Spanish authorities confirmed this morning that La Liga will be played behind closed doors for the next two weeks, leaving only Germany and England from Europe’s big five leagues permitting spectators. Yesterday the Italian government banned all domestic sporting fixtures until 3 April, meaning Serie A games will not take place, even behind closed doors.
Authorities in Germany and the UK will now come under pressure, especially as leagues in Germany and England attract he highest attendances in the world. The next move is likely to be in Germany, where the confirmed case number is similar to that in Spain and France.
Case numbers in the UK are a quarter those in Germany, France and Spain, there are still only 321 cases here, but if we follow a similar pattern, that figure will be over 1,000 by the weekend, when we can expect non-essential gatherings to be prohibited. A ban is in the post.
The Cheltenham Festival runs from today until Friday. The cynic in you might suggest a ban on sporting events will take place after the last of the Prosecco is supped in Gloucestershire. I hope we do not see the now-annual player photos from the Festival…

There is no widespread panic about the flu because there is a vaccine which everyone and especially vulnerable people are encouraged to receive once a year,

Is that right about Leverkusen not training on the Ibrox swap tonight ?
Yorkbhoy,
From previous blog
I read the retraction and criticisms but none of them refute the Finding about the HIV connection just condemnation that it was published, some ever declared it was flawed without qualifying why or how it is flawed.
The thing is, first and second year biochemists regularly carry out identification of DNA & RNA component identification so the HIV connection is most likely accurate.
The rush to condemnation and ridicule has all the hall marks of conserved effort by interested parties who could end up having to explain themselves before they’ve organised the plausible deniability they are working on.
If life has teaches me anything is that we’ve not been suspicious enough and it’s usually down to laziness and lack of research when people cry if I’d only nee more they wouldn’t have duped me.
swap = swamp
Turckeybhoy,
If that’s what you believe then good luck to you.
I’m sure you’ll make your own decisions accordingly.
early Sevco team news for Sunday….Beaton and Ross (red card red card) announced..
Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that the spread of the deadly coronavirus epidemic has been “basically curbed” at its epicentre in Hubei province and its capital Wuhan.
Mr Xi said “initial success has been made in stabilising the situation and turning the tide in Hubei and Wuhan,” the official Xinhua news agency reported after the Chinese leader paid his first visit to the city since the crisis erupted in January.
Mr Xi’s unannounced visit comes as unprecedented quarantine measures that have sealed off Wuhan and the rest of central Hubei province since late January appear to have paid off, with new infections dropping dramatically in recent weeks.
Same goes to TLT and any other sceptics, I genuinely hope you are correct and your decision if wrong don’t come back to bite you.
my nephew Patrick is testing his colleagues in the Para medics in Köln ….swab up nose swab in tube …tube in bag ..sealed then off to testing lab….are Para medics and nhs staff being tested ?

I think it’s very likely that our games will be affected due to the virus, in some way. However, on the BBC news this morning, the deputy chief medical officer for England said that outdoor gatherings are relatively safe and that the virus wouldn’t last outside.
Embramike- UEFA have stopped Leverkusen from training at Poundland, the day before the game, which is standard practice, the swamp needs to be drained…..
Billy Stark has named 6 Sevco boys in his Scotland under 19s squad
None from Celtic
Cause for concern or just an anomaly?
Borna Barisic,age 27,12 caps for Croatia,(12 caps at 27 )?.TransferMarket value,3 million Euros,as of March 2020.
Deluded Hun value, upwards of £17 million.
Well,he is a good Catholic boy.

=====
Billy was quoted a few years ago as saying if Xavi and Iniesta were coming through the ranks in Scotland they wouldn’t make it professionally thanks to the rough and tumble physical nature of our game at every level.
So if his view still holds definitely cause for concern…. for the huns :)

cheltneham festival.
live on tv.
hundreds queing in tight lines outside the course.
money and race cards changing hands.
drink being taken, people cheek to jowel at the bars.
large percentage of over 50’s men on show.
what cou;d possibly be the outcome ?
CoVid 19 will be multiplied across the country and ireland by the weekend.
gross stupidity.
I dont do Facebook / Twitter but if you are interested in the experience /opinion of an Italian Intensive Care Unit Doctor – check out -Dr Danielle Macchini – English translation by Dr Silvia Stringhini
as an aside, i passed the edwardian toilet block yesterday.
that big steel beam holding up the club deck (where is my debenture certificate says billy) it does not look in best condition at the corner of the copland road.
next, i noticed the german tv crews, regional tv from westfalia, where there is a big outbreak of COVID19, but they travel across europe anyways and come to scotland.
madness.

Would you describe people being packed into the stands, concourses, stairways and toilets at CP as being ‘outdoor gatherings’ ‘?
How long does the virus last ‘outside’?
Does it last longer than a football match?

Vaccine,or not the figures are there.Easily checked.Flu virus kills millions in America, every year.Dont know the worldwide figures but they will be staggering.I am not downplaying Covid, but just look at the newscasters reporting on it.Rehearsing for a future career as undertakers.Last night,we had 23 cases in Scotland, none serious.Should we be closing down the country.Anyway,my last word on this.
The last of the Prosecco supped at Cheltenham may be the last Prosecco supped anywhere outside Italy for a while as the village of Prosecco is just north of Trieste and is in “lockdown”, whatever that means.
Prosecco is a one street village which does not have a Prosecco bar in it (at least not when I tried to take my wife there for a drink about 3 years ago).

Who does the government listen to? No offence to any doctors on the blog but they aren’t exactly well known for being shy about coming forward with an opinion on health matters. Not that it isn’t well-meaning or well-informed unlike a lot of the nonsense you’ll see quoted form the internet :)
They have to make a decision and it needs to be on the advice of the experts employed to help them.
Healthcare professionals will always look at the issue in their own way, they don’t have the other pressures that a government have to contend with.

Not the impression I get from watching/reading Whitty.
At the AGM …Peter Lawwell was asked if he had a reply from the SFA re is letter regarding John Beatons performance and failure to punish Morales for three red card offences….his answer yes… and what was their reply …”it’s private” and he was not going to tell us…
Well after today’s news about Sunday’s match officials I think we all know the answer he got….Eff off… we run Scottish football…get to the back of the bus where you belong
For Celtic board to accept Beaton and Ross to officiate at Sunday’s game without protest is a disgrace and dereliction of their duty of care to their employees (players) and an insult to our support ….
Earn your corn Lawwell …and stand up for Celtic and our support ….

Turkeybhoy,
The stats on American deaths for the flu were posted as 20000 last year, where do you get millions from ?
I asked how many from pneumonia and was advised 50000 when you think pneumonia up till now was not contagious that’s the big difference.
What we need following Sunday:
lose – 15 points from 7 games
draw – 12 points from 7 games
win – 9 points from 7 games
A double loss to sevco means 15 points required from 6 games
Double victory – we need 3 points from 6 games
HRVATSKI JIM on 10TH MARCH 2020 2:00 PM
Great stats.
Assuming Rangers win all their remaining games , I presume.
” A double loss to sevco means 15 points required from 6 games ”
Don`t fancy that scenario.

I am specifically referring to your point about mass panic.
And vaccination is the obvious answer as to why there is no mass panic about the seasonal flu.
It can be prevented. If millions of idiots refuse vaccination don’t expect everyone else to panic on their behalf.

Very big assumption that they win all their other games.
And that any of these games will go ahead tbh
