Busy night for Charlie Gallagher. I guess he couldn’t possibly have answered all the questions asked of him?

Wonderful memories and thoughts from Charlie Gallagher tonight and what a moving post to El Diego Bhoy. CQN at its best.

Sorry to see Dundee Utd go down…that’s at least two fewer Celtic games here in Dundee next season :-(

Sorry to miss Charlie’s input tonight. A real pleasure to read back through his posts. I was born in ’71, but my dad (about to turn 73) raves about the Vojvodina game to this day, that towering late winner from big Billy. His birthday is in a fortnight and would love to get him a signed copy if anyone can advise?

Just a couple of other points.

Leicester City. Bravo. Great story, even if you are owned by a Thai billionaire (which is becoming a bit of a cliche in the EPL).

James Forrest. Read your blog re Sevco. An emphatic hear, hear. Let them off the hook and we’re done for. They will stop at nothing to restore the old order. If we are complicit in that we are fools that deserve everything coming to us.

    Peter l,

Not a chance in a million years this Celtic board will challenge the theft and cheating.

    Not a hope pal.

  9. Charlie Gallagher, by all accounts, was a class act on the field. Tonight he has proven he was an even classier act off it.

4 months until doomsday for me .. Nah can’t wait. All the best with organising.

  13. I met Charlie Gallagher a couple of years ago at an evening at CP, had a chat.

Now I am too young to remember Charlie, (yes I am)but told him I told Auld Doc I was going to a do and Charlie would be there.

Auld Doc told me about watching Charlie cross the ball for Billy to head home.

He couldn’t decide which was more important, 1965 Scottish Cup Final or the Vojvodina European Cup Semi Final.

From memory, neither could Charlie. He was just delighted to have delivered both.

Couldnae imagine the carnage if the orange toy soldiers walked through Clydebank. Thankfully the council and polis know the same. Whitecrook would start a civil war. ;))

Great to see and read Charlie Gallagher on the blog tonight. Many of his answers were very insightful and very ineteresting.

I am delighted for Claudio Ranieri who is a good football man and always has been.

    BUT

Before everyone gets too carried away re Leicester there is something you should read.

They have undoubtedly spent less that the Man Utd’s, Arsenals and Chelseas of this world but the fact is that there is an ongong investigation into their accounts by the FA and that investigation is into accounts which go back to well over a year ago.

If your accounts haven’t been cleared from last season how can you be permitted to play in this season?

When football lays down rules, when it sets pre- requisites for putting players on the field then the rules should apply to everyone without fear or favour and the English FA should not back away from a situation which might yet see Leicester’s season totally ruined by the failure of the club’s owners to play by the financial rules.

    Read more here http://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/11/leicester-city-finances-football-league-financial-fair-play-investigation?CMP=share_btn_tw

If this takes away from Ranieri’s football achievement I will be gutted but we know only too well what happens when football looks the other way because it is inconvenient to face up to the truth and the proper application of the financial and governance rules.

  18. THE GLORIOUS BALANCE SHEET on 2ND MAY 2016 6:31 PM

    Burnley78-

Martin O’Neill did not nearly take Celtic to the brink of bankruptcy.

He wasn’t exactly throwing wads of cash about during his time as manager.

He took in £6 million for the mercenary Viduka and spent the same sum on Chris Sutton.

    That’s good business I’d say.

He had the imagination to pluck a striker from hibs for £80000 (agathe) and convert him to right wing back and put him right into the team.

How many guys did Martin O’Neill sign for above £2.5 million? I can think only of Sutton (with the Viduka money), valgaeren and Hartson.

He got the best out of guys who had been under performing at the club – Petta, lambert, petrov and Mjallby.

Oh and he picked up Ramon vega on a free too. What a difference that guy made to the treble run-in in 2001.

The revisionist caricature of Martin O’Neill as a guy who only succeeded by dint of spending huge wads of cash and who nearly bust the club in the process is risible.

He left the club with 57000 season ticket holders and it’s highest standing in Europe for over 30 years. We are light years from that now.

Martin O’Neill didn’t bankrupt Celtic. A CEO who presides over dwindling attendances and repeated substantial financial losses in the transfer market, failed managerial appointments etc while taking £1 million a year out of a sub-£50 million a year turnover business – that’s a greater threat to bankruptcy than Martin oneill ever was.
