  1. Well done to the GB displaying a banner urging a young Rangers fan gets better soon.

I saw the banner from the opposite end and wondered what it was about.. Seemingly Ryan is a young child battling leukaemia.

A simple human gesture like this can speak so much.

Glasgow City are dominant for a reason. They took the Ladies game seriously when others didn’t.

They have even applied to join the English game because of this reason.

Imo, Celtic and others only started really taking an interest sfter the game had taken off in England and the rest of Europe. ( Look at the attendances at Barcelona Wembley etc )

Seemingly it’s now the fastest growing sport.

Glasgow City play at Petershill Park with a 1k capacity.

I would like to see a purpose built Barrowfield stadium with circa the same capacity and more intregation.

This must surely figure on our stadium upgrade which is surely inevitable .

    Cheers and HH.

Countdown to Dublin visit with Brian M. Any of the Irish based lads who are available for selection, it would be great to meet you. Almore, Coneybhoy and possibly WITS unless he’s fecked off to sunnier climes should be there. Probably meeting in the James Connolly at Eden Quay. Come on down and let the good times roll.

  4. GreenPinata – thanks for the explanation. I wrongly assumed that once Celtic Ladies and Rangers Ladies took the game seriously, they would hoover up all the best talent by throwing money at it.

Celtic or Trangers are new to the Scottish woman’s game.

They have no history in the game

They had zero interest in it until recently.

    None.

    Until pro leagues

Glasgow City, was really the only outlet before sfa took woman’s seriously then clubs came in

It is aiming for parity in the game

Without organic growth in the womans game

today’s game at Hampden an example,a few thousand in one stand, empty terraces.would have been better at love St or Scotstoun, firhill, fir park for atmosphere.

  7. Girls 1 up and John Higgins 8-0. Brilliant start from Higgins v Wilson, who has been in great form. Would love to see John win it again. Tough match for whoever wins, as they’re likely to face Mark Selby next.

  8. AT – Cheers. WIll be a shame if City get brushed aside, having been the only show in town, by the SPL teams due to lack of spending power.

    Hail Hail

  10. I remember years back during the Thatcher era, they had an initiative to charge pensioners a pound, £1, for any journey on the trains, no matter where they wanted to go, it was a £1, the trains were full, folks were spending money at their destinations and were having a great time all around, then they stopped it as quick as they started it, my point being, if they want the womens game to grow, charge a £1 or £2 to get crowds in, it would work IMO.

It would be a shame, mates daughter played for them years ago,he took one of the unders teams

It was hard work and they were all devoted, fund raising endlessly playing other teams in similar situation, as it really barely had any support like the men’s game by sfa.

That changed once big clubs came in.

I would suspect there is maybe a bit of lingering resentment now the big pro clubs come in with their funding, they won’t need to fund raise etc.

  12. Re John McNamee I was going to post a piece on it last night but opted for my kip instead, I like some of the oul wans on here luved him as like big John Cushley he was a very non compromising defender and replaced the much loved Paddy Crerand when he was sold and like Paddy, John also ran foul of the dictator that ran us at the time but luckily for him that mhan that signed him for us actually went back in for him when he left the Pars for the Hibbees, who were on the verge of an unprecedented double when the call of Celtic proved too much for him.

John left Easter Road for the toon shortly after but not before I saw him humphin the Bear out on the left touchline in a LC replay at the bigot dome, incidentally the last neutral cup game played there after the Hibbees complained about favouritism toward the establishment side, he was sent off that night, whilst at the toon he seemingly appeared for the warm up against the huns in a European tie wearing his beloved hoops just tae urinate off the travelling panzer division.

` we’ve one massive season defining game next Sunday `

We have already won the League Cup. If we also win win the league but lose in the Cup Semi-Final, how would you define our season?

I’d define it as a good season.

There’s no down playing next Sunday, we’re effectively 90 mins away from a treble. It’s huge.

  16. the long wait is over on

    My tuppence worth on yesterday.

If that had been a game earlier in the season we would have done whatever it took to win it. We can’t expect the players to have that steamrollering, all conquering desire to win a match which , effectively, was meaningless.

Motherwell are a one man team. Their play acting was embarrassing. And no , we don’t do that ourselves when playing “bigger “ teams.

We made several errors leading up to their goal.

    Watch the highlights:-

O’Riley takes the corner far too quickly. CCV and Starfelt are not close to being in position which meant Iwata didn’t have time to fall back to give Taylor cover. O’Riley – who I thought had an off day – then give the ball away too easily.

Hart’s positioning was poor. There wasn’t another Motherwell player anywhere close so he didn’t need to worry about covering a pass to another Motherwell player. He should have closed the angle better.

    Haksabanovic was poor overall.

Some of the players looked like their minds were on next week.

Having said all of that it might also have been that it was just one of those days.

Yesterdays result improves our chances of winning next week , not the opposite. The players will feel they’ve something to prove.

If we have our full first picks fit I think we’ll win comfortably.

I was at that LC semi-final v Hibs at Ibrox and clearly remember John McNamee being sent off. I was only 12 and was quite sad that the Celtic support seemed to turn against him that night, even before he was sent packing.

John Cushley was also a non-compromising English teacher, was even hard as nails as a teacher, remember my father giving me into trouble as I think I was a bit cheeky to my then English teacher … my old man told me off for giving an (unofficial) Lisbon Lion cheek…. I was oblivious back then and Mr Cushley never spoke about football … my mum and aunt were cleaners at the same school and they all thought the world of him …. Again never saw him playing football but he was a scary teacher :-)

*you’ll remember the first game then when we equalised with the last kick of the ball in the 90th minute with big Tam surging down the wing similar tae our last minute title winner against Morton a couple of years later when the buzz bomb also tapped it home after it rebounded off a Hibbee player, that was a crackin Hibs side who were top of the League at the time with the likes of Pat Stanton, big John, Peter Cormack, who allegedly refused tae sign for us so we opted for Wispy, Pat Quinn, who would have, Jim Scott brother of the hun star alec, and Neil Martin, another player Jock coveted but who also allegedly turned us down as Jock widnae guarantee him a starting spot for EVERY game as we didnae do that for any player and managed by Jock’s pal who he recommended as his successor Bob Shankly, Bills brother, who led Dundee to their only title and also the following season to the semis of the EC where they lost 5-2 on aggregate to the eventual winners AC Milan, he also survived the car crash with Jock which virtually ended Jock’s club managerial career

That replay took place 2 weeks after the first game and only 5 days before the final, the one where our players were attacked by the hun thugs and had the lap of honour for ALL clubs banned. In the replay we were vastly superior and literally gubbed Hibs 4-0, big John was actually only booked by r ight h un davidson but protested so vehemently that he ended up sending him off but not before booking him again but that was not the end of it as he had tae be held back at the end of the game in the tunnel by Pat Stanton and Peter Cormack as he had a go at the durty hun mitb, right after the game Hibs flogged Neil Martin

*I saw John playing against us in the last game I was ever at with my da practically on his boyhood doorstep, as I re-emigrated a couple of months later, it was at Boagheid in a SC game, we had Andy Lynch at centre while Donald Watt, Wispy and big John were playing for the Sons, Tom McAdam equalised for them early doors in a hard fought game which we eventually prevailed 2-1.

My main memory of that day was John saving a red faced Kenny from being sent off as he raised his fist tae Wispy who was clearly winding him up, John actually pulled his fist back.
