  1. A Light Insanity

I understand that it’s completely different at the game as regards a player’s confidence being affected if abuse is audible due to numbers and/or repeated every match.

However, I wouldn’t be worrying about someone reading criticism of bad play on here when it’s justified, and going on to repeat the same stuff at a game. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I don’t see too many coming on here for inspiration on what to shout about at the match!

And it’s opinions and observations/ interpretations of play you get on live updates here. Don’t know what that’s got to do with ‘tactics’?

I get angry when teams don’t have to earn their goals against us.

But that’s because I’d happily watch Celtic winning every game they play, while never again conceding a goal!

  2. good game to-night and Celtic once again proved they can go toe to toe with big continental sides but g whiz Celtic hand the Turks a lifeline instead of cruise control to half time and putting these guys away in the second half. Effe unfortunate after playing well blunders badly and we have a different ball game, Brown, Forrest. Bitton, Commons Griffiths all outstanding and young Tierney also did very well. Should have won this game tonight. Sorry not to get a look at our new 5 million signing who it seems has joined Cole in the world of the sick the lame and the lazy.

  3. dr ramesh and the love potion on

Thought we were great the first 40 mins then suddenly a bad mistake at the back let them back into the game. The first 20 mins of the second half we were poor and couldn’t get hold of the ball. Then suddenly we created a couple of chances out of nothing and went on to dominate the rest of the game. It seems that when we have all of the cogs in the machine working together we are dangerous and a pretty good football team but when one or 2 players drop the intensity we quickly fall apart.

    Plus points:

Looked a much more accomplished football team for about 60 mins of the game, passing the ball quickly and accurately.

Forrest had his most mature and effective game in ages.

Tierney showed maturity and skill beyond his years in trying circumstances.

Bitton keeps on growing at this level.

Brown took control of the game for the last 20 mins.

Boyata had his best game in the Hoops.

    Bad points:

WTF were we doing for the first 20 mins of the 2nd half. The players seemed to forget how to play.

Efe played well apart from 1 horrible mistake and was beaten to the ball for the second goal by the bigger man who had a run on him. I feel sorry for him but it has become a habit.

The players are very naive at times.

The only change I’d have made was to have bought the subs on 5 mins earlier as Johansen and Tierney had run themselves into the ground.

The group is still wide open although we need to get a win on the board soon.

Gordon’s kicking is pretty poor for a keeper with his experience.

Imagine being Efe tonight – feel sorry for him..

If that had been the first time then I would agree but it is not the first and we all fear that it will not be the last

A special mention for the Turkish bawbags. Diving and kicking. No wonder they don’t challenge the ISIS huns.

    ——

    Where to start with that?

Do you want the Fenerbace team to declare war in ISIS?

How many Turks actually played tonight btw?

  7. The Huddle

Agree Molde are the form team. They aren’t a great side though and I think we will win over there.

Mainly a feeling but I’m normally very pessimistic about our prospects.

    Hey ho.:-)

  8. the glorious balance sheet on

    The exiled Tim 1039pm

I hear what you say but does the model of player recruitment you outline actually work for Celtic? Or more to the point does it work given the way Celtic execute it?

Is it prudent to bring in so many players that the incumbent manager seems not to rate, to the extent that of his 16 signings, 13 are drawing a weekly wage without troubling the starting eleven?

Look at the case of Tyler Blackett. We must be paying 15k per week for this guy and Ronny elected to play 18 year old Kieran Tierney ahead of him. Tierney was faultless and when Blackett came on for the last 8 minutes he misplaced passes cheaply 3 times and treated the ball like a hot potato in our box in the last move of the game. Looks like a waste of hundreds of thousands of pounds to me that move and you can add Tonev Wakaso scepovic et al to that file.

I think we operate a warped version of the European player recruitment model that you talk about. In my view for Celtic buying players through John park and his committee instead if rd is not about succession planning when new managers come in, it’s about dealing in the same shallow pools of the transfer market marked Israel, Dundee and the treatment tables, cold storage units and development squads of the Manchester clubs. In short the bulk of our transfer activity is about bringing in anyone who the same old agents can source to placate the fans at the end of the transfer window.

So I do agree with you that Ronny has one hand tied behind his back in some respects but you can’t blame the suits for his poor substitutions and inability to see these big European games out. That’s down to him.

  9. Seems that more them Fenerbace has a soft underbelly.

Seen it all sixty years ago. Played well except where it counts most. The scoreline.

  10. CultsBhoy likes living wage hates heated driveways on

Tierney got my motm. 18 years old against world class players . Comes in without much preparation in terms of experience does great.

  11. We have all said they s for years Efe should be nowhere near the Celtic first team

However due to poor planning at CEO level he actually starts games for us

John Kennedy as defensive coach is like Andy Payton or pukki as a striking coach

Maribor. Salzburg away. Astra away. Zagreb away. Malmo. Ajax away. All games where we got into winning positions and couldn’t see it through. Will fenerbahce make it a not so magnificent seven in one the space of little more than a year?

And if they do what does it say about the people in the dug-out overseeing these regular collapses?

Thanks for that…….humour leaves me for five minutes when watching a two goal lead slip……but I’m feeling better now.

    Londonbhoy

    Ok

We were terrific until the equaliser. Fenerbahce then had the momentum. Ronny made no attempt to stop that momentum. What would I have done?

Press higher up the park. At the start of his tenure we rolled over teams when doing this. Change formation…..another tactic to stop the rot……we gained momentum back only when fenerbahce decided a draw was enough and they stopped attacking. You don’t really think we were better in the last 5 mins because of Ronny or the team…….do you?

  14. Nye Bevans' rebel soldier on

I always try and look at the positives as far as Celtic are

concerned,we matched and at times bettered the Turks

apart from the first 20 mins of the second half.thought

Broonie was outstanding, young Tierney did very well,

Griff worked his erse off and KC and JF merit a mention.

Big Effie……..ffs big man what’s tae become of you?

Tae the fcukwits in 112…..if yer gonna fight then fight, don’t

spend 15 mins telling each other whit yees are and aren’t

    gonna dae tae one another.

  15. That I am slightly frustrated and disappointed that we are only sitting on 2pts after playing ajax and fenerbache ,tells me we are on the right road.

so proud of young Tierney and well done broonie my captain and leader.

we are still well in this in fact I feel we could get a result against anyone in our group,

I didnt think that when the draw was made

Good night and a big Hail Hail to all you bhoys & ghirls

    let the people sing :))))))

  16. Fenerbahce spend since July 2015 – €34.65 M

That figure does not include Van Persie – who was flown in by private jet with his family -and the fee is undisclosed! Nani was €7.00M so I would conservatively estimate him at €10.00M

€44.65M and they were lucky to escape Paradise with a draw?

Anyone remind me how much Celtic spent close season?

The sense of entitlement and anger at performances in Europe on CQN is staggering.

I enjoyed the game tonight. Always hope for a win but never go OTT when things don’t go as hoped for. Enjoy what we do have.

Efe has been brought up in the African Nations model of football . Everyone is an athlete and they go all out to attack and do amazingly technical things… Defending is not really a consideration. I’m surprised when I watch these games when less than 6 goals are scored.

European football is a different ball game. He is a square peg in a round hole. Great guy but not what we need in high profile games .

  19. Captain Beefheart on

GBS don’t think we will be paying Blackett anywhere near that. I hope not anyway. A bizarre addition.

Stringer, yes, I want to see that wee Diago in the trenches. Haven’t forgotten his goal for Madrid against us.

  20. CQN match report is up, posted from a very noisy Tommy Gemmell Celtic Supporters bus where I am pleased to report the one and only football song was in support of big Efe.

  21. Much better tactical setup tonight from previous outings such as Malmo. Individual errors were costly. Overall a decent performance.

Individually, I thought Brown was outstanding. His best performance in a long time. I loved the way he spent the first ten minutes sat beside Tierney, always ready for a pass and supporting him. A true Captain.

Johansen was simply awful, his form and attitude are a big concern.

Nani was a disgrace, what a little rodent.

  22. 31003 on 1ST OCTOBER 2015 11:04 PM

We were terrific until the equaliser. Fenerbahce then had the momentum. Ronny made no attempt to stop that momentum.

He did. 67mins 23sec to be precise. He told them to change from 4-5-1, where were getting deeper and deeper and hanging on, to 4-2-3-1 and pushe Johansen further forward and tried to press them nights up. Result, the majority of the last 20 mins was played in their half with us looking the most likely.

The poster may well have been a hopeful prophet of self serving doom.

However, he or she told no lies.

All the excuses in the world about such and such, and we will do them over there etc is absolute tosh.

You look at the result – always and only, for that’s what matters.

Deila at 2-0 should have locked the door and thrown the key away.

    But no.

Deila will really get found out and highlighted for his ineptitude in the next game.

2 points from 6 is not going to get us anywhere.

Ok sorry 31003. I must have mistook you for someone else with another number. Mea culpe. It might have been 32002.

I will scroll back and offer my apologies when I find your positivity.

  26. TGBS

As I said before, IMO, our biggest mistake has been not to appoint a DoF.

And I will say it again, RD does the best he can, sometimes not up to the standard most expect, but that’s what happens when you appoint the cheap option.

I have always believed that the most important person at a football club is the manager~coach, unfortunatly Pedro doesn’t see things that way.

    Nothing wrong with that,except…

Boy,have our expectations been managed to death.

Five, ten, twenty and thirty years ago,we’d have been bliddy raging about that.

Each to his own but I cannot figure that out.

  31. GlassTwoThirdsFull on

Well – where to start with that?

Should have won the game, obviously.

First goal – individual mistake. Sadly from a predictable source.

Second goal – never been a fan of zonal marking, but not sure if it was purely down to that. Griffiths seemed to lose the scorer when he made the run. Ambrose standing square on was never going to see him. We have to be better than that at this level. Or any level.

Pluses – Brown, Bitton, Tierney, Lustig (lasting the 90 as well as a solid performance), Boyata not too bad.

Forrest – not sure if he was going to make it as he seemed to have plateaud, but was excellent. Can now defend and use his left foot. Well done to James and the coaching team.

Seemed to totally lose the confidence we had in the first half after their goals, but finished reasonably well. Should have won the game though.
