Rosenborg’s turbulent week went from bad to worse during the meeting with Celtic in Scotland. In Rini Coolen’s first settlement as a Rosenborg coach, RBK got a best imaginable start against an unutilized Celtic defense, but eventually the scots became too strong.

After Ingebrigten’s departure, Rosenborg players and fans have expressed their support for the man who has led Rosenborg to three series gold. Against Celtic, it did not appear that the dismissal gave the desired outcome for the trønder club.

“Rosenborg must do something about his defense game. There is a lot to be addressed next week if they are hoping to move on, Eurosport expert commentator Bengt Eriksen concluded.

The Rosenborg coach Coolen also admits that the team was saved by a good keeper of André Hansen.

“Celtic was the best team. There is no doubt about it. But all the boys worked well and the game worked very well, especially the first half hour. We were lucky for a few moments. Our keep saved us sometimes, said Coolen after the match, according to TV 2 .

Celtic lacked more players from his best show, and Brendan Rodgers had to recruit a brand-new defense fighter, including Kristoffer Ajer, and a rarely used former Rosenborg back in Christian Gamboa, as two of the chosen ones.

Celtic is a strong home team and lost only a home game in the league last season, against Aberdeen in the final series round. After a foul start, there was little doubt that the green and white striped were clearly the strongest team this evening. The final result could be far worse for the Norwegian Serie Masters.

Especially in the second half the level difference between the two teams was huge. Rosenborg failed to get close to the Celtic players who sometimes played through the thrones.

“It has been too slow with the legs in the midfield trio to Rosenborg. Anders Trondsen and especially Marius Lundemo have not managed to get up to the Celtic players who have got too much room ahead of the Rosenborg defense, “said Eriksen during the second round.

Lars Tjærnås compares the performance with what Rosenborg delivered before they managed to get into the tournament seriously.

“The last 45 minutes was an ice-cold guf from the distant Europe past of Rosenborg,” writes Tjærnås on T witter.

    Good Rosenborg start

Odsonne Edouard came to the finish line, but Andre Hansen was in control.

Rosenborg was well placed and created uncertainty in Celtic’s rear row. After a clever attack, Helland came to the post, which was very close to ending Bendtner’s head on the back post.

After the block, the coaches took the lead, and after a brilliant counterattack.

Mike Jensen got the ball on the midfield and found Pål André Helland in a great room on the right. Helland stepped into the field, pierced past Celtic captain Scott Brown and found Bendtner. The Danish slipped into the field and hit a millimeter thesis sticking to Birger Meling who, at first touch, put the ball in the nearest corner.

    Celtic grip tak

After scoring, Celtic took hold of the game. Celtic often came to shots, but usually from a long team, without causing trouble for Hansen.

After half past six, Callum McGregor came home to the best chance in the match, with a shot just outside the sixth, but again Hansen was well on the score.

A few minutes later, the whole Celtic Park shouted at the penalty after a duel between Edouard and Hedenstad. James Forrest took the ball into the path and found Edouard, but the Frenchman walked over at the reception when Hedenstad went tough in his back.

Judge Bart Vententen did not listen to the home crowd and allowed play to continue.

The Celtic press just continued and at the end, Rosenborg did not manage to resist. Scott Sinclair found Edouard in front of goal and the 20-year-old Frenchman had time to take the ball and place it in goal at the nearest post.

There was reason to ask questions about the defensive game of Even Hovland who became overly passive and allowed Edouard to finish relatively uninterrupted.

    Turned the match and dominated

Rosenborg could nevertheless be pleased to bring the draw to a break and collect the troops a little before the second round. Instead, it seemed as if the thorns fell asleep in the wardrobe.

40 seconds of second round was what Celtic needed to take the lead. Olivier Ntcham received the ball just outside the 16th goal, elegantly pulled Lundemo out of the way, and knocked it home to the ball.

Six minutes into the game, Celtic could have increased the lead. MacGregor lifted a post to the back post and took Hansen a little on the bed, but Rosenborg’s keeper just got back and got a hand on the ball and hit it in the post and out.

It was Celtic up and you meant at the start of the second round. Edouard was close to his second goal tonight when “the Bhoys” got a free kick from dangerous teams, but the attempt turned right outside.

    From bad to worse

Rosenborg raced on Alexander Søderlund to create greater pressure offensive, but it was still Celtic who came to the great opportunities.

Ntcham did not believe in his own shot foot and tried again from the long run halfway in the round. The Frenchman once again got a brilliant match and André Hansen got the help of the crossbar when he got a hand on the ball.

Rosenborg worked to create some pressure in the future, but instead ended up with a big mistake and backlash.

Anders Trondsen played the ball right in front of James Forrest, who easily found Edouard alone with Hansen. The Celtic striker made no mistake with Hansen and flipped the ball over Rosenborg’s outcrying goalkeeper to his second scoring for the evening.

It was the last scoring of the home team for the evening, thus ensuring a good starting point before returning to Trondheim.”

    Some wonderful wee mis-translations there–

I wonder where Callum was out to, until half past 6.

Whatever “ice-cold guf” is, I think I’ve heard it and spoke it.

It must be murder when you have thorns falling asleep in your wardrobe.

McGregor took Hansen a little on the bed???

And, finally we have an outcrying goalkeeper. Craig Gordon will have to do better at this crying malarkey. Can’t have a Celtic keeper being outcried by a pub team keeper

Hibs doing the old sh!te the bed thing again. Even Derek McInnes and The Bottlemerchants are trying to do their bit…

Watching the game from Croatia has me worried about facing Sevco .

My worry is what we will do to their defence and and if there are any humanitarian laws that could protect them.

Mc.Lean and Stewart are talking them up at every turn.

  6. Jimmynotpaul on

I’m happy with performance last night, but the unknown is how good/bad/average are Rosenborg.

I know football isn’t as simple as this, but as we know, Rosenborg were seconds and a dodgy pen away from going out to Valur, they in turn are losing 1.0 in Andorra tonight with minutes remaining.

Tougher tests await, in the expectation that we progress to next qualifying round.

    Hail Hail

  7. Been switching between three matches this evening. Hibs – oh dear. Dons – doing well. Sevco – why are they wearing a training top? Did someone mess up the registration of kits for European games? Or problems with suppliers? And Flanagan is woeful. Kent ain’t much better.

Well, as predicted, I couldn’t get wifi to watch the game, and cqn seemed to be out – but it couldve been just my poor moby reception.

From feedback I got today, it seems we couldve taken 4 or 5 after a dodgy first 25 mins. Saw the goals: Eddies chip points to a really cool head to go with that skill, and Ntchams goal only adds to my view that we have something very special in him – possibly more so than Eddie or Dembele.

  10. Jimmynotopaul- hard to say how good Rosenborg are but what we can say is that Celtic moves the ball about very well, the ball control, pace, fitness, passing and most of the vital signs of a decent team were there. Defensively it’s harder to say. One slip and a goal aside we weren’t troubled too much. But we need strengthening at the back regardless.

We looked like a settled side last night. Sinclair had his best game in ages too. Looked back to form.

I took a back seat to posting due to the majority shooting me down, and maybe I never really got my point across due to the ‘Old Tim’s’ running the show.

I’ve been reading lots on BR’s approach to the game and what I’ve concluded is that regardless of the ‘modern game’ and all the riches that come with it, is that BR is sticking to the old tried and tested formula of a TEAM. Jock done it, Shankley done it, Ferguson done it…FFS Souness done it! What we as a fanbase don’t have is patience. I don’t mention Martin O in this because I do not even class hi in the same regard…He had a cheque book to match the original Rangers. I believe we are riding on the crest of a wave, and being Scottish I think the majority of fans will think this is as good as it will get. I believe that is a wrong assumption, and to observe how we are growing on even a 3-6 basis confirms my thoughts.

I believe that if we stick by BR, the bold Pistol Pete and of course the team that is selected for whatever games we play then we are in for a rollercoaster ride :) That of course brings us happiness as well as disappointments.

We should all be in this together, success was never gained overnight, ask Sir Alex. That man stuck by his team over and over. And so should we!

We have the history, we have the pedigree, we’re on the one road.

God bless Glasgow Celtic going forward! The story and the history will always be pushing forward.

  12. Early season form by Odsonne Edouard suggests we should have been wearing a mask with our hooped shirt when negotiating with PSG to buy him.

And before the English teachers come out and scrutinise my post – I’m only voicing my opinions, I know I’ve left a trail of errors for you to pick the bones at :) It’s a blog, get over it.

    EC67,

He does look like the real deal… Dembeles nigglin injuries bother me a bit, I hope he can get a good run this season as Id like to see more of what the two of them can do in the same team. Weve still got Rogic to slot in, and I do like the look of Lewis Morgan

Fair play to Croatia for giving a Girl Guides to the chance to take part in this competition.

    Personally I prefer Football!

So Hibs clean up the jobby stains a bit with some toilet roll…

They’ll need to wash those sheets…you know, like Spud wanted to do in Trainspotting.

    Must be an Edinburgh thing…

  17. The Huns hang on for a 1-0 win away from home. A good result on the face of it. I watched the second half, the Croats dominated but had nothing in terms of quality in the final third. The smsm will wax lyrical on the basis of the result but from what I saw Sevco were quite poor. They couldn’t keep hold of the ball and offered little on the break. I would say they look a bit more solid in the centre of defence, the trio of gk and two centre backs look ok so far. They are murder in the full back positions however and lacking in quality in all other areas. My analysis is that we would take care of them without any problems. A bit more quality and composure and the Croats would have won and could still win the second leg.

Some dreadful spelling and rotten grammar but that apart there is a kernel of sense in your post.

However in future please try and use the following words where appropriate.

HEATED DRIVEWAY SUITS CORPORATE SOULLESS EMPTY PARK BACK OF THE BUS ETC ETC..Oh and of course RIGGED BETRAYED

  19. Watched first half of Sevco game. There defence looks better than last season (we’ll maybe just beat them 3-0), Goldson looked decent, the wife beater at left back can defend a lot better than the jokers they’ve had there last 2 season. Ahead of that, much the same as before, the new midfielder just appears to be there to foul, no ability whatsoever.

I watched the Forces of Darkness (Mark II).

Kent and Ejaria (the Liverpool academy loanees) have a trick or two in them but also were didpossed quite easily on several occasions. Katic looks a bomb scare ,Flanagan nothing special, Goldson looks decent but he is no Bruno Alves.

That said any win away in Europe has to be complimented in the spirit of Corinthian sportsmanship

  22. Not that it’s important to me, but I think Odsonne has blessed himself on a number of occasions. The important thing is that these three lads (lhads} seem to be very close friends and that Moussa and Olli appear to be very protective towards Odsonne as demonstrated when he went off injured at the end of the season (Hearts) ?.

What I thought was very funny was the video of the three of them in their big 4×4 after the 5-0 Hunskelping with a Celtic jersey hanging from their end ndow and all three singing along with Tupac, “Hail Mary” on their car stereo. What really matters is that all three keep fit and the team benefit this season. I love them all ………… oh and do they have any mates who are good defenders? ?
