    St Mary’s huh ?

I notice from your photograph that the new centre will be built over a fence and gate someone very important built 30 odd years ago.

What’s the plans for retaining these iconic pieces ? Or are they to go the way of the Weaver’s garden and St Mungo’s well ?

  2. Had a wee argument with the guy beside me at half time, i thought we were decent first half if not spectacular. He argued we were s****. No argument in the second half as we were excellent. Brown was outstanding and somewhere near his best and Griffiths did well too. I thought Griff worked really hard and pressed very well, still a bit lazy getting back onside at times but an improved contribution this evening. Ajer is a different player with Boyata beside him, I thought Dedryk was exceptional again. Mikey J was perhaps trying a bit too hard, stuck at it thought and had a strong second half. He is one i think will make it long term. Only real negative for me was Lustig, thought he was very poor again.

Thoughts turning to tomorrow now, it looks like Moussa will stay and Boyata too. Mulumbu in and Benkovic was at the game tonight as well so that looks likely. A right back would be superb and if we could clear out 2 or 3 as well then we will all be happier. To little to late for the UCL all the same and not good enough overall. I would hate to think we have been played with the Moussa situation but i have to say, the prospect of the three French lads together this season is mouthwatering.

    MotM – Brown

  3. Just back, thought the midfield trio of Brown sitting deep with Ntcham and McGregor pushing forward were excellent, all three had their best games of the season so far. The only negative is Lustig, easily brushed aside and erratic passing, unfortunately we’re stuck with him as first choice as we won’t sign a RB tomorrow. Christie looked good for his 20 minutes, will be interested if we stick or twist with him tomorrow.

If we bring Edouard, Forrest and Dembele (Rogic if he’s gone) back for Griffiths, Sinclair and Johnston then we should have way too much for them to cope with on Sunday.

  4. Delaneys Dunky on

If the huns draw Dinamo Zagreb, it will be carnage. They want revenge for their stabbed two fellow Croats at Ibrox. They are also huge Celtic supporters.

    Croat/Celt brothers.

  5. Can everyone just go easy in their criticism of Mikael Lustig? As you know he has been a good player for us. He is also lovely human being. Very kind and friendly. A very good family man.

We do need a replacement for him as a first pick. But please treat him with respect.

  6. Just back from the game

Like St. Stiv’s I was anxious about the reaction I would find at CP but that was an enjoyable evening.

    Highlights for me were:-

    1) Running into the Brennan family on the way to the game and speaking with Martin 42 as he showed Dedryk Boyata how to carry on with an injury (his leg was causing him some jip)

    2) The size of the crowd- We often see a crowd reluctance to attend Europa League fixtures so the size of crowd was very healthy (the pitchfork & torches van did a less roaring trade than the burger vans)

    3) The relentless support of the Green Brigade section, even when the match had quieter spells. After their weekend aberration with Dedryk, they deserve some praise.

    4) The leadership and drive from Brown, N’tcham, McGregor, Tierney and Boyata plus a maverick performance from Magic Mickey

    5) Leigh’s 100th goal

    6) The crowd at Dalamarnock station starting a COYBIG chant to distract 2 young guys who were squaring up with each other, especially the guy who started the chant to receive the reply “Come on You Bhoy in Green”

Of course, If I was so minded, I could carp about our profligacy in front of goal. I could even flounce at Brendan having the temerity to drop wee Jamesie. Or I could overlook all the good performances in order to select a player who was merely average and declare them “crap”.

Incidentally, isn’t it terrible that in this day and age, 50% of people are still below average.

I enjoyed tonight and I’ll never be ashamed to admit that, even on a CQN where people want to be left in piece to nurse their misery.

    Well Done, Celtic!

  7. glendalystonsils on

Pleased with the display tonight and looking forward to a good EL run. Transfer window may turn out to be less of a disaster than it might have been ,planning for next season’s CL should begin NOW given the lessons (we should have) learned this window. Replacements lined up for key players , and key weaknesses such as RB.

  8. Big Georges Fan Club - Hail, Hail, Wee Oscar on

Hello, this is WEE BGFC. Great! Can’t wait for the draw tomorrow. Good performance, everybody played fairly well. Clean sheet – 2 out of 2 with Boyata, who, incidentally, is rapidly becoming our best back-kick. Don’t care too much that the hun got in – different team anyway. Onwards and upwards!

    Lustig was fine tonight.

In all honesty KT looked hesitant and reluctant so most of our creative play in first was from right side.

He improved a little in second but still seemed hesitant. Izzy was better and we created more from the left when he came on.

I have been puzzled by KT for parts of last season and this to date.

I deliberately counted his passing in first to see if i was misguided.

He made 22 forward passes,4 square and 28 backwards.

I am pretty sure Lustig played more positive than that.

  10. I kind of feel that the teams confidence has been the main problem.Tonight will have helped.

Always happy and proud to be playing European football til Xmas.

Its something that never happened for around 20 years until Martin Oneill’s era.

I’m looking forward to the Europa draw tommorow and the end of the blasted transfer window.

Time to come back together Celtic fans and back the team and the board.

Peter Lawell has been a good chief exec for me and I feel that he deserve a bit of slack .As long as Brendan remains in his post I will support him.

  11. Great performance tonight. Young Johnstone has a bright future ahead of him.

Izzy was back to the man who staked his claim with us and Broonie was.. Just Broonie – Imperious.

PL has had more slack than he deserves but that’s for another day

Let’s see if he’s as good as he thinks he is tomorrow and I don’t mean mulumbu and benkovic, as welcome as they are

  15. my best draw would be 3 teams we never played before, however the simulator keeps giving me zenit and quarabag, hmmm

  16. FAN-A-TIC on 30TH AUGUST 2018 10:59 PM

KT is not quite himself but we shouldn’t worry about a slight dip in form. Perhaps he las lost just a little confidence but he was solid defensively and done a job overall. Not quite sure why he passes back so often, there was one bizarre moment in the first half when he tried to hook a pass back over his head. Anyway as i said, absolutely fine.

Lustig had a poor first half, he gave the ball away in dangerous areas under no pressure and passed to teammates when he shouldn’t have, placing them in danger. He didn’t support or go beyond Mikey J who was faced with three players. Second half he was a bit better, took the odd foray forward and competed well without giving the ball away. Im reluctant to labour the point and get negative nut i think he is a liability and needs to be replaced.

  17. Alasdair MacLean on

Quick comment before I switch off for the night.

I think people should remember what Kieran Tierney has done the last two years or so.

I was worried about burn-out for him a year ago.

The fact that Izzy is back I believe is a god send for the boy.

Look at his age ffs…..and think back what he’s been through on the pitch.

  18. mullet and co 2 on

So Olympians Lyon want to negotiate through the night.

We could still wind up spending net less than Rodgers has brought in over his 2 years.

    Boyata could still go.

    No right back.

Mulumbu will add what I was looking for. Happy with that but no right back and another loan in a key position.

We must… MUST sort Dembele in January AND replace. How would you project the Centre back positions to look? January? End of season next years qualifiers?

    Ntcham one more season?

    Edouard long term?

I do hope the management team are aware otherwise I fear they the worst

  19. glendalystonsils on

Mulumbu ,31 year old on two year deal and Benkovic on one year loan deal represents a ‘buying time’ transfer window. Same can be said for hanging on to Boyata and Dembele until January.

Let’s hope it gives us time to get things right for next season.

  20. A Big Happy Javean Friday to you, my friends. Got a very good stream (sincere thanks to Blantyretim) for about 65 minutes; plus the last 10. Heartened. In terms of the transfer windiw, looking at us in isolation we could have dobe so much better. But more immediately, a performance similar to tonight’s will be more than enough to secure victory on Sunday. And I have my health. HH

  23. GARY67

At this moment in time we’ve held on to the following players who were reportedly (I know) subject of bids of:

    Tierney £25m

    Boyata £9m

    N’tcham £14m

    Dembele £22m

All this in a summer where we didn’t get CL football and we’ve been told by everyone that champions league failure necessitates a big sale

  24. Haven’t had time to read back but would just love to congratulate El Griffo on reaching his century of goals for Celtic. The difference between the free kick he put over the bar on Sunday against Hamilton and his free kick tonight was two yards – tonight the ref had the wall back 10 yards, as per the rules. On Sunday the wall was only 8 yards back, as per the rules in Scotland when we have a free kick in a dangerous area. Not paranoia, just repeated observations.

Well done Wee Man, many more to come I hope.

  25. ALASDAIR MACLEAN

I agree that he has probably been overused at his young age.

Having a competent back up helps.

But i also feel having to comply with our systems demands has negated some of his strengths and thats affecting his mentality.

In Brendans first season he was rarely flat footed and was aggressive and marauding.

Against Rosenberg,AEK and Suduva i was surprised how hesitant and unsure he looked at times.

  26. glendalystonsils on

    CELTIC40ME on 30TH AUGUST 2018 11:17 PM

We’ve also been told that we don’t budget for CL qualification. That’s fine , as long as selling off the family silver isn’t the fall-back position.

  27. CELTIC40ME on 30TH AUGUST 2018 11:17 PM

Keeping players we already have isn’t strengthening the squad. It’s great we are, but we should be building on that.

Not qualifying for the CL was as a direct result of not strengthening the squad.

Don’t need a big sale to compensate for no CL money if we don’t spend (net), especially after qualifying for the last 2 seasons and having £30m cash in the bank. (Still won’t be surprised to see Moussa go for £20m tomorrow and a loaned arriving to replace him).

It’s always the same, don’t strengthen from a position of strength, hit a plateau and start again.

  28. Alasdair MacLean on

    FAN-A-TIC,

    Fair comment….I see your point.

Not so much a criticism of the boy, but a concern about the coaching / tactics.

Here’s hoping things fall for him on Sunday!
