The French trio – incredible that we have such players with so much quality. So young yet so mature and with such good temperaments and work ethic. The Club deserve great credit for bringing them in, it is a real coup. There are arguments as to who is the best of the three, but the best thing you can say is that there is merit to each argument. It is such a joy to have them and we should all enjoy them while it lasts.

I noticed on the BBC web coverage of tonight’s games, one of the commentators was described as “Chris Sutton, ex-Chelsea striker” throughout. Someone better tell the Chelsea fans.
– He was at Chelsea for 1 year, 28 appearances in total and scored 1 (one) goal.
– He was at Blackburn for 5 years, 160 appearances in total and scored 47 goals.
– He was at Celtic for 6 years, 160 appearances in total and scored 63 goals.
You know there are some real problems at BBC Scotland when this kinda pish happens.

Am just goin to continue ma ramble about my Portugal wanderings. I do understand that these will be of no interest to many – just scroll by. Its cathartic for me.
I have loved northern portugal, which, in a loose sense has meant most of the country north of the Algarve, for many years now. This isnt meant to be an “i know better than you” because I dont like the tourist resorts. I dont know what I’m doing half the time, or where I’m going. So the following is just the best parts – through accidental wandering i’ve ended up in some shitholes and some gems
JimmyQuinnsBits on
First off… Portugal north of the Algarve is varied, stunning, and incredibly honest. The last part will, unfortunately, change – but you can still go into nightclubs in Porto where girls leave their handbags and purses on their seats and go up and dance, in the confidence that no-one will steal them
JimmyQuinnsBits on
Get a car an go to Porto Covo… it was and still is a fishing village but of course has been dressed up for portuguese tourists. Its real attraction is several beaches each with a different orientation and hemmed in with cliffs which gaurantees, regardless of wind direction, that you can get a sheltered cove
What is the Stars on
Jimmyquinsbits
Now you’re getting interesting, girls nightclubs…do go on
JimmyQuinnsBits on
Next up, Sesimbra…. just do it, one of the few south facing beaches – and therefore gentle – north of the Algarve. Only an hour south of Lisbon, and has some of the best seafood restaurants anywhere in Iberia. Fantastic town
JimmyQuinnsBits on
WITS,
I really cant talk about the girls… its just too upsetting. They do that wedgie thing with the bikini… why did I grow up in Scotland… why… WHY??
JimmyQuinnsBits on
Anyway, where was I…. oh aye, once youve done all that and got the beaches out of your system, head to the real gem.
There are probably many more of these, but I can only speak of two from experience. The real hidden gem of Portugal is inland. Both the Serra da Estrela and the Peneda-Geres national parks are stunning areas where majestic forrested mountains are cut by ravines where probably the last clean water in Europe will flow. I cant stay anywhere where I cant swim and these places have it in abundance. River pools as clear as a bell and a complete joy.

I’m at the end of our holidays – the rest of the BGFC gang are sleeping now ahead of their trip home tomorrow.
Been in Bavaria for the last two weeks, and have a really nice time.
I noticed the word ‘stern’ in your description of the local people. I agree with your dislike of stereotypes, but have also observed that, in general terms, the people we have met have been stern in terms of their adherence to the Bavarian way of life. This, as was explained to me by a few locals, equates to letting people get on with their lives without interference as long as it doesn’t negatively impact on others.
Very easy to speak to locals in the pub, but me and Wee BGFC have both noticed that people do not hesitate to vocally express their displeasure if a rule isn’t followed (like keeping the sauna door open for more than five seconds when exiting) – it can be a bit harsh, and might result in a bit of an exchange of opinions back home (if I knew what they said)!
Scenery in the Bavarian Alps around Garmisch is utterly breathtaking. Every view is like a scene from an idealised fantasy of a perfect world – rolling hills, grass, trees, mountains, clear lakes (nae midges!!!!).
All of that said, now looking forward to the drive home. Girls are flying tomorrow, and me and Wee BGFC are driving. We are going via Koln – going to the cathedral and get a Miraculous Medal blessed for Favourite Uncle, of this parish. Last time I was there was to see Liam Brady’s Celtic getting beat 2:0 – Airdrie Wayside bus 1992 – jeezo!!!
