  1. Off course with this but…one name not mentioned for the Filths new manager is that superb football expert pundit…..and superb manager of Hull City some while back is one Attila the Hun….”Hateley”….apparently he’s a Hun Legend…why is he not being considered, he was always quick to offer others his expert tactical views to others .

  2. MADMITCH @ 9:25 AM,

    Well I wouldn’t disagree with that…

It all comes down to medium and long term planning.

We had an exceptional last Season, UCL qualification, some great results and performances in that Competition and the way we took the domestic Treble was unmatched.

We had a choice to build on that, strengthen and try to do even better. But how much better? How much does that cost?

IMO we choose to go down a different route. For instance rather than pay £3M for a Centre Half that could plug a gap we choose to spend the money on Kouassi.

So, we may be more vulnerable at the back in some matches so be it – we can’t spend the money twice, so it’s a matter of priorities.

It has meant that this is a somewhat consolidation Season, so…

    “What are we achieving here”

Two parts to that, firstly what did/do we need to achieve this Season.

Well European Football, preferably the Champions League (secured). Domestic domination and definitely the Premiership League Champions (I believe we’ll do this)

Secondly what we have to achieve in the next few Seasons.

Domestic domination and to be a solid Pot 3 UCL team. As we can’t afford to go out and buy a team of that standard (maybe some individual positions if we are clever in the market) we must select both internally and externally prospects that we can mould into that level of player.

It also of course means (in peer group terms) we will have a squad of real quality and real monetary value.

If there has been a bit of a hiatus and I don’t believe there is as such. It has come for the time, resources and risk we have spent on this VERY CRUCIAL aspect of our Clubs future.

    Hail Hail

  3. FFS…I must be getting bypassed by Brendan Rodgers…for some MAD reason he never calls me up days before any game to tell me who’s playing and who’s not in the next match ?

Does Tam Rogic know he’s being dropped v Bayern ?

  4. Stranraer?

Only time i met the Queen was there.

Was working for a Landscape Architects who did a big new masterplan for Agnew Park, Stranraer. Complete with wee rail line.

Opening ceremony boss says do you want to go down and meet her madge. Of course says i, why not?

Day of ceremony, it’s sweltering. Sea cadets, army, navy. All standing to attention, I’m sat on a bench.

HM is an hour late. Aforementioned still standing stock still.

    Queens roller comes into view.

One by one all these wee cadets start passing out, fainting from heat exhaustion, getting dragged out of site. Am pissing myself laughing.

We form a line and I’m last in line. She is tiny by-the-way.

Queenie asks me “Is the weather always this inclement in Stranraer?”

“Dunno mam, I’m from Glasgow, it was p… raining when i left!” (Just caught myself there)

    “Very good, always loved Glasgow.”

With that she is gone followed by her entourage and the ‘commander’ with a big feather sticking out his bunnet.

Don’t know what became of Agnew Park.

    Sorry for long post.

Sack BR and appoint Mad Mitch now!

    …………………….

I second that motion, count me in.

If Brendan Rodgers HAS ANY players in that dressing room with so called “PETTED LIPS”…( according to one poster)…then it is a dereliction of duty by Rodgers if he is not dealing with it, and he should be sacked immediately !

IF ANY Celtic players are guilty of having Petted Lips …then Brendan should be ” naming and shaming them ” in Public…and Celtic should fine them at least a weeks wages,.

Who needs the smsm when some so called Celtic fans do their jobs for them ??

  8. CB @ 10.11

Have to disagree with you on a number of levels.

High: consolidation 12 months in — no, no and thrice no.

We have only just got started.

Low: we needed a CB more than another MF.

Plus EK — who really stepped up yesterday — was a Jan signing.

My thoughts are that we as a club were a bit lazy in the summer.

Not sure if the targets drifted away or we are trying to save money — CB in on a Bosman next year rather than good money now?

No sure but we have not kicked on at any level.

That is a big disappointment for me — the money is there.

Just a case that we are not choosing to spend it in the right areas.

  9. CB @ 10.11

We passed up an £800K CB.

We have chosen to increase the salary of our CEO by £500K.

    We have much to learn.

    ………..

Yes Mick …I often drank with the CAD …More so AFTER HOURS.

I would also have the occasional dance with the lovely Vicky and her sister Janice especially in the Ranjurs end of Bairds ( The Lounge LOL) to some Disco music etc.

Come to think of it…I sometimes danced with the CAD !

Bairds closed around the end of 2012..or maybe 2013 I think

In Bairds Bar on most Friday/Saturday nights…there was “Money Folk” drinking in there, dripping in GOLD.

I lumbered and went out with some of The Bairds Bar Gals over the years…..I still miss those days.

  12. HOT SMOKED on 29TH OCTOBER 2017 8:35 AM

For most of the first half, we passed the ball about at speed and dominated Killie like we have not dominated any other team this season . Second half, we were poor and Kilmarnock punished us for that. Injuries to Paddy and Olivier disrupted any intended changes which might have remedied/prevented the drop in composure. Killie deserved their draw and did not resort to hammer-throwing . We deserved to equal the record. A truly remarkable achievement.

I agree, and said so after the game.I think our problem some time, and that includes our 1st pick team,is that at Celtic Park,we have so much of the ball,we get a bit careless, sloppy,in the 2nd half.So many games we have lost points, this has happened.I know BR does not ask the players to ease up,I think its a wee bit lack of strength in the players mentality.I have seen it with Barca in games.Away from home we seem totally different.Seems crazy to say,you can have too much of the ball, but at home,I think its true.

Anyway, always plus points.Eboue,Ntcham,Ajer,Johnston, all could be stars for us.

It’s amazing how people start communicating and they find

common ground, big Duncan was a player i thought would

have done a turn for the bhoys back then but only to batter

the Ragers, obviously football has moved on as we see the

pure silky soccer from Bendan’s team.

And just as strange his sister worked with me as a services

cleaner on the oil rigs and as far as i can remember the

legend Tommy Burns dad was a work colleague.

  15. Morning all

Not a great tone on the blog today and I doubt I will lighten the mood much even if my 3 year old grandnephew opined last evening:

    JIMBO MEANS PARTY

I do not like to criticise and on Saturday evenings like to come on here and praise the team and Brendan Rodgers. But yesterday was poor fare and probably the first game I have been at since Brendan took over where I thought we had no periods of playing well. That must be over 60 games so that is not a bad record but still it was poor and unnecessarily so. Unnecessarily so as I believe the wholesale changes made to the team were not called for. As we are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League knockout I think that the league becomes at least as important as Europe and now should be the time to be ruthless in it, racking up the wins as our rivals cut each others’ – and in the Huns’ case probably their own- throats. The fielding of weakened/experimental teams has not worked in the league this season other than at New Douglas Park which worked a treat as we played James F wide with Paddy virtually as an inside right. Yesterday might have been a good day to try it again. I think the right idea might have been to play a near full strength team and then when we are cruising to bring on 3 younger or fringe players with 35 to play.

I am worried about Scott Sinclair whose confidence might have taken a dip after a (hardly catastrophic) drop in form and being left on the bench for the last two games. I do not know if I would pick him on Tuesday. The other worry for me is Tom Rogic. I do not know whether it was the effects of several long haul flights over the last few weeks but I thought he looked lacking energy to the point of looking lethargic in Munich and against Hibs. Yesterday was not much better and he looked unusually out of touch on the ball. He is arguably our most skilful player but as an observer I can only observe that something seems not right with him.

I know that our overall position is healthy and that I have become too accustomed to excellence these last 16 months but I am also concerned that our rate of progress is slowing. I hope to be proved wrong on that score

    ………………

Re Tam Rogic……didn’t he play rather excellent v Aberdeen on Wednesday ?

    HH

Another POSSIBLE reason ( cos Brendan doesn’t phone me to explain for some reason ?) that 2 or 3 regular players may have a wee off day now and again, due to some personal changes on any given match day…oh and the fact the opposition at times are happy to stick 11 men behind the ball…and also the fact that it’s a game of fitba…and anything could happen ?

IMO..once our CL position is known ( Europa league maybe ?), then Brendan MAY NOT be so quick to make wholesale changes to hopefully a winning domestic team ?

Brendan has obviously GOT to make several changes at domestic level for several reasons…one being any upcoming CL game ?

whilst we are still in with a wee chance of getting decent results in the CL Group, including the money on offer for picking up even 1 point, then Brendans hands are somewhat forced, when it comes to trying a balancing act in terms of player selection imo.

2 Do you know how to open 2 internet windows at the same time.

3 Do you use internet explorer to access the internet.

    LMCBHOY – Thank You.

    MADMITCH @ 10:36 AM,

Have to disagree with you on a number of levels.

High: consolidation 12 months in — no, no and thrice no.

We have only just got started.

Low: we needed a CB more than another MF…

(*Plus EK — who really stepped up yesterday — was a Jan signing.!

*Apologies, was thinking of N’tcham but the point applies equally. We need to buy this sort of player to progress.)

Well, on the consolidation point, you pays your money you take your choice. There is of course a strong argument for building on your strengths. Yet I think our runaway success last Season papered over a lot of cracks in the squad that needed addressing before we went forward.

The Centre Back position is an interesting one. I’m pretty sure the plan was to sell Sviatchenko to FC Kobenhavn and to replace with better.

Sviatchenko got injured and FC Kobenhavn failed to get into the UCL.

Now you could say we should’ve gone for Plan B, as you say we have the money, personally I think Brendan is a Plan A ghuy.

The transfer market, as you know, is not always about throwing money at it… in fact for us in the past our fortunes are definitely mixed in that regard.

Having said that, there is no way I’m immune to the fact that Lenny just wasn’t backed. Also noted, we have “failed” to secure the services of Brendan’s more expensive targets. We definitely need to keep an eye on this.

One thing strikes me though, if we are going to keep the likes of Brendan Rodgers at the Club we will have to be successful in the transfer market, selling players for (>) the sort of fees Lenny was doing at his peak and not wasting money on the flops that were bloating out an unmanageable squad.

    That takes knowledge and experience.

I’m convinced there is a strategy afoot, that will bring us success and the fact that Brendan hasn’t compromised it for short term gain indicates to me the strength and depth of the man.

We quickly fell in love, and it wasn’t til about a month later she confessed that she and her husband were in fact still together ( she had told me they were separated ?)…but love is love…and I ran around with her for about 9 years or so, before I got fed up with the situation and binned her..I still miss her very much…but thats life !
