our shooting, it is so lamentable, it is comical. Over the last few days, I watched such as Ronaldo, Suarez and a 36 year old Ibrahimovic ( on for 30 minutes), demonstrate that not only did they know where the goal was at all times, but have the savvy to adjust their bodies as the ball arrived to put it on target, usually with great force. Look at our shooting tonight – either weakly trundled towards the goal, placed unerringly in the keeper’s breadbasket, sclaffed past the post, or, most frequently, ballooned into orbit or into Row Z. Why don’t we even attempt to shoot from distance? We persistently try to dribble or pass the ball through an increasingly congested 18 yard box into the net. Let’s face it, our shooting is utterly inept.

And what on earth is up with Dembele? He shows the same desire as an arthritic tortoise, ambling about to no purpose. At least Griffiths and Eduoard display more energy. I would play both against Hamilton. A very frustrating evening tonight.

Brendan Rodgers is going to take us to the next level. Just you watch.

    ———————————————————————————————————————————-

No he won’t nor will any other manager for that matter. The bigger picture is that the level of performance tonight and this season is far more typical of the fare served up by previous managers and that goes back Martin O’Neil’s Larssonless last season.

Strachan had one good Nakamura inspired season and then it went crap performance wise. Mowbray was crap from the beginning till Lennon restored the Thunder in the stands which lasted one season before his teams’ performance levels dipped. Delia promised a lot but delivered not much. Rodgers had his incredible Invincible season but now his team is indistinguishable from Delia’s.

For as long as we play in the cesspit of European football that is SPFL, this is as good as it gets I’m afraid. The one consolation (and it is a big one) is the team will continue to hoover up trophies because the rest are so crap and we have the financial clout.

  17. David17

I am unsure as well – clearly lacking games for confidence, so didn’t think his movement looked entirely comfortable ? positionally looked decent and got his foot in cutting out chances we were trying to create, also looks to have a decent touch

Not sure he commanded and marshalled the defence ??

Not totally convinced – but games will improve his level of performance

  18. Fairly poor this evening. Some nice stuff, interpassing and interplay but not nearly enough and lacking drive.

    However….

Some comments on here are just ridiculous and capricious.

Last season was last season. This season has been different as all seasons are.

Can folk not enjoy the ride for the rides sake. Its never the same road and it’s never always smooth.

Unhinged some of you may be.

  19. dundee got their tactics right played with 2 up front , 1 of them pushed right up on CMcG nullifying his attacks down the left wing leaving our other 3 defenders marking the other 1 player but we continually played the ball between these 3 players sideways and backwards getting nowhere , this only changed when they subbed and put on a bulldozer of a striker late on who played more across their frontline.

Why we didn’t change this early doors heaven knows.

  20. The referee, yet again, had a major impact on the game. In the first 15 minutes, there were several heavy tackles from Dundee which should have been penalised with yellow cards, but were let go sometimes with not even a word to the offender – this had the desired effect of disrupting our rhythm. As the match moved on, in the second half, it then became a case of game management to interrupt every forward momentum. Oh, aye, and we were dire. HH

  21. Talking about Unhinged. I’m catching up with the latest episode of ‘VERA’ – you know the lady detective who has more balls than the SFA. Crime drama I love. In a two hour episode most of it is grim and dire but intriguing. The final 5 minutes is the most satisfying when the baddies get their just deserts and are exposed.

A bit like following Celtic this season?

  22. Caulker: seemed to be marshalling his defence well, but didn’t otherwise stand out for me. HH

  23. Just in from the game. Disappointing to say the least. The forward line all seemed to be wearing their Nike Sebo boots tonight. Lost count of the number of times ML had a ton of space in front of him and seemed unwilling to run into it. For me the Griffalo should start every game, big Moussa only interested in the ‘big’ games from what I can see.

Ps a big thanks to DJ Rebs aka Kikinthenakas for going out of his way to drop me in the Town. A true gent despite me stealing his grub in Lisbon.

  24. Delaneys Dunky on

Have seen too many games this season at home, similar to tonight’s.

Do we never learn. Mystified that Patrick Roberts did not get on. Sinky was poor again.

Thought Calmac played ok, but how we miss KT on the left in attack.

  25. Lot of pish getting thrown around.

Football doesn’t always go your way.

Exhibit 1 – Edouard’s shot in the 81st minute, deflects off the underside of the defender’s heel spins up off the turf and out for a corner.; could have gone anywhere, most usually skipping into the net/across goal for a tap-in.

    NOT our night.

Team build-up was crisp and plenty of dynamism on show – we moved the ball well, won it back really well, but neither had on the shooting boots or got the rub of the green. Made chances every time we attacked their solid defensive block.

On another day, same performance brings a comfortable three-nil… Saturday past, anyone?

Only disturbing aspect of tonight was the late hunnish collaboration by linesman and ref to allow Dundee clean in despite Sam Jackson clearly fouled right in front of their blue-tinted specs. Pathetic desperation.

Celts tired/disinterested/complacent? Ridiculous assertion. Same level of application Sunday we’ll destroy Hamilton; law of averages won Dundee a point tonight, nothing more sinister.

  26. My friends in Celtic.

It seems that the bhoys and Ghirls that actually attended the game are more critical.

The supporters who did not attend are .

More philosophical , analytical and accepting.

That’s because you did not freeze to death watching a poor unambitious and perhaphs unacceptable performance

    However we move on.

    HH.

  27. Aside: Sincy not firing all season, McGregor bemusingly played again ineffectively; would like to see Paddy pay back some faith and investment and wee Charlie given the keys to unlock defenses.

  28. Celticrollercoaster supporting @WalkWithShay on

Ah Ronnie’s second season with more points in Brendan at this stage. Was that the same season, whilst winning the league, we also finished bottom of the Europa League group with 3 points from a possible 18; lost to Ross County in the semi-final of the League cup and then to 4 year old club in semis of the Scottish cup?

  29. why are there posts about “an abject performance” ?

25 shots tonight, one every 3 and a bit minutes.

must have been a tough watch in front of the tv.

  30. NORRIEM

Our central defenders run forward.stop with space ahead then hesitating before passing sideways or backwards has been my bugbear all season.

It’s one of the most baffling futile traits i have witnessed.

Are they taught this?If not why don’t the coaches put a stop to it?

It is nothing but a positive for our opponents as it creates nothing and often puts us under pressure.

The movement off the ball now is practically zero so those suggesting Brendan is practicing ball retention for Europe are delusional.

The thing about good European teams is their movement with or without the ball.

We at the moment are lucky enough to be an average side elevated by playing in a crap league.

  31. I don’t know, but I think some of these curious coves who post…..usually……. after some set-back or other may not in fact be supporters of Our Great Club……….In fact one might venture as far to say that they pretend to be Celtic supporters so that they can troll this Dear Green Place to its detriment as a unfiying influencer of all things Celtica….The sad thing is , once indulged, their self-consciously pejorative take on things can obscure genuine Tims constructive criticism.

In this modren age of Bhlogs and such like I believe the practice of the troll is quite common.
