Chasing Celtic will bankrupt the Tribute Act

612

The man who wants to be chairman of Rangers International, Dave King, said over the weekend:

“In particular I see a present need to utilise the time we have over the next few seasons to be prepared, both financially and on the pitch, to compete with our Glasgow neighbours when we get back (sic) to the top League.”

Therein lies the problem.  Oldco Rangers under David Murray were driven, “10-in-a-row and two European Cups” was the target Terry Butcher attributed to his former employer.  They lived in someone else’s shadow but needed to think of themselves as superior.  As a consequence, they lost everything.

Now the same crew at it again.  “Compete with our Glasgow neighbours”.  Why not just live within your means?  Be as good as you can be, run your affairs in an ethical manner, whether you win, lose or draw?  Spend the early years of Newco trying to compete with Celtic and the only thing you’ll achieve is a pervading sense of failure.

The Battle for the Blazer, AKA the bid by King to persuade the SFA that despite the enormous evidence to the contrary, he is Fit and Proper to be a director of a Scottish football team is surely pointless.  Rangers International don’t need King as a director, all they need is his money, or anyone’s money.  King doesn’t need to be a director to exact effective control over the club, all he needs to do is appoint proxies. The SFA must issue the JP McEnroe retort, “You cannot be serious?”

My apologies if King’s target is Partick Thistle.

Reading Paul67s article I was immediately struck by the following thought….surely to goodness no, a genuine billionaire riding in to their rescue whilst we watch powerless from the sidelines, as Campbell Ogilvie AND Peter Lawell endorse this guy waltzing in taking over and splashing the cash all over again, could it really happen, please Paul tell us its all just a bad dream….

you’ve summed ’em up in a couple of sentences and put into words what I couldn’t quite get right in me head.

  9. I’m not kidding, I’d put money on them making a big signing when they get promoted. Then the refs will kick in with their honest mistakes and we’ll be here arguing as usual about how our board are short changing us.

    Re Artur’s caution.

It was widely thought at the time that it was for crossing himself.

Which makes the comment from Salmond all the more puzzling. Bearing in mind legislation which he has since introduced.

“The first announcement, on Friday, by the Crown Office, that the Polish footballer would be cautioned attracted widespread condemnation. Catholic leaders said that it gave the impression that in Scotland it was an offence to make a religious gesture in public. Alex Salmond, the Scottish National Party leader, accused prosecutors of “taking leave of their senses” , and wrote to the Lord Advocate, Colin Boyd QC, claiming that the Crown Office had “bungled” the affair.”

The ” bungling ” by Crown Office led to the wide sprees misunderstanding the blessing oneself was some form of Breach of the Peace

The police made a complete hash of the whole matter…to think they were concentrating on ABs actions when thousands were abusing him in a racially / sectarian fashion …..only in Scotland

If Peter Sutcliffe had lots of cash and wanted to become involved with Sevco the press in Scotland would describe his trial and sentencing as the Yorkshire Ripper thus; “After two weeks of discussion he reached an agreement with the court to settle their outstanding matters.”

  20. having a lazy Sunday for a change. Loving the current media blitz to get this guy King installled as a Blue Knight astride a white charger , very interesting. The facts and evidence point to the contrary. He will look after himself, his legitimate cash position is unknown, his liquidity is never questioned ……..ring any bells?

His place alongside the Piranha brothers is entirely fitting with the current set up down in the Blue Room. the genuine Rangers fans I know are struck dumb with shame or just hoping that they are not getting stitched up again.

You can be sure that Mr King will be feted in .very media outlet , I saw his South African prosecutions described as “difficulties” last week………beggars belief. Once again I remember the treatment they handed out to Fergus all those years ago.

Another thing you can be sure of, the Dallas production line of Stepford Refs are now in place to ensure a compliant back drop to the return of the “chosen race” to the top tier of Scottish football. The SFA fit and proper legislation is tailor made to accomodate shysters, and why not? they have always looked after their own and always got away with it.

I only hope we will be long gone before they return.

  21. The Comfortable Collective on

If Fred West had wanted to become involved in Rangers they would have summed up his past thus “After a succesful career on the building industry, Fred diversified into other activities which would help seal his reputation for generations to come”

  22. tcc – it’s beyond a joke now, a real pity we don’t have professional journalists in Scotland to challenge and find out what’s really going on.
