  1. Some harsh words tonight from some people.

I would include myself in that.

It’s hard to take, I want us so much to move forward and develop.

  2. Dublin Noelbhoy on

Always lurking , but seldom post, but enough is enough.

I’am 53 and supported Celtic all my life. Myself, my wife and 5 sons are Celtic mad as is a lot of our extended family. We’ve lived in London for 30 years and brought our sons up to be loud and proud Celtic supporters ( all but 1 are adults now ). My youngest is eight and is actually named after Henrik, ( not bad for an Irish kid living in London, with a Swedish name ). We have 2 season books and have spent thousands and thousands and fkn thousands on traveling to Glasgow and all over Europe and 2 or 3 different shirts every year ( x 6 ). I’am not saying i’am different to anyone else, but i’am the one in charge of MY decisions. You know how hard it is to be ridiculed and laughed at as an adult, but when your a kid and all your mates have Arsenal, spurs, Man U and Liverpool tops on and you always have your Celtic top on and they’re telling you Celtic are crap ( pub team when it’s adults ) then it’s a testament to all my sons for never wavering and took it on the chin, and also a job well done by my wife and I. Last week my youngest bhoy cried when we lost and it killed me.

So enough is enough. To stand by and let anyone take you for a **** is as bad as being a **** . It kills me , but this board has had it’s last penny from me and my family, because we are Celtic supporters, not CASH COWS , we will not stop being Celtic supporters, but we will stop supporting this money mad board. We have paid the first 2 direct debits ( they can keep that £300 ) but they will not be getting the other 6 , or any other shirt purchases this year either. We will return to supporting them financially, when this board is gone, and replaced with one that is interested in OUR FOOTBALL TEAM and not the balance sheet.

Within the space of a year , between the sanitising and demonising of our support and the downsizing of the team they have destroyed a once unique club and replaced it with a debt free laughing stock club , with a average run of the mill support, which in my opinion ,will soon lose it’s global appeal. Depressed HFH !!

  3. This is a dead season

The one we need to endure before the zombies arrive.

then its back to ‘box office’

the hose down the throat has been tenderly removed,

the tanks at the marble staircase quietly shuffled into reverse,

never interfering while our enemy were making mistakes

    nearly eh?

back to the double act, bile n bampottery

Say it ain’t so Peter…………………………please……….. say it ain’t so

  4. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

The Huns have no reason to be scared of PL

He’s a compliant member of the SFA

He’s been great for Sevco ….

  5. So now that we can dispense with all the nonsense about glorious comebacks, it occurs to me that there is a big question to be answered. Stick or twist with Ronnie?

My instinct is that the club will back him for at least a season. I hope they do, because it’s clear to me that the downsizing will continue unabated and Ronnie has a terrific track record of developing young talent. Fraser & Virgil will certainly go and there may be others. I had been scratching my head about the Commons contract situation given that he has been head & shoulders above the rest of our offensive unit, it’s now becoming clearer, Celtic will cheerfully cash him in too given his age and the sort of money being banded about.

The strategy of sourcing and developing young talent to be sold at a later date for profit, has initially been successful in eradicating the clubs debts, but now that has been achieved, the club seems intent on just carrying on raping the first teams resources and gambling on the scouting teams talent spotting. It is a fatal mistake.

The clubs main revenue streams are from supporters (through season book sales) and from UEFA (through Champions League participation). Basically, if the first team is poor, then the former revenue stream is affected, and the latter disappears. So…look after the team!

Instead, what we have now is a situation where the first team is too weak to compete in The Champions League and so the revenue is reduced and the rest of the club shrinks to fit. It is a negative cycle. A downward spiral. A downsizing. As supporters we can only look on, we have precious little power. We have to trust that The Kaiser and his sharpshooter can see what we can see and that they have a plan to rescue the fortunes of the team. Unfortunately, it is not a Martin O’Nielesque 5 year plan of investment, success and recoupment. No, the plan appears to be Ronnie and his talent for developing young players. He will need time. Without Rangers or Champions League football there is nothing to attract proven talent anyway. We must continue to source it cheaply or develop it. This is the road we are on. It will be a long one, but we have nobody else to blame.

In a way I’m relieved that the bourgeois elite of Europe, and particularly of England, will not get the opportunity to pump us this autumn. That’s not the boards thinking of course, that’s fan thinking.

  6. It was bad enough when Man Utd players turned against Moyes. However these were top level EPL and European level players. Not Mulgrew, Stokes,Griffith etc. Lennons buddies indeed. Let’s start again and get shot of players who don’t want to be there. I would back the manager for a full season before taking action. This has been coming. Punching above our weight. We don’t dont compete in Europe we participate. This is a sore one though.

  7. I’m not saying buying two £4m players this summer would have done anything tonight.

We need to spend in January, let the players settle in. From January the rest of the season should be preparation for these qualifiers. As someone else said on the blog this week, let seniors have a few weeks off in April and May, (possibly bring them back for Scottish Cup Final if reached)

Back for June, playing competitive friendlies against Scandinavian opposition midweek, the type of standard we’d face in qualifiers

  8. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

I don’t think that attitude or application were the problem tonight.

Everyone tried, but, unfortunately, we were second best all over the park.

Legia were sharper, more skillful on the ball and were never static.

With the players at our disposal, none of our recent managers would have fared any better.

How can you expect to compete against any competent team with physically and mentally slow players like Stokes,Mulgrew and, sorry to say, Commons, who are static until they get the ball and not much more mobile with it.

Apart from Kris, who will be out of contract, the other two will be hard to shift, which,I suppose, sums them up.

I don’t expect European football this season, but it should give everyone space to get things moving forward.

We have been a dull team since Henrik left, so, hopefully, we can change thst.

I look forward to reading about double training and coaching sessions and a job lot of players golf clubs up for grabs on eBay.

Time to get professional Celtic, in all departments and put the sacred cows out to pasture.

Who tried to turn him into one?

  10. tictaewin

Well if we added another 6 at that value and of that quality, we would be in pretty good shape.

Maybe spending a sum of money isn’t really the answer and really doent guarantee you anything.Maybe good scouting in the right areas would be a better solution. Maybe we made some bad choices lately and spent our limited money on some not very good football players.

Maybe screaming for millions of pounds to be spent for the sake of it is a simplistic knee jerk reaction?

  11. Can’t believe anyone on here thinks that any team will stump up more than 3 or 4 million for Virgil Van Djyk…….and that is if Lawell gets very lucky.

The guy is unconvincing,to put it kindly,at any level of football above SPFL.

Think Ronny and Johnny might be stuck with him this season as he tries to look like Baresi or Beckanbauer against Aberdeen and Dundee United.

VVD is at least 2 years away from playing consistently at a decent level , if we’re honest.

His performances have been there to see for everyone.

Not quite as inept as Big Dan the Swede was, but nowhere near a top player yet.

There was a story about deidco on just before they interviewed RD, I never heard it, just the end comment that it was bad news for der Hun…..that didn’t even lift my spirit.

    Don’t give a shit about them I

Only care what’s happening to my club.

It was a reply to your post forgot to tag you.

Henning Berg was so confident he pushed his team even further up in the second half!

It takes a whole series of events to create a cluster funk like we saw tonight, the seeds of that result were sown last season, I could list some of them but what’s the point tonight!

Players will go and players will come, my one bright spot is that the young players coming through Lennoxtown like McGregor and Henderson seem to understand how football is played now and for some of our players, well ye canny teach an old dug new tricks!

It’ll be a a while before we all get over this display and the clubs reaction to it will be very telling I reckon.

A team that can’t pass the ball to each other and has no goalscorer is not going to get very far, we have some players already in the squad but new blood and a mini clear out is needed, let’s hope we see it and let’s hope Ronny can get his players in.

Anything else could see this season dissolve into a war of attrition on here and in the Celtic family..

  14. Canalamar

I was thinking the same. If it’s competitive football that puts bums on seats -and studies show it is – the Celtic’s decision not to spend to try and win a CL spot and make the SPFL totally uncompetitive in the process is the kind of dilemma other clubs in small leagues face.

It’s just the economics of current football.

As Cork Celt says if the title race is tighter folk will attend. Crowds rise and Kevjungle will have one less chastisement on his list.

Who would want to run a football club?

  15. the glorious balance sheet on

Completely scunnered by my experience at the game tonight. It felt like anything but a “home” game.

I was in the East Stand. There were pockets of Polish Legia fans dotted throughout the stand.

After Legia scored their first goal a mass brawl broke out with people knocking seven shades of you know what out of each other. Young children and women were being caught up in this, police nowhere to be seen, stewarding useless.

It was stupid of Celtic to sell the Legia fans tickets for the Celtic end. It caused unnecessary tension. Love of cash clearly trumps spectator safety as well as footballing success for our board.

Its amazing that our club will collude with the authorities in hammering the Green Brigade for singing certain songs but they`re happy to risk spectator safety by selling tickets to visiting fans for the Celtic end.

  16. On bus returning home.Have seldom felt so down, I recognised the strips but little else..

  17. the glorious balance sheet on

Incidentally I must say well done to Legia Warsaw. They worked for and deserved their win. I hope they get through to the CL group stages.

  18. Dublin Noelbhoy,

I think the board need new direction or the fans will not be dwindling away as they have in the last 6 years, but will be driven away.

They will make the mistake of pitting their hopes on the Sevco Rainbow….the sun will be gone by the time the rain returns.

    Woosterbhoy,

Legia were the superior team over the 2 legs. They had good shape and tactically played the perfect tie. Had they not missed 2 penalties then the score would have been 8-1 and a more honest reflection of what happened over the 2 games.

If you look at these games objectively, you will realise in terms of the lower national leagues of Europe we are a very poor team technically, tactically and have no strength, speed or commitment.

Legia are a decent side and I expect them to qualify to CL. So to answer your question, yes, they are a superior club in terms of football.

You only see what you want to see.

    ————————————————-

I was just asking the question.

You have answered it without mentioning money.

They were a better side in terms of football. My guess, and it is a guess, is that it was without riches beyond our means. If that is correct why didn’t we match them?

  20. Auldheid. No I’m not being silly. Those who prop us this regime at celtic and ignore or even worse excuse the lack of ambition and parsimony are allowing the situation to get worse. You are a firm board apologist these days (what this says about the future o f res 12 is another question). You are helping them justify the unjustifiable.

  25. Very worried about our future, Forster and VVD will go in this window and possibly one or two others, and if Berget is the standard we’re going to bring in then I suspect our standard will drop even further, winning the title won’t be a gimme this season, Sevco are catching us up without actually improving themselves, It’s time for a change of direction and a freshness, IMO this situation is mainly down to PL and it’s time he fell on his sword. If only we had a Billionaire to invest in their club ? Maybe DD feels he doesn’t have enough money.
